Sox have/had interest in Salvador Perez

Man.......lots of hate for Salvi.....

He would be the best catcher we have had here in a long time, someone who can help the young pitchers, and a FUCKING leader.   Something this bunch lacks.

It sounds like another full rebuild, which I’m not against since this one failed. Too bad Hahn is involved, but screw it, trade everyone and build from the ground up again. Grifol would probably be a point A to B guy, and Salvy would be a bridge to the Angels kid and give some veteran leadership. So yeah, I’ve given up.

Im sorry but this team does not need to trade for a 33 year old catcher who cant catch anymore and is owed $20 million a year for the next two seasons.

Hes barely better than Grandal right now.

The guy who rates out with a WORSE arm than Grandal, and currently at -5.3 Defensive Runs Prevented? (Grandal is -2.2 btw). Yeah, pretty sure we don't need a catcher that is somehow even WORSE than the current catcher....especially with all of the young arms we're about to be using.

But hey he’s a leader and knows Grifol so you know this will happen and be a massive expensive failure

Love analytics/metrics but sometimes they make no sense.

Watch majority of the games that Salvi catches and Grandal catches.......then tell me who is better.

Exactly. They're banking on fans thinking that. "He knows Grifol and he's a leader and he used to be great 10 years ago." Forget the fact that he pitches for the Royals, that Grifol is a failure as a manager because he never should've been one or that he's somehow as mediocre, if not more, than the current catcher we have.

Someone take Hahn's phone

Neither is better, they're both old bad catchers on two shitty teams. Please, just no.

I think you understate the importance of something like this. Obviously it depends what you'd have to give up for him, but someone needs to pair at C with Lee next season and is probably the exact sort of locker room presence the team lacks. It is also beneficial that he has a prior relationship with the manager. What is the impact of this sort of thing on baseball outcomes? Who knows, but I don't think you can write it off either.

The only one I would trade for Perez is Moncada and his entire salary plus the Royals have to eat half of Perez's salary.  Too bad Royals aren't stupid though.

Edit:  On second thought, the Royals have to also take Grandal and his entire salary too.

Meh I’ll pass. You will be blocking Lee from getting the majority of the reps. Besides, more than likely the next time they are competitive grifol will be long gone so I don’t care what kind of relationship he has with the manager

yeah, not gonna lie I also don't buy some of the advanced defensive metrics on catchers. You'd think if Perez was so bad at throwing runners out he'd see more attempts against him. There are enough pitches and innings he's caught where you'd expect that stuff to show out.

But mainly those services hate Perez now because of his framing, and I honestly don't care anymore. Would rather have a guy that can handle a pitching staff than masturbate over a skill that keeps being more and more random each year - and that's because the difference between a top and bottom catcher in framing is much better than it used to be.
