Duke Ellis Called Up

So they should "embrace the fact they suck" and not do anything with the roster? What? That makes absolutely no sense. What are you saying? 😂

#1, I did just explain.

#2, this is more than just this one set of roster moves.

I know you tried to explain it and it still makes zero sense. "We're historically bad. Let's just embrace it and keep playing the same guys." Yeah, solid strategy there Cotton.

This man is setting records for roster moves.  He has lurched between 30 something year old guys who should be retired, and signing random never has beens from off of the streets.  Then he calls up a guy who is clearly not ready for the big time, or calls a guy up for 1 AB only to send them down again and recall them again later.

Quit the pretense of us having a chance, play the next guys in line.  Duke Ellis is not the next guy in line.  Give the kids a real chance and not the freaking Martin Maldonado's and Brad Kellers of the world.

If you can't make sense of that, cool.

We should be setting records for roster moves. We're historically bad.

What kid's is Maldonado blocking? You want to call Quero up way before he's ready and add to those record setting roster moves? Pick a lane.

The 30 something has been's and never were's are just here to field a team. It's not like anybody thought the team would be competitive.

Panicking is the 2023 Angels. What you're saying just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Currently not blocking anyone but they can just sign or claim literally anyone available and it would be better.

So they should add to the roster moves - pretty much what Southsider is saying we shouldn't do?

Where does one go to report an exaggeration?

Who cares if he's setting a record for roster moves? Is that something we're supposed to be deeply ashamed of? I really only have a problem with 2 moves, so far. Signing Maldonado and Clevinger. We all seem to forget they lost their 3 main offensive players, and had 2 other starters crash and burn. The GM should be shuffling in anybody who can fog a mirror to get some runs.

And actually, Duke Ellis is kind of the next in line. There's DeLoach, then right after him, there's the group of Ellis, Veras, Burke and Tatum. Maybe they don't want DeLoach to sit. Colas is up, and will probably get real innings. Fletcher got a good long look to start the season. Julks played his way into the lineup.

Yeah, if we traded Colson Montgomery for Frankie Montas, that would be a panic. This is just fielding a lineup, getting the kids who are getting shelled out of there is prudent.

Maybe not at the same time, but everyone knew all three would be on the IL at some point during the season.

No one forgot.  In fact some of us have been arguing a smart GM would have planned for it.  Oops.

I don't know why this matters. Knowing players can get injured doesn't mean you don't have to replace them when they do.

Most likely this guy will sit on his ass. I think it's stupid to call up guys if they aren't going to play.

Then stick with them and protect the kids.  It is literally the lurching back and forth between any and all plans that is the panic.  One day Oscar Colas isn't ready, but the next day Duke Ellis and Ramos are.  One day Rafael Ortega is important enough to release somebody for, two weeks later he is gone.  Same with Brad Keller.  If those kinds of guys are here as roster protection, cool, use them that way.  If they aren't get rid of them.  Getz can't handle this job.

Literally the one thing he has been good at is running.  He is going to take up a roster space for that at the major league level.

If a couple of them didn't go down, they probably don't sign Pham who has made up for what was lost for some of it. It wasn't like these injured dopes were going to get you 5 more wins, and even if they did, that would be 20-40, which is still unacceptable.

The Sox best 2 signings in recent years were Pham and Cueto, all because that was what was left.

How did he not "plan" for it? He had his replacement DH sitting on the bench, and his replacement CF playing RF. Sosa and Shewmake didn't work out at 3B. It would be nice to have 3 top 20 prospects in the game sitting in AAA waiting for a shot. We don't.

This guy rocks and I was called a goof for suggesting he’d be up this season. He’s a better hitter than .600 ops at AA but he’s also not a good hitter. Billy Hamilton is the comp. I bet he only appears to pinch run, get 10 or so ABs, then Robert will take his place.

Why stick with the guys who aren't working out? They stuck with Benintendi and Vaughn way too long. Every team deals with 40-man issues. Some of the guys we've complained about are still bouncing around the league. Bailey Horn. Burdick. Smith-Njigba.

What is "roster protection"?

They're saying Robert is getting the call up today.

Good. We're horrible at hitting with runners in scoring position. Maybe have him steal home once a game.
