If the Blue Jays are trading for space without having a commitment from him, I think that's nuts. There's nobody to spend $2 million on if he chooses the Dodgers.

Yeah that would suck for them but maybe someone later in the year can emerge and sign sooner than waiting until Jan 15th. Guess the only downside in doing this is paying Myles Straw.

You say that, but wait until they find a young Czech* with electric stuff.

"Straw is owed $6.4 million this year and $7.4 next year, with team options for 2027 and 28 with a buy out of $1.75 million for the first and 500,000 for the second. That’s a lot of money for a guy who played 7 game in the majors last year. He hit .240/.321/.330 for Columbus last year. He won a Gold Glove in 2022.

The Guardians are sending $3.75 million along with Straw.

Straw’s salary goes against our CBT for the next two years.

The deal seems to suggest the Jays think they are getting Roki Sasaki."

Doesn't say $3.75 million in intl signing pool money though...just cash subsidy against Straw.

Two teams recently pulled off small $250k transaction for Parsons.

The Padres are no longer in the running to sign Sasaki, according to a report by veteran reporter Francys Romero. That comes just days after a report that Sasaki was deciding between the Dodgers, Padres and Blue Jays.

Romero added that the Padres are reportedly close to agreements with other top international prospects, which would take up the bonus pool money they would have needed to sign Sasaki.

Can someone explain to me why anyone would ever choose to sign with the Blue Jays over the Dodgers?

Pitching factory in Toronto.

They keep players healthier by and large.

Favor splitter usage there...his favorite pitch.

Asian community/intl city.  Direct flights to Japan.

Still play against Yankees Os Red Sox etc.

Less media attention by far compared to LAD.

Insulated from wildfires and earthquakes...father and grandparents died in a natural disaster in Japan.  Also Insulated from border with Mexico in terms of safety.

Well for starters Toronto is a marvelous international city with a thriving Asian and Japanese community which is welcoming to immigrants.

Over Gausman Berrios Bassitt etc.

Eventually...

But Toronto is still going to be NOT winning after 2025 if they can't hold on to Guerrero and Bichette...74-88 last year.

I think if Roki wants to be the guy, those are a lot smaller obstacles to overcome than Ohtani, Yamamoto, Mookie and Freeman.

Just a hunch.

Guess it was $2 million that the Guardians sent in intl signing pool money to TOR.

Go Dodgers...might as well destroy baseball for the next decade so they finally have to fix the sport before it's too late.

Burnes might want to rethink his signing with the DBacks because it will be useless.

Go to hell, Sasaki. He's a real aye hole for stretching this out when it was obvious where he was going to sign from the beginning.

Trade Cease and build for 2026, or Keep him and have a shot at the playoffs. Then lose him and King for nothing. This is not a happy choice.

True or Not, let the “team-building” for 2025 begin. Maldonado’s a good start. Not much bat but good behind the plate.

Fire Preller for wasting his time learning Japanese and not doing f***-all this entire off season.  Great job!

LoL.

The NL West is now officially dead....

OR

Trying to imagine if the White Sox were in the AL East, it would be sayonara Chicago, hello Nashville.

Toronto is such an amazing city, I recommend anyone who hasn't been to check it out. Their public transportation for tourists is excellent compared to the s%*# show in Chicago

It's where Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson live. It has to be cool.

Blue Jays looking to pair Alonso and  Guerrero...?

"The Toronto connection is interesting, considering the Blue Jays already have first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a pending free agent, on their roster. With the two sides reportedly far apart in their contract extension negotiations, Guerrero has been mentioned as a potential trade candidate. However, according to Rosenthal, the club’s intention is not to sign Alonso and then trade Guerrero. Rather, the Jays are hoping to add Alonso to the fold to improve their playoff chances in Guerrero’s final year under club control."

Good luck Elias and TB Rays.  You're going to need it.
