Add the fact he got hurt playing Winter Ball....
caulfield12
9:49am: It’s a one-year major league deal that comes with a $3MM guarantee, reports Bobby Nightengale of the Minnesota Star-Tribune. Minnesota has a full 40-man roster and will need to make a corresponding move when the signing is finalized. 8:07am: The Twins have agreed to a deal with free agent left-hander Danny Coulombe, reports Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The ALIGND Sports client’s contract is pending the completion of a physical. It’ll be the veteran reliever’s second stint in Minnesota. Twins now all-in this season...bringing Coulombe back home from Baltimore.
caulfield12
"That group also includes Brock Stewart, Michael Tonkin, and Ronny Henriquez. For those of you keeping score at home, that’s four hurlers who cannot be sent down. They make it, or they’re probably cut. There’s also Rule 5 pick Eiberson Castellano. If the Twins want to retain his services, he has to stay on the big-league roster or injured list all year (and even if he spends time on the IL, he needs to be on the active roster for at least 90 days)." https://twinsdaily.com/news-rumors/minnesota-twins/the-twins-bullpen-is-already-full-how-does-danny-coulombe-fit-r17707/ Twins will likely DFA Henriquez and send Castellano back... CaliSoxFanViaSWside
10 hours ago, caulfield12 said: The argument last year is that nobody was giving out the type of Top 50 trade packages in position prospects...certainly at the deadline. Other than LAD and Boston, who has/had the requisite 2 studs on the position player side that trade would have entailed...with a lighter third piece? It doesn't work with MN because they still would have held onto Jenkins since the financial consequences of the Robert deal are/were harder for them to digest. E.Rodriguez and Keachsall weren't quite there yet as stud prospects. You'd have to look at the Top 100 a year ago...but hindsight is always 20/20. Mariners wouldn't have needed him for CF. Reds? Rays too cash-strapped...although they gave Kim their biggest deal weeks ago. Campbell didn't exist a year ago for Boston...Anthony and Mayer? Of course they didn't know the seasons Duran and Raffaela would have at that point. Cubs/Sox deals always complicated...and a year ago they had Bellinger coming off an MVP votes season. I'm not going to try to analyze the trade market that off season. You put a 5 tool guy who just had a huge year on the market who plays CF and you'll get interest if you don't ask for the moon . Getz put it out there he did want the moon.Dont think that was wise. You let the market come to you. You don't drive off customers by telling them how expensive your product is, especially with his injury history which you have to be reasonable about if you know it's likely he's at peak value. You start fielding offers , you compare them, you play them against each other .But you always know you have to make the deal. He is just too injury prone not to. Reinsdorf would've been thrilled .You're getting a possible $55 million off the books and buyers like the fact that the last $40M are option years so you were only paying $15M for 2024. No idea what this means .It's so cloak and dagger. Am I supposed to know what you're talking about ? I think you're saying I'm making excuses for Getz but I'm stumped on what events are happening this week that's proven anything or the mysterious point you think you're making. Cease is on the market again. He hasn't been traded. Why don't you assess the trade market for his services right now and tell me exactly what the Padres should get for him just so I know you can do it not only just after the fact .

Yes, I think there is a notable trade this week where the GM sold a guy without a fair return, and that was more a commentary on the GM than on the player. The market right now for Cease is probably about what the White Sox got for him, because he has only 1 year of control left rather than 2 playoff runs worth of control left.
2Deep
This is what the White sox organization has done to us. We are left bickering/arguing amongst ourselves about the value/return for star players we are trading away. "That isn’t the case for Julian Merryweather or Keegan Thompson. They’d each need to be in the majors or be designated for assignment. Thompson’s swing-and-miss ability probably gives him a leg up." White Sox could always improve pen...one of those guys will be DFAed. Merryweather is mlbtraderumors writer's guess.
caulfield12
"The Cubs announced that they’ve designated lefty reliever Rob Zastryzny for assignment. Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reported the move just before the official announcement. That’s the corresponding move for the Ryan Brasier trade, which is official." Guess those other bullpen names were for Bregman signing ... JR won't approve acquiring him because too many complicated letters on the jersey back.
