Less politically untenable now than a Cuban academy at least...Venezuela equally dicey despite all the signings in recent years.

caulfield12
The Mets made what they perceived as a last-ditch effort to sign Pete Alonso by offering him a three-year contract in the $68 million-$70 million range, and when that was rejected, began their pivot away from their slugging first baseman, The Post has learned. The first step was to add another bat by re-signing Jesse Winker for one year at $7.5 million. They now will try to bolster their pen by playing at the top of the relief market, and the No. 1 asset available is lefty Tanner Scott. https://nypost.com/2025/01/16/sports/what-the-mets-were-offering-pete-alonso-before-talks-broke-down/ Edited January 17 by caulfield12

WestEddy
More people to cut.... Sources: Cuban-American IF/OF Joe Pérez, a once heralded Astros prospect, is looking to return to the MLB system as a pitcher. He is expected to sign with the White Sox soon. Perez (25) was originally taken by Houston in the second round of the 2017 draft. pic.twitter.com/fke2Hy8y9s — Javier Gonzalez (@Astros_Coverage) January 17, 2025

caulfield12
Why the hell isn't he Jose Perez? Sounds too blue collar/lunch bucket. Bring back Matty Davidson to pitch while we're at it. https://www.thebaseballcube.com/content/player/209833/ He can play five positions, sort of. 25 year old originally a second round pick, $1.6 million signing bonus. Banny will fix him!!! Cooper will come out of retirement and fix him...certainly he will work with Sergio Santos on his transition. https://www.thebaseballcube.com/content/player/209833/ Edited January 17 by caulfield12

caulfield12
"To quote the great Rocky Balboa “life aint all sunshines and rainbows”. This quote is true on many levels and Astros prospect Joe Perez has experienced this first hand. Going into the 2017 draft Joe Perez was seen as one of the best high school prospects available. Big power from the right hand side of the plate but also a big arm that could pitch. Unfortunately, it was known during the draft process that he would need Tommy John surgery. The Astros ended up selecting Perez with the #53 overall pick and announced him as a third baseman, not a pitcher. Shortly after the draft, Perez had surgery." https://astrosfuture.com/2021/05/former-2nd-round-pick-joe-perez-off-to-a-hot-start-in-2021/#:~:text=The Astros ended up selecting Perez with the,get on the field in the Astros organization.
