A-rod in NY, Shaq in LA, MJ in Chicago

Well, typically the larger markets can afford the best players, hence why they end up there. Plus, sports leagues understand that it is good for the sport if its biggest names are in the biggest cities.

With that being said though, if a team like the Brewers were winning and had the ability to have a $100 million payroll, A-Rod might be there instead. So, market size only makes a differance when there isnt much small market compitation.

which is why we need a salary cap in baseball. put an end to greedy players and dumbass owners who pay these idiotic prices. :bang

Why? They're the ones paying them. Nobody is forcing any owner to pay a ridiculous salary. I can see the argument for a salary floor so that dicks like the Seligs can f*** over a team and town like they did in Milwaukee.

that's why i called them DUMBASS owners because they've raised the salaries so high. and a cap (on both high and low ends) helps to prevent not only the small market teams and circumstances like milwaukee is in but also from keeping large market teams from owning the sport like the 3 of the 4 teams in the League Championship Series last year.

Explain to me how the Cubs not having had back-to-back winning seasons in 30+ years is "owning" the sport. Hell, I'll go as far as saying the Cubs are an example of a team rebuilding the correct way. Their rotation of Prior, Wood, Zambrano, Clement, and Cruz(or Maddux)will have 3(or if Maddux signs, possibly 4 if you include him, though I don't because he's spent the last 11 years in a Braves uniform), and they got Clement for practically nothing in a trade. The bullpen consists of players brought in via signings, trades, and those brought up from the minor league system. And the lineup hasn't been brought in entirely from FA while spending $100 million on it....Sosa was brought in via trade, Patterson is home-grown, Derrek Lee was brought in via trade, Grudz/Walker were both brought in in good moves, Gonzalez was brought in via trade, Ramirez via trade, Barret and Bako via trade....in fact, I would have to say their only major signing in their lineup is Moises Alou. Their bench has been mainly small signings, so nothing to complain about there.

Tell me these two things again...

1) How have the Cubs owned the sport?

2) How have the Cubs done it like the Yankees and Red Sox?

ur right in everythign u said. i was thinking of large market teams as a whole. being a large market team has helped them in keeping those home grown talents instead of losing them as do small market teams. it also helps them keep those players they get via smaller trades such as sammy that turn out to be good players. but there is no way in hell i put them on the same level as the yanks, bosox, etc. although i realize now that that is the way it appeared from my previous post. it all comes down to $$$$ and who has most of it.
