Who should the Sox get to replace Myers?

Mark Lowe and LaTroy Hawkins are both available. I can't imagine either would cost more than 2-3 million on a one year deal.

Sox dont need a big name guy, just a 50 IP 6/7th inning guy to bridge the game to Thornton/Jones/Crain/Reed

I wish the Sox would've signed Soria.

That said, I might take a shot at trading for Hanrahan from the Pirates.

I dont see the money being spent or even considered seriously but.. Soriano? Certainly wouldnt be the worst move in the world.

I think the Cubs are at the point where they aren't giving him away for nothing. They'd happily pay a portion if they got something like Viciedo back, but they want talent back to do it.

He just signed with Boston last week I believe.

And regarding Soriano being rep. by Boras, two things, both of which may not matter but I'll bring it up anyway

#1- there's the possibility that he wont get as much as he could have had (at least for this season) had he not opted out of his contract with NY, which can tend to sour a player on their current management

#2- are there any known issues between Hahn & Boras that would put a definitive no on this? Would Kenny be okay with Hahn dealing with a Boras client? Or is it simply an organizational philosophy that goes from Jerry on down, no Boras client signings under any circumstances? I know that it HAS been the case the last decade, however with Kenny moving up (in title), im curious to know what if any effect that has on dealings with guys like Boras

Iirc the issues with boras go all the way to Reinsdorf

He turned down the qualifying offer, so not only would you have to pay him 8 figures, you would forfeit a draft pick as well. He turned down a ridiculously large option in NY. I think Boras might have finally overplayed his hand.

Yeah, I think that Reinsdorf has the most issues with him. We were unable to sign some high-end draft picks, in particular Bobby Seay, due to Boras. After that, we pretty much ignored all high-end Boras clients in the draft.

Then you have some big free agent fiascos like Ordonez and A-Rod that pissed off both KW & Reinsdorf. I think a lot of people forget how serious we were in the A-Rod derby. IIRC we had the second highest offer on the table and Reinsdorf wanted to have a sit-down with A-Rod to try selling him on the idea of playing in a big market like Chicago, but Boras refused and A-Rod took the Rangers' much higher offer.

The only good news is that Hahn seems more willing to work with Boras. In fact, I believe he's been our go-to-guy with all Boras dealings, such as the Andruw Jones signing a few years back. Hopefully this relationship will continue to improve and the Sox will consider drafting some Boras clients in the future, because we've passed on way too much talent in the last few years.

Barring any trades, I don't see the urgency to spend any additional money on the bullpen:

Closer: Addison Reed

Late inning setup: Matt Thornton, Nate Jones and Jessie Crain

Lefty specialist: Donny Veal

That leaves 2 spots - Hector Santiago, should they decide to keep him in the bullpen, which may be unlikely, if he doesn't earn a starting job, could be one of these two spots, but, almost guaranteed, that one of these spots will be for a long-relief option so that could be a battle, if not Santiago, then for Axelrod and few others.

If they end up being short one guy, and are in contention, they can probably find another middle reliever without giving up the farm.
