So yesterday I am watching the 5pm local news on channel 5. The sports segment comes on. They show the US women's soccer team losing 3-0. Have a segment with Kofi's return to Champaign, they mention John Queneville is being lost by the Hawks in the expansion draft.  No mention of the first place baseball team that happened to have a home game that night.

I love that a local station can't even spell the names of the players on its station correctly.

AKA The White Sox Flagship Radio Station, though perhaps they let go of their social media editor to fund Len and DJ's travel.

Jerry still holding out sending Steve and Jason to that all inclusive trip to Milwaukee, a trip thousands of Sox fans can afford each of the next three days.

It makes no difference to me if the broadcasters travel or call the game using monitors. I enjoy the product, but if I’m listening to Benetti and Stone, I can see the game. They add to it (esp. Stone for me), but I can also watch with the sound down and have virtually the same experience.

I muted Sox broadcasts during the Hawk years, and I'm fine watching at a bar with no volume, so can at least understand this viewpoint. But they are compromised as to what they can convey to the viewer, be it something not captured by the video feeds they do have, and also the various player and coach discussions and stories they can relay after spending time with the team both at home and on the road. They are also limited to road feeds under this format, Sox broadcasts (and Cubs) were well produced on WGN over the years, so people are losing out on their unique broadcast.

I prefer radio broadcasts, which I listen to either doing other things at home or taking long walks. I watch the condensed games afterward, works out well, and outside of watching at a bar or elsewhere, there are no more OTA broadcasts. Half the game threads here are just griping about the strike zone / catcher framing / umpire calls / the box. Hope viewers get more out of baseball than this very narrow perspective out of a broadcast, though I do believe Sox fans in particular have been conditioned over the decades by Hawk's endless bitching about the umpires.

38 years later, this game still made me nervous. I watched the whole game in 15-20 minute chunks. Such a different game. Pitchers not selling out on every pitch. No strike zone graphic or speed gun. No pitch framing.

Very nice. I like the older broadcasts, believe the broadcasters complimented the game well. Much more enjoyable game for the fans back then, good defense and pitching. Most of the players were normal human size.

I was tired and fell asleep during the 5th inning after watching a couple of innings returning after home from school. The Sox had already won by the time I woke up, and no VCR/Beta back then in our home. Watched all of Game 2, than attended 3 & 4 SRO, bought after spending the night with thousands of fans in the Comiskey Park parking lot.

Cheers!

Not surprised there is no adherence to a professional code of conduct / ethics at the four letter network / disney,

If he had done this with a stock tip, he'd be in jail and have forfeiting his winnings.  How is this different?

If you read the attached article, most media outlets do not enforce a code of ethics when it comes to gambling, even bets on teams the media employees cover.

The SEC enforces rules on investing, there is no equivalent for sports gambling beyond statutes covering the fixing of the results of games.

MLB has partnered with gambling companies, the Ricketts are opening a sports book, the RSNs are branded by a casino company (Bally's), media companies are morphing into gambling info services.

I could see Benetti doing Sox games but doing more and more national and fewer and fewer of the Sox

I do think the Sox job is Jason’s dream job, but if he wants more exposure, now would probably be the time to do it. I would think in a few years he will get sick of the extra traveling and preparation. Now he is just living the dream with the Sox and all his other assignments, but I’m guessing in 5 or 10 years, calling Sox games will be plenty for him.

I hope Benetti gets whatever opportunities he is hoping for...but selfishly I hope he is calling White Sox games for a long long time!  He is just great!  I loved Hawk as well...I feel fortunate to have experienced Hawk in his hey-day (he and Paciorek were incredible together) as an announcer and now we get to listen to someone as good as Benetti!  Benetti deserves any opportunity he gets!

Looking back, it's surprising Bernstein never got cancelled. He's got a history of misogynistic comments (see his suspensions); his old shtick was bullying callers; B&B used to regularly have a caller on that was an alcoholic (Mike from Milwaukee) and one that was mentally handicapped (Bob from Niles) and they basically just laughed at them. I guess since he went super SJW early enough, he avoided it.

If he did the Cheryl Scott thing or talking about that anchors boobs thing within the last three years I think he would have been cancelled.  The last time he was suspended(for the boobs comment) I think that was a last chance for him and he probably only got it because iirc the ink wasn't even dry on his new contract
