An absolute unforced error.

Amin won't work as he has most of the same conflicts as Benetti, and I can't see JR/Brooks signing up for that again.
Monaco also does national stuff but not as high-profile. He is or has been the alternate/fill-in for NESN. But I bet a full-time gig would entice him. Don't think he'd be a long-term solution, though.

Naw, they're a little low on HR but still close to the middle of the pack, 20th overall. They have the fewest walks in MLB and it isn't even close, they have 10% fewer walks than any other team in the big leagues. This is their biggest weakness.
The Dodgers have nearly 2x their number of walks. They are less patient than the royals. Furthermore, this isn't just affecting the OBP, it's also telling you what their approach is at the plate, it is super aggressive and vulnerable, so starting pitchers are able to last longer in games against them and can get players out with strikeouts or weak contact early in at bats. They don't see teams' weakest middle relievers because they never work up the pitch count, they never beat starters because a manager tries to stretch a guy out into the 6th or 7th inning with a high pitch count.
Regardless, I think watching the Sox will continue to feel like having your bones drunk out of you.

This is not the All-MLB announcement; that happens in December.
"While what happens over the next several weeks will go a long way toward determining the 2023 All-MLB Team, it’s worth taking a look at where things stand right now. To that end, a group of MLB.com writers got together to vote on who they think will wind up being named All-MLB at season’s end."

lolno
The Packers thing is one of those things that would never happen today and only still exists as a miraculous vestige of an earlier era.

Was absolutely NOT expecting an Andy Lau name drop on SoxTalk today. Bra-fucking-vo.

The hirings of Benetti and Kasper suggest that the team realizes the importance of having a professional broadcaster in the booth after rolling with a "four former players" arrangement for a long time. I'd be pretty surprised if Beckham winds up being a Benetti replacement. Stone replacement is much more likely.

Obviously a 50% increase sounds dramatic.
Gameday Audio is probably one of the best deals available in sports media, particularly for those outside the US.
It has new features, including (video!) streaming of minor league games.
"MLB Audio is now At Bat -- and has a lot more than just audio
For 2023, MLB Audio has a new name: At Bat. Why the new name? Because this subscription also has a lot more to offer than just audio for this coming season.MLB At Bat subscribers can still listen to blackout-free audio broadcasts of all MLB regular-season games -- with their choice of home or away broadcasts and alternative Spanish audio, where available.
What’s new for this year is all the video now available as part of this subscription. At Bat subscribers will be able to watch live video of Minor League games in the First Pitch app and the MLB apps -- the same as MLB.TV subscribers. At Bat subscribers will also receive access to subscriber-only content like MLB Big Inning, our daily whiparound show with live look-ins and real-time highlights, as well as access to our library of subscriber-only video on demand originals and documentaries."

City Connects would be great, but "Southside" as one word kind of ruins them for me. It's two words!

This is gonna be cool as hell; will be great to see a US roster as stacked as what Japan normally puts out. Very excited.

Vin Scully never left the Dodgers and did national baseball and football for years.
Even Joe Buck worked for the Cardinals through '07 after starting to do national baseball and football in '94. He's going to stick around as long as he wants. JR shenanigans notwithstanding.
That said, I think part of bringing Kasper on was the anticipation that he'd have an opportunity to be on TV every once in a while, perhaps increasingly so, and that at just 51 he could still be around for a long time.

The decision to make it a straight doubleheader is quite strange because Sunday is Sunday Night Baseball. Shocked they didn't make it a split of noon and 6pm to protect the SNB start time.

Even those clowns at ESPN can see LaRussa is in over his head, and the last time they paid any attention to baseball Tony was managing the Cardinals.
How Jerry can still be so blinded by loyalty is beyond me.
I mean, Dave Schoenfield generally knows his stuff...

They have been playing 6:10 games in April for years at this point.
It's cold in april man.
This is....not true. Yes, there do tend to be more week DAY games, but aside from holidays/Saturdays or whatever 6:10 April games are definitely not the norm. Just pulled up the 2019 and (planned) 2020 schedule and there are zero weekday 6:10pm home games.

My path to understanding people and places is through the literature that is produced. I'll admit that I knew almost nothing about the Ukraine. I still know so very little but can feel the struggle and can appreciate those common emotions that connect us all. If you are interested I think this piece is a good jumping in point. It's something I'll be using in my classes this week.

Just fyi "*The* Ukraine" is the way the Russians would want you to refer to it, as a region that should belong to them. The sovereign nation is just Ukraine.

That wasn't really the point though. I've heard of Magic Johnson, and the Miracle on Ice, of course OJ, and other things that came before that. It was more noting that Seles probably doesn't rise to the level of other things mentioned because I've heard of them and not of her.
Maybe if you think America is the world?

I actually gave the WNBA a chance as you can clearly see from me starting a thread back in 2013, but to be brutally honest, women's basketball is really boring and not very good. It is not sexist to state the obvious... It doesn't help the sport having unlikable sports figures like Brittany Griner who is delusional enough to think she can beat Boogie Cousins on a one on one, lol.
I dunno man, everything I saw from this playoff run was really exciting and very good.

I see you made a WNBA thread in 2013.
You seem to bring it up quite often for somebody that doesn't care about it.
Wow, some really terrible takes in there. 2013 wasn't that long ago, folks.

Is High Fidelity worth watching?
One of my favorite movies, and a terrific Chicago movie (especially considering that the book was set in London).

The odds are now even to win today's game. Earlier today the Sox were slight favorites.
Uh, okay?

Losing Benetti is a blow here, too.
