    Yes he was

No, he wasn't. Dave Dombrowski is on record stating that they told the Sox they would not be willing to give up Devers when the Sox asked for Devers to be included in the trade and the Sox had to come back with different players. In an alternate universe where Devers is the headliner and not Moncada, sure, he was on the table. But in ours, in the trade we made, he wasn't.

If this team is going to pull a Phoenix and rise from the ashes it's going to have to start with getting top level scouts who can identify great talent. It seems every time the Sox are sellers they trade their best players and wind up with marginal talent who seem to flame out at the major league level.  Settling for Moncada over Devers is a prime example. Compare what the Sox have to the Yankees.  It seems everyone the Yankees draft or trade for ends up contributing in a large way - just the opposite of the Sox. When Cole went down I thought the Yanks were screwed, but then they come up with Gil, and Schmidt and Cortez.  Someone in NY knows talent.  We need people like that here.  Also, it wouldn't hurt to get coaches who could successfully develop that talent. So trade Robert, Crochet, Jimenez, Fedde, etc...but if what Getz gets back in return in just marginal layers, next year will be the same, as will the year after and the year after and the year after....and then at some point they will no longer have anything of value to trade.

They didn't settle for Moncada, Devers was never on the table.

Sold high would mean the return was good.  That’s questionable at best.  Jake Eder is 25 years old and currently has an ERA over 5 with a 1.60 WHIP in Double AA.

Sold high as in the amount of whining over trading Burger was NEVER justified (and that we sold at his peak value). The return would be even worse if we waited to trade him this year.

Sound off but saw Paris Olympics commercial....I'm probably in the minority but basketball is probably the least interesting aspect of that for me especially when they send an NBA "dream team". The reason The Miracle on Ice was special was because it was college guys.

You must not follow basketball, because the rest of the world caught up to the USA years ago. Not only that, the US doesn't send their absolute best players anymore (for various reasons), so it's not even close to the NBA Dream team era.

If he is truly an ace...he wins with us and enhances his future value.  This team is loads better than people are thinking.

As an eternal optimist (I still think Justin Fields is much better than he showed in Chicago), even I can't agree with that latter statement.

Was the effort searching deep in the recesses of memory to dig up this ancient thread really worth it to post some needless inconsequential bit of random information? Seriously, WTF?

You have to consider the source my friend. But no, it wasn't really needed.

They had the 4th worst record so dropping a spot isn't a big deal. In the end it won't matter much anyway.

Here's who MLB.com has ranked as the #5 selection just FYI:

    5. Jac Caglianone, 1B/LHP, Florida
Mayo: “Two-way player at Florida. He’s really interesting even if we are not sure what he is. Most people like him as a hitter. There are holes on each side. He has a ton of power, but tends to chase a little. Big, huge lefty. On the mound, he’s up in the upper 90s and misses a lot of bats. But, some command issues. We’ll see what he is. 6-foot-5, 290-pounds. He’s a lot of fun. I think it’s great for college baseball to have a legitimate two-way guy at that level, at the very least.”

    Yep...another first baseman LOL 😆

I meant more in the way of we suffered through this year to ONLY get 5th. And Cleveland hopped over us to get the 1st overall. Bit of a gut punch for me personally 😔

JFC…how the hell did Jerry allow this s%*# CBA to happen??

I don't think he cares. I'm pretty sure when and if it was brought it up to him, he likely hand wove it away to talk about profit margins on the concessions.
