  1. As South Side no-brainers go, keeping Maggs is right up there with ordering the kosher dog without onions at the stand behind home plate.

Who is he kidding, a kosher dog without onions is just plain silly. And another thing, the stand down the right field line is much better. Come on Jay, use your head.

  2. looking at all these names reminds me of all the nicknames Hawk has come up with over the years. There has to be no one better in the business for that than Hawk. Norberto "Paco" Martin, Greg Hibbard- the bulldog, Warren Newsome - the deacon, Mike Lavalliere - spanky, "Officer" Karkovice. One of my favories of all time wasn't an nickname for a player, but the name of Jason Bere's pitch, the "fosh". I still don't know what that pitch did.

  3. I just had an intermural game. lol. I didn't try out for the basketball team because if I made it, it would be to big of a commitment and I like to play ball for fun, not as my life for 6 months. March 1st is the beginning of HS tryouts, and as you might know are unfortunatly very political in Valpo, so I'm hopin for the best.  :bringit

I hear ya'. That sucks about HS athletics. Good luck nonetheless. How is Valpo in hoops this year? I know the top teams in the region seem to be LC, Munster, Wheeler and I think Merr. should be alright now that they've got Lavell Cook back.

  4. I think you're just scared of me. But anyways, I was just joking too. Some people do get too worked up. If I knew Steff, I would probably be mad too. But I don't know her. Why were you so mad at her in the first place? It seems to me that you are jealous. Just don't pick fights here. Go somewhere else like the mlb boards where you'd fit right in.

No, believe me, I'm not scared, but what I said was said in jest. Who do you guys play tomorrow? I went to the Lake Central / Munster game the night before Christmas Eve and that was a good game. I always like taking in a good HS basketball game, so if you're playing someone good, maybe I'll take a ride out there. I'm looking forward to the Lake Central / Roosevelt game. I think it's on February 23. That should be a good one.

  5. It works for me to believe that everything written here is done in good humor and not meant personally. It can change the whole attitude of the post when you read it thinking that it's done in a jokey, tongue in cheek sort of way.

Also, very important, is to always, "Remember to remember sarcasm".

    :bang

That's a great quote, I'll have to remember that one. How you read a post can make all the difference in the world.

  6. As Ace Ventura said when he saw Ray Finkle's room:

    "Obsess......much...."?

You seem to have a vivid recall when it comes to the postings of Steff.

Is it LESS of a cult if you dislike the leader?

I recall alot of things people post here. THe White Sox are one of my biggest interests, so when I read things about them, I tend to remember them, that's all.

    BAAAAAHHH !!!

  7. nice nice color

    nicer than mine

the bone is exqusite and I am embrassed with my soft beige.

And the font - the font, he must have searched forever for that.  It is is busimness and yet so eloquent and elegenmt.  I have lost this round.  Damn! someone will pay.  Need to switch to a discussion of cabernet before this card thing lingers on - and see my stationer tomorrow.

(are you doing the book or the movie?)

I was quoting the movie. I may have been a little off, it's been awhile since I've seen it. I've heard a lot of good things about the book and plan on reading it this winter. His little talking to himself sessions in the movie are classic.

  8. what's sarcastic?  You kicking people's ass?

Sometimes, I get the feeling people like yanking on people's chains.

    :chair

    But to each his own.

The sarcasm was the comment about me asking for a copy of the CBA steff was referring to. The kicking people's asses part was also sarcastic. I've said it before & I'll say it again, threats over a message board are absurd, they'll never come to fruition. And I will say it is rather funny to see how worked up people get.

  9. see that's why I didn't do it -

hell if this is fun to some go for it and I will stay away

however as I look at my Timex quartz watch and flick on the Sony 12E-B3 halogen desk lamp, the Y Tu Mama Tambien (green) poster over the Steelcase Suite III computer desk, clad as I am in the Armani slacks (a deep blue that is almost black except in that moment just before dusk when the sun catches the angle just right) that I picked up at Prado's while I was looking for a match for the Gucci casual kind of a teal but yet not pullover that makes my gym-chisled chest bulge exactly right, I thought to myself that if anyone did a real parody of the way Patrick Bateman (the literary character) thinks, no one would get it.

So I plunge the Haverhill knife with the double serrated stainless steel edge into the still heaving chest of my date (what was her name) as her one still open eye fixes on me with that all waxy, glassy blank stare and get out the Habit-Trail while stopping to drink the last of brut champagne gone so sadly flat from New Years Eve, the Field's crsytal long stemmed glass clinking dully on the Wisconsn marble counter top.

but see, only Patrick Bateman will get this and the rest of you think I am more looney than ever so I go away and leave everyone to their winter indoor fun.

    Nice man...

    Here's my new card

    Nice. Nice color.

    That's bone.

  10. Flash Tizzle, Steff thanks for the compliments (except for the POS reference. I again have refrained from name calling and once again you have resorted to it). Cwsox, take a deep breath, it’s all good. I guess I just have a problem with Steff’s wording in her posts. I said earlier, some of her posts are quite informative, sometimes they just rub me the wrong way. White sox in ’04, I would never come to a message board looking for a fight, that’s absurd. Keep it up and I will however, come out to Valpo and kick your ass. And southsider2k4, Michigan City isn’t too much further from there, so watch your step as well. Seriously guys, I mean no harm, just a long off season. Look at the clock, it’s time to go home. That sure did make the afternoon fly by.

BTW…could I get a copy of that steff?

  11. BAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! BAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!

You got that right, keep on following.

Nice try on the rewording, only it would have went something like this..

"I was out the other day with Dave Wills and Mark's Dad talking about the CBA and we stopped off to get some lunch and ran into Sidney Ponson. Anyway, after lunch, I dropped off Willsy and Mark's Dad at PK's house in Bridgeport 'cause Mark was visiting with Paul. They asked me if I wanted to come in for a few beers, but I told them I had other plans. Without them, I figured I could get some real work done, so I called up Sandy Alderson and asked him to email me a copy of the MLB CBA and he told me sure thing Steff. You know, most people would have to pay $20, but Sandy and I are tight. So now I've got it, who wants it? Okay southsider2k4, you want it,... sit down,... shake hands,...rollover.....good boy. Okay, here's your copy. Who else? The Critic. Okay Critic, what do you say? "Baaaahhh" "Baaaahhh". Good boy, here's your copy. HSC's Biggest Fan...kneel before me and kiss my feet. Good Boy, you are a good servant. I'm like the queen bee here at soxtalk.com. And for the last time, Colon is going to the Yankees and there is nothing wrong with Sid's arm."

Disclaimer...The above is not a real quote

  12. If you want to look at message history, how many of your messages are of this exact same variety.  Just about half of your message are attacks on the same person.

And if you had read any of the other threads, you would have realized that her message was a continuation of another thread where the CBA had been talked about, and she said she was going to try to get it for everyone else who had been asking about it.

Sorry man, I don't live on this board or hang on her every word. To each his own though. Thanks for doing the stat totals for my posts, that should come in handy somewhere. Do you have my home and road splits as well?

Who sang that song, "Too much time on my hands"?

  13. Thanks for the input fellas. cwsox, you seem to make the most sense. I may have been a bit harsh. southsider2k4 thanks for your 2 cents, but you can have it back and aboz56 my message was thought out. The thing I think you guys are missing is that I'm positive that she is not the only one who knows people in the game or in the business, yet she is the only one who constantly boasts about it. Personally, I don't understand the little "cult following" she has on this board. We make fun of cubs fans for being sheep, but this board is very similar in regards to her. The way she began this post, "I have the CBA....Who wants it?", like she's dangling a carrot in front of a rabbit. Rather than tactfully saying, "if you'd like a copy of the CBA, leave your email address and I'll send it to you". I'll be the first to admit that she does quite often have very interesting information to share, but IMHO, she quite often comes across with an "I told you so" or "look what I got" or "look who I know" or "I'm right, you're wrong" type tone to her posts.

  14. I didn't do that...

No, of course you didn't. I'm sure you got it from Sidney Ponson or Mark Buehrle or someone else so you could come on this web site and name drop and feel like a real insider.

Is this a place to talk White Sox Baseball or a restroom to have a pissing contest about who knows more people in the business or has more "insider information"? I really try to come on here and just read through posts, various rumors and whatnot, but it seems certain posters have a habit of constantly bringing up, "I know this guy" or "I got this from so-and-so", etc. Let me say something, "We're happy for you". It's probably just me feeling irritated about a frustrating off-season. I'm done with my rant.

I'm going to return some video tapes.

  15. He was the top rated prospect in the Giants organization back in 1998 and 1999. Here is the write-up on him back then...

    1. Jason Grilli, RHP

    Age: 22 B-T: R-R Ht: 6-4 Wt: 185

Drafted: Seton Hall, 1997 (1st) Signed by: Alan Marr

Background: After being drafted with the No. 4 overall pick in 1997, Grilli held out too long and missed the season. He quickly made up for lost time that fall in instructional league and Hawaii Winter Baseball, where he was named the now-defunct league's last No. 1 prospect. He threw 163 innings last year between Double-A and Triple-A in his first full season and the Giants wisely kept him from any winter ball action. His father, Steve, is a former big league righthander and works as a scout with the Cardinals.

Strengths: Grilli's strengths go beyond his raw stuff. He throws an above-average fastball that tops out at 94 mph and has excellent late-moving life. His changeup also is a plus pitch. But best of all, Grilli has the potential to have solid command of both pitches because a mechanically-sound, low-maintenance delivery enables him to consistently spot his pitches low in the strike zone. And Grilli's makeup may outstrip his stuff. Grilli grew up around big league clubhouses and the Giants say he has the mental toughness, poise and understanding of winning that good big leaguers have.

Weaknesses: Scouts felt Grilli's top pitch in college was his knee-buckling curveball, but Grilli struggled at times last year to find his touch and control of the pitch. His lack of innings and a consistent breaking ball were exposed when Grilli was hit harder after his promotion to Triple-A.

The Future: The one major flaw on the Giants roster last year was a reliance on veteran righthanders such as Danny Darwin, Mark Gardner and Orel Hershiser, who combined for 563 innings. The organization is counting heavily on Grilli to lead a group of strong-armed prospects into the rotation over the next two years. While Grilli probably won't start '99 in the majors, he should make his big league debut sometime this season.

  16. Cause I do. I've known Sidney for 5 years. There is nothing wrong with his arm... from HIS mouth.

Like I said, just my opinion. You are simply relaying what someone else told you, even if it was Sidney himself. I just found out I don't have an ACL in my right knee, but my knee feels fine. It was discovered through a routine physical. Unless you are his doctor or have seen the MRI, you don't have a clue about Sidney Ponson's labrum. I understand he would have no reason to lie to you, but this is something ballplayers don't go around sharing with everyone. It could possible jeapordize his career and future earnings.

  17. It was a rumor of a slightly torn labrum.. he's fine.

This is what I (they) were talking about earlier. I know written words do not express emotion, but at times, like this one, your post seems to express that you know for sure how his labrum is. Unless you are him or his doctor, you, or anyone else for that matter, doesn't really know how his labrum is. If I recall correctly, you stated in another thread, if you posts came accross with the sort of "bank on it" tone, to let you know. IMO, this is one of those times.

    Just my opinion, of course.

  18. When healthy, IMO, Brown has top 3 stuff in all of baseball. When the Sox were going thru their slump (well, one of the many) and the Dodgers were on the schedule, I was sure Brown would no-hit the Sox. Luckily, he was hurt and we didn't have to face him. We'll see how he does in NY. Many have had trouble dealing with all the pressure.
