  1. My guess with Melky remains that he was clean for 2 months and then resumed breaking the rules and hoping the testing regime wouldn't catch him. Only possible way a guy goes from that punchless to suddenly having huge power. But aside from that, if 3-4 guys on a team in the regular lineup all struggle for 2 months and under-perform...and they're not hurt, yes, that's the kind of thing that should fall on the manager for not having them ready to go.

This is one of those WTF posts that I can't believe I'm reading. Sounds like you did not watch any games before Memorial Day. Perhaps you were wrapped up with the Hawks bandwagon fans. Melky was absolutely crushing the ball for the first two months of the season and was the recipient of the worst luck I've probably seen ever by a player. Every time, seemingly, he came up, he crushed the ball right at somebody. Those balls are now finding holes and gaps. Check the stats on his BA of balls in play to verify this. No, he didn't all of a sudden start juicing again. He's a solid hitter.

  2. I can't really find much logic in this.

Try a little harder. I'm asking why, if Gardenhire is too crusty and out-of-touch to manage a team, Dombrowski is not too out-of-touch and antiquated to general manage a team? By the way, I'm not saying I side that way. I'm seeing a fundamental flaw philosophically though in the general thought process here. The irony is that Dombrowski is now three years older than Roland when the Sox found him too out-of-touch and antiquated to GM in 1985.

  3. here is a wild arse statement.

would the new ownership keep the team in chi???

It's smart philosophy around these parts to not want to pay players for past performance. Seasoned managers like Gardenhire are washed-up, out of touch, etc. So, I'm seriously wondering why a 60 year old guy who has been around the block several times, has made his money and hasn't necessarily shown any apptitude for new philosophies in player evaluation other than carrying his owner's checkbook around for the past nine years, would be the savior of this franchise. The trend in GM hiring seems in CHC, Boston, SD, etc is to hire guys in their early 30s.

  4. I want pierzynski

The Sox are not going to add a catcher. Soto is Samardzija's personal caddy. Flowers is Sale's caddy. They aren't going to carry a 3rd, piss off the pitchers or have to retrain a guy to follow Coop's direction with two months left.

  5. Why is it so important to find an AL name? If it's concerns about a guy struggling with a league switch, I don't think it's that big a deal.

It's not? Have you seen the last five combined years of Dunn and LaRoche?

  6. I wouldn't mind Cashner either.

Avi, Anderson, Montas, Danish, Adams, and someone else for Upton, Ross, and Cashner.

Everyone makes fun of Kenny and blames him for the state of the franchise....and now all of a sudden you are proposing clearing out the entire f***ing minor league system for a rental and a couple of arms we dont need?

    Unreal. Nintendo trades and hypocrisy.

  7. The 03 magglio was not a SGA. it was for retail sale, and came in clamshell packaging(I saw some other 03 ASG bobbles, from players on other teams, in the same packaging at jewel that summer).

I didn't catch that. It was an AGP, same style as all of the other Sox ones.

Disqualify the 2002 Konerko and Thomas also then, and the '03 Konerko and Thomas. All of these fit right in with the AGP bobbles though and not those crappy looking Forever Collectibles.

  8. Didn't see Jose Valentin mentioned. Also the road-jersey Frank Thomas and Paul Konerko from 2002. Also from 2003, the Konerko home jersey batting, the Magglio home jersey All-Star batting, and the Frank home jersey kneeling. On top of those, there are variations of all three in the black alternate unis. Also not sure if you listed Bill Melton and Joe Crede.

  9. I would wait till the off-season to potentially trade Q. Give EJ a look, see if he can be a solid 4/5. See if Fulmer is as far along as some think and can take the Rodon route to the bigs.

If you can get Shark back and go with Sale-Shark-Rodon-EJ-Danks/Fulmer they could be in good shape if they hit on the Shark/Q trades.

IS there actually talk that people want EJ back? LOL. Good Grief.

  10. Depends on what type of B/B+ prospect it is.

    Catcher? Make the deal.

Anything else I'd be hesitant, and inclined to just get the draft pick.

At this point, take the draft pick. So we might get back, with a B-prospect, someone who might be as good as Semien or Phegley? Geez.

  11. Seriously, so tired of this debate. It seems everyone in the suburbs thinks the stadium would be built next door. What if sox park was built in bridge view by toyota park, is that soooo much more convenient to get to? After all, it's in the "burbs"!

It's asinine. In terms of location, nothing could be more centralized and better capable of public transportation use than the current location (except for the plan from the early 80s that talked about a stadium just north of NW train station (now Ogilive) which would have been amazing.

  12. If the Marketing Department is reading this, then here is my Open Letter to Brooks Boyer….

"Brooks - at the end of the day, The Cell is in a terrible location relative to your fan base. Your challenge is to get people to show up on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday….and even Friday. Unfortunately, you couldn't give away enough tickets (heck, even enough t-shirts) to get people to suffer through Chicago traffic. My friends in Cary and Arlington Heights only go to games on Saturday and Sunday. Imagine the people that would show up if you had a ballpark in the burbs. The sox had that opportunity but JR failed to see the genius in moving to Addison.

Relocation won't happen because JR has a sweetheart deal with the State of Illinois. What's the solution? Remove JR and his cronies and get people who know how to build a sustainable winner."

So the Sox should move their stadium an hour outside the city limits of Chicago, with its population of 4+ million people along with inner ring suburbs, to a location so it can be closer to your friends in Cary?

    Seriously?

    Asinine debate. Unreal.

  13. I don't agree with the first part of this at all. Is the Cell in the best location? Nope. But is the burbs a better place? No way. Traffic will suck out there too, don't see the difference. Last Friday was a huge crowd, bigger than Saturday. Don't underestimate the appeal of fireworks on the 3rd of July. Your friends would make the trip if the Sox were winning. They'd sit through traffic if the Sox were winning. They'd be tired at work on Wednesday if the Sox were winning. Let's not pretend that the City of Chicago all of a sudden fell in love with hockey. The Hawks won and keep winning. That is why they sell out. Same with the Bulls. Cubs are getting there, but I also agree that many people that go to Cubs games are tourists.

I do agree that we need a change in the guard. It seems stale and needs to be switched up. I agree 100% with that.

This is 100% correct. If the team was winning, the park would be full. The park was full at the end of 2005 and through 2006 and 2007.

Lots of bandwagon Blackhawks fans now, but recall the United Center was empty 10 years ago. Sports teams and their success run in cycles.

Thinking that there would be more Sox fans now by moving the stadium an hour OUTSIDE of the median population center is insane. Ok, so that helps someone in Addison, but for every person it helps, it hurts 10 people living in Bridgeport, Beverly or Mt. Greenwood.

  14. "If you build it they will come." The public transportation would have come with public demand and/or with the stadium.

The Chicago media would have run the team out of town by now. Mark Giangreco wouldn't be sitting in his car for an hour and a half both ways to go out to Addison to cover the White Sox. The team would be dead.

  15. It's a fact though...Sale could have had 16 starts, including the final day of the season, and now that's down to 15.

They aren't maximizing his starts when it could come down to one game.

If he pitches Sunday, here is what he could do:

    7-19 vs KC

    7-25 at Cle

    7-30 at Bos

    8-5 vs TB

    8-11 vs LAA

    8-16 vs Cubs

    8-21 at Sea

    8-27 vs Sea

    9-2 at Min

    9-7 vs Cle

    9-13 vs Min

    9-18 at Cle

    9-23 at Det

    9-29 vs KC

    10-4 vs Det

Think of it this way- Sale is now ready for the one game Wild Card playoff.

  16. Several years ago, I knew a guy who knew Reinsdorf's son quite well. I posted on this site many years ago there were blueprints to build 3 structures in the parking lots, I was told they were bars but 2 of them were bars, one the Sports Depot. This was years before they were built. They didn't build the one on the other side of the park....yet. JR's son now runs the Bulls, and despite what you heard over the years, at least as of a few years ago, he also hoped to be in his dad's role with the White Sox. If you read the Tribune article years ago, JR's heirs will retain his power with the ballclub upon his death. (Which I hope is a long ways off) . I would expect his son to take over. It will probably be a different style. Probably a little less conservative.

I'm pretty sure Jerry will outlive Boers, so let's talk about the B and B succession plan.

  17. I am surprised that Chris Sale is not a draw. I saw this week that he did not impact attendance in the Houston series.

There was a Blackhawks game that night and storms that caused two rain delays. I didn't even watch the game on TV that night let alone go to the Cell. Just amazing nobody would consider that before making a statement like "Chris Sale isn't a draw."

  18. Minor league records (especially the AAA team) aren't that important to the major league operations.

The only thing that matters is the development of the legit prospects...winning is probably 10% at most. Now if it's the A teams, rookie ball, AA...depending on the organization, winning percentage becomes a bit more important, especially if the major league team has struggled to put winning teams out on the field.

The problem with looking for Charlotte solutions are contract situations like they have with Melky Cabrera and John Danks.

If they're willing to bench Cabrera, they still don't have an everyday option in Thompson from everything we've read about him.

The front office can tinker with the bullpen mix a bit (Guerra up), but they're unlikely to do much better than Petricka or Putnam pitching as well as they can (see 2014)....for now, the best options there are still Crain or Nate Jones.

Catching...that situation has been discussed into the ground. If they felt Nieto or Kevan Smith or Kottaras were better long-term solutions, they would be up.

In the short-term, all they can do is risk Beckham slumping offensively by moving him back to 2B...or putting Bonifacio at 2B, in order to jump start the offense. The third option would be signing Everth Cabrera to do what they had hoped Micah Johnson would (except play better defense).

The main problem is Beckham isn't raking LHP, he's hitting RHP much better (wiping out the idea of a strict platoon at 3B with Conor)...but somehow they're going to have to play Bonifacio more often for either LaRoche or Cabrera against lefties (for now, it seems they will bench Cabrera and bat Alexei 2nd in those situations).

They can't give Sanchez more than another 3-5 games to get his offensive game back on track.

How on earth does one read the original post and not know the entire point revolves around Skinner?
