  1. The fact that the stimulus qualifications stem from your 2019 income just sucks for me. I work in sales and my 2019 income was great so I didn't qualify for the stimulus check. My 2020 income has been horrendous and am in much need of any financial relief since I've pretty much only made my base pay since March...but of course I won't qualify for this next batch of checks either.

This whole thing is getting bizarre.

I got a phone call from a Ticket Rep of the Blackhawks in the middle of last week. He told me that the NHL is looking at a January 13th Opening Night, and that the Hawks are working with the NHL, City of Chicago and the United Center to begin allowing between 25%-50% stadium capacity in February. His exact quote was "and hopefully more as long as the vaccine doesn't stall". Due to the limited capacity, they aren't planning on selling any "single game tickets", just offering opportunities to STH's. Does anyone here have Blackhawks ST's to verify? At first, I was skeptical, due to him just wanting to get a sale. But when you look at some of the stuff going on at college basketball venues, it makes some sense.

Assuming that is true, how would we be good with 25%-50% indoors in February, but not 50% outdoors in April?

I'm a ticket rep for the Avs. Rumors of 56 game season starting Jan 13 is the goal. The players and owners don't have an agreement on players wages yet though, which is why that hasn't been announced. Nothing is official yet, but it sounds like we will be starting the season without fans and if we are able to welcome a limited capacity at some point we will, but we by no means are trying to put a specific time on that like your Blackhawks Rep was saying with February. We are communicating that if you have a deposit placed for season tickets or a ticket package then you will get a pre-sale for single games if/when they become available. Any deposits placed for the 20-21 season will be rolled over to 21-22 unless you would prefer a refund.

  3. Does anyone here have much experience with rowing machines? Looking for a lower impact cardio on the joints in my feet so it's between a stationary bike or a rowing machine and I think I'll get more use out of a rowing machine. I've narrowed it down to water or air, but would love to hear some feedback from anyone that has some good info to pass along to help with a decision. Thanks!

Robert doesn't really strike me as an analytical player. It really seems like he has no plan at the plate half the time. You'd think he'd lay off sliders 5 feet off the plate more if he was looking at how pitchers were attacking him.

If he's trying to improve on that aspect, then that's great for him and this franchise. If he can just have good at bats 2/3 of the time, he's going to be extremely dangerous.

To me it seemed like he swung through more fastballs in the zone than sliders off the plate in the second half of the season.

Like any of the grand conspiracy claims which are focused on political allegiances - that would mean that every other country in the world is also ignoring it and all part of a massive global conspiracy just to ensure Trump can never get elected. I'll let you decide if the world is really able to collectively achieve that and for what reason.

I feel you. I don't actually believe it, but would love to be able to have a fact based response to a few particular people in my life about it.

  6. Has anyone seen the video on facebook that has been circulating that last couple of days that keeps getting deleted about America's Frontline Doctors and how they are claiming hydroxychloroquine and zinc treated all 300 patients that the doctor has dealt with? https://www.rev.com/blog/transcripts/americas-frontline-doctors-scotus-press-conference-transcript?fbclid=IwAR0s75S-S3VcZ4lPvKRR5ERNEDlZcqW1kY_zG0RNw-0TbNAmzWBDpBwcasU

Anyone have any idea on the validity of this? The right is screaming for it to be true and that there is some big conspiracy against it. Facebook is actively deleting it everytime it gets posted.

I had it in a bar in Saugatuck a couple of summers back and thought it was great too.  Is it available in Illinois?

Not sure how far their reach is at this point. Living in CO now and it’s not available here.

Has anyone else tried the Greenbush Starchicken ipa?

Yeah man, Greenbush is great, especially the starchicken. About 15-20 min from my hometown.

I'm assuming you live in the Chicago area. Since this is labor only lets break it down. Two workers should be able to remove your old stuff in one day. The carpet will be fast, the tile show. So 16 hours of labor. One worker should be able to install 500 square feet in one day. So two guys, one day, 16 more hours of labor. I'm at 32 hours. I don't have a calculator but I think that's around $75 per hour to the company.

It seems like it's in the ballpark.

Have you considered doing some or all of it yourself?

In the Denver area now actually. I gave it a quick thought of doing it myself, but I don’t feel 100% confident in my ability to do that.  Could probably find someone I know that has done it before to have around and help though.

  10. We own a pretty small house, with the main level being about 600 sq ft. We currently have half of it (living room) carpeted and other half (entry way and kitchen) with tile. We hate how the divide limits our living room space and where we can put our couch as there is a solid 2 ft of tile that could be living room space and the tile is just terribly cheap. It cracked in a couple spots and had to get those tiles replaced, then the installer used the wrong color grout so it doesn't even match the rest of the tile! We are debating having all of that torn up to install a wood laminate across the entire main level. We had an estimate done and it would cost $2600 for them to tear up what we have an install the flooring of our choice (flooring price is in addition to that). Couple questions here: Does anyone have wood laminate and what are your opinions on that? Does that price seem reasonable?

Oh and one more. All offseason people screamed at me "You have to use Baseball Prospectus WAR for catchers because that's the only one that captures defense and framing!".

Narvaez has outperformed McCann on that.

That's interesting. I'll be the first to admit I'm not the most savvy guy in the world when it comes to advanced metrics. I think another thing to take note of though is I don't think Narvaez's D improves like that with the Sox coaching.

McCann's definitely been a good signing, but we only have control of him for 1 more season. So far the org seems to have no idea what they're doing with Collins, so McCann and Narvaez as the catching spot in 2020 would have made for a really strong tandem behind the plate if McCann can keep this up while still giving Narvaez a chance to grow, which he has done this year. You could then either give McCann a $30 million contract as a free agent after 2020 if he keeps this up or look for a cheaper option if Narvaez improves.

It's a big loss to give up 5 years of a young catcher to get 2 years of a closer, when 1 of those years your team isn't even close to competitive, and when your team has enough money to sign 4 different closer candidates if they want to.

I think the organization knows what it wants for Collins. To me it seemed like Renteria wasn't on that same page during his cup of coffee though. I think the plan is for him to be the back up catcher and keep his bat in the lineup at first base/DH most days of the week. I'd be surprised if the plan isn't for McCann to be the starter for the next few years, but who knows. I understand his offensive production is vastly improved this season, but his value on D is always there which is huge with our young pitching staff and mentoring young catchers in Collins and Zavala.

And yet things like "giving up on a player they shouldn't have given up on and trading him away for a closer in a losing season" and "failing to do anything with their international funds despite a 2 year head start" are things that both hamper the future and look exactly like the past.

I understand the frustration on the international level, but I personally don't miss Narvaez. Not great defensively and will probably regress offensively. According to BR Narvaez is at a 1.7 WAR this season while the guy we signed to replace him is at 2.5...

Considering how many people said "I'll hold off on saying Narvaez for Colome was a bad deal until I see what we get for Colome at the deadline", even if holding him was the right move there are some people who said they'd be mad if exactly this happened.

And that's fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I just don't think there is any reason for people to act irrationally about today. We've already shipped out everyone that was a trade-able asset. Now it's hopefully one more top 10 pick, sign a RF and a starter, and let our prospects develop into major league players. Regardless if we make the playoffs next season or not, it's going to be a hell of a lot more fun when you add Robert, Madrigal, Kopech, and whoever else to this team.
