  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 03:28 PM)
I have an urge to post a "tanaka signs with Cubs" message on the feed of the geology-based twitter I participate in to see if we get a good boost of followers.

what wrong these people that can make a lot of people piss off when they found your trolling

I cannot stand this guy. Can he at least pretend to be somewhat objective?

My dad was just telling me he's going to be speaking at the Hit n' Run benefit next week. I told him to have fun listening to his garbage.

he doesn't know anything he just going with everybody what else is saying

If Tanaka doesn’t sign with the Sox, would anyone here support a move like signing Ubaldo Jimenez? That type of signing would still make the staff rock solid. Plus Jimenez would be for less $/years.

    Sale

    Jimenez

    Quintana

    Danks

    Johnson/Paulino/Rienzo

I don't know I pass on him and dodger we're go after if they didn't sign tanaka

Gabe Kapler (yes, that Gabe Kapler) said Tanaka is not looking for a challenge and that not signing with the Cubs for that reason would be absurd. Don't ask me how he knows this.

That could work in sox advantage

They have a team that can compete right now, they have a huge need for a front of the rotation pitcher, and they have $25 million in space under the luxury tax line this season.

They make by far the most sense. It would actually be dumb of them to not offer him $25 million this season, he fills a direct need on an expensive, veteran-laden team that has a clearly designed "Win-now" roster.

Rotation is a disaster they have no closer everybody not getting young

I'm still predicting NYY. It makes the most baseball sense, and if they're willing to spend $115m, why not $130m? I mean it isn't like they don't HAVE the money. If they're going to blow the luxury tax away at all, why be outbid by $10-15m?

How do they make sense ?

Dodgers have a few guys repped and have a very strong relationship with Close's agent. I still think the Dodgers are the major front-runners. All things being equal, I'd be surprised if he doesn't do the LA thing. He wants to be on the west coast, they are competitors, and he wouldn't have as much pressure (if he isn't interested in it) being in a rotation with Kershaw/Greinke.

I have a feeling almost every teams offer will be within a few mill of each other (annually) with the one possible exception being the Cubs. My gut tells me, due to the Sox unwiling to go so long on guaranteed money that they will have a more unique offer/pitch to Tanaka. If you could sell Tanaka on 4 years with other options, his agent might be intrigued as he'd hit the market again, in his prime, with a shot to land another major deal. He would leave a lot of money on the table and there is risk that he doesn't perform as advertised and that deal isn't there. Right now, he benefits at least a bit from the new posting rules and the fact that it was a thin FA market.

his wife wants to in the west cost

  8. this is from the link i posted

A number of teams, which could include the Yankees, Dodgers, Diamondbacks, White Sox, and Cubs, submitted formal contract offers to Tanaka up through to the 16th US time (17th Japan time). Almost all teams probably submitted nine-figure deals at six years. [Nikkan Sports 1/18/2014]
