Why Tanner McDougal again? Wait What?

Featured Replies

What is the infatuation with Tanner McDougal. After I saw him earlier in the year (think it was for one day) I was thinking who the f*** is this guy? I dug a little deeper and something is going on. Look at the guy’s stats. You feel bad for him sometimes (guy couldn’t win a game for 4 years from when he started professionally!) - not that win/loss matters but…. He’s 2:1 K/BB - not very good. It’s really surprising he stuck with it after performing so pedestrian. Really. Look at his numbers: .232 avg. His WHIP after throwing 5477 pitches — or 321.1 innings — is 1.41. his ERA is 4.45; Then ya give him credit his last 2 years he was improving. But the jumps from A to AAA or getting to the show — to sit there; until tonight — didn’ doesn’t make sense, no? Are their clauses in contracts that guarantee a certain level of $ that they owe him if he doesn’t make it?

And I’m not trying to rip on the guy but when the Sox have been so successful so far with the current crop it sticks out when you don’t see that potential — or as I wrote above — Why Tanner McDougal again?
