Our Poor Chicago Media, er Again

Recommended Posts

Okay, in 2000 I stopped reading the Tribune because the day the Sox clinched the division the biggest article on their front page of the sports section was Kerry Woods pitches an eight inning gem, and in a small corner, Sox clinch division. Well, after a few years of reading the suntimes, I eventually went back to the trib. I know I know, its still biased, but the suntimes writers are just so horrid. I really didn't have a choice. Well, I was yet again shocked by the Trib but in a different way this past Sunday. As you all know Saturday night the Bulls clinched their first playoff birth in 8 years. Thats pretty big news if you ask me. In fact, its gigantic. While eating breakfast with my girlfriend I pointed out to her how the cubs and Carlos Zambrano's great game were gigantically smacked right in the middle of the first page of the sports section, and oh, in the bottom corner, Bulls clinch playoff birth. I understand the trib's bias against the Sox, but the Bulls? Thats jsut a load....

It's a matter of one branch of the company hyping another branch of it. If the Trib owned the Bulls, they'd be trumpeting the Bulls success. It's all about cha-ching.

Yeah, but in this case, there is a big difference. Its not like there is another basketball team in Chicago.

It's one of the reasons I'd rather there be some type of rule put in place where media outlets can't own professional sports teams...but I'm sure there is some type of catch surrounding that and that it has happened for a while.

Just seems like a horrible idea from the beginning...but then again, I think the Tribune bought the Cubs in like 71 or something like that, IIRC, and the Sox were the more popular team for quite some time even during that run.

Whatever...when the Sox win the series this year, and in big print on the front page it mentions that Dusty has been fired, I'm sure there will be more then a few nasty letters written to the Trib. ;)
