Fun with dates

Here are some coincidental facts and dates about the White Sox and their last couple of playoff seasons:

1959 - Last World Series appearance

1983 – Harold Baines is a player on the 1983 team, and is now the current bench coach. He was born in 1959, the last time the Sox got to the WS. Greg Walker is a player on the 1983 team, and is now the hitting coach. He was also born in 1959.

The Sox do not make the playoffs again until 1993. Joey Cora is a player on that team and is now the 3rd Base coach. Tim Raines is a player on the 1993 team, and is now the 1st Base coach; he was also born in 1959. Finally, Ozzie Guillen is a player on the 1993 team and is now the manager.

The last time the Sox made the playoffs was in 2000. That year the Sox played Seattle in the ALDS. Freddie Garcia is on Seattle in 2000, and pitches Game 1 vs the Sox. Other notable players in 2000, Paul Konerko, Joe Crede, Mark Buehrle, Jon Garland, and Harold Baines. Josh Paul (LAA) and Tony Graffanino (BOS) are also on the Sox playoff roster in 2000 and are involved in impact plays in the 2005 playoffs as opponents that go in favor of the Sox. Seattle’s coach in 2000 – Lou Piniella.

2000 was also the year Ozzie Guillen retired as a player in TB, which is the same team that takes 2 out of 3 vs CLE to help the Sox clinch the Division this year. TB’s coach – Lou Piniella.

B.McCarthy, a significant contributor to the Sox at the end of the season was born in 1983.

And for a personal one. The last time the Sox had 4 consecutive complete games was on August 19th, 1974, which ironically is my birthdate.

Yeah, I wish, I am in EST, so I got a lot less sleep than most.

I was just looking into the past history of the Sox and kept seeing some interesting dates that were aligned and thought I would post them.

:cheers
