A--2,240.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Game Story KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Gabe Alvarez hit a three-run homer to highlight a five-run rally in the top of the fourth inning and help the Birmingham Barons defeat the Tennessee Smokies, 8-7. After Chris Saunders singled in a run in the fourth and later scored on an error to make the score 3-1 for Birmingham, Alvarez hit his third homer of the year to push the advantage to five. Saunders had two RBI and Guillermo Reyes added a solo homer for the Barons, who have won 11 of their last 13 games. Neal Cotts (6-1) yielded an unearned run and three hits, striking out nine, in five innings to grab the win. Cotts has allowed no runs, nine hits and fanned 22 batters in 16 innings over his last three wins. Royce Ring, who has not been scored upon over his last 17 frames, pitched a scoreless 1 1/3 innings to grab his 10th save. Scott Krause, who is hitting .471 (24-for-51) in his last 18 games, had three hits, including a two-run homer, and Caonabo Cosme added three RBI to for Tennessee, which has dropped four of five.
