JoeBatterz
Now that we have taken a monster dive that started with the Red Sox Series right before the All-star Break, let's take a look at how the White Sox are still regarded on a national scale. Keep in mind that some of these rankings are more current than others. They are all from the past week. Sport Syndicate CBS Sportsline: #7 The best part about this long slide is the notion it won't last much longer. They will get hot again, along with the rotation. You're never as bad as you look during a long cold streak. This is certainly the case here. ESPN: #6 The Twins helped knock the once-dominant White Sox into a sputtering second-half swoon. Don't panic. Ozzie Guillen and the White Sox still have a lot time to right the ship. Fox Sports: #4 The Pale Hose have gotten off to a miserable start in the second half (2-10) since the break), and the Twins have pulled even with them in the Wild Card chase. Chicago hitters aren’t getting on base of late, and Freddy Garcia and Javier Vazquez have been awful in recent weeks. The Sox need to put Brandon McCarthy in the rotation and, prior to next week’s non-waiver trade deadline, pick up a reliable right-handed setup man. Former White Sock Roberto Hernandez would be a nice fit. The Oregonian: #7 Ozzie Guillen's latest: Berating pitcher for missing on retaliation pitch. Sports Illustrated: #2 Ozzie Guillen is slam-dunking water bottles. The wild-card lead has dimmed to 2 1/2 games. Heck, Jon Garland can't hit the broad side of a Texas Ranger. If the Series champs aren't cracking, they're at least bending. "It seems like everyone's feeling sorry for themselves," Guillen said. Trade tease: With Sandy Alomar in, is a good pen piece next? Team Rankings by Mike Greenfield: #4 The Sports Network: #3 Could use some pitching help at the trade deadline. TSN-Canada: #7 The hot rumour this week has been that the White Sox were very close to landing Alfonso Soriano from the Washington Nationals. That sounds suspiciously like something leaked out of the Nats' front office. Key Injuries: None. USA Today's Sports Weekly: #3 USA Today Individual Award Rankings: AL MVP: Jim Thome #1, Jermaine Dye #8 Average Rank: 4.8 Odds to WIN the World Series: 7-1 (5th overall) AL Leader Tigers 7/2 NL Leader Mets 4/1 Cubbies 1000-
