Rooftop Shots
A thought came to my mind, but I couldn't find anyone who might have an answer that is on a positive note on my question, so I decided to post it here and see if anyone on Soxtalk could help. I know that there is a lot of talk recently of a "firesale" or "White Flag" etc. My question...............Does anyone know of any MLB team in past years where they had "Blue-chip" type players that whereas their organizations traded them by the July 31st deadline for other high end prospects, or veteran players to fill some much needed holes on their team, ONLY to have it turn around unexpectedly.................and much to everyones surprise............... all the new young players actually helped turn the ball club around and went deep into the playoffs in that same year? I ask this because, I've never heard of a so-called fire sale that wound up in a "blessing in disguise." and was wondering if it ever happened. Just looking for something else to hope in if it all comes down to it. Thanks!!! Rooftop!!
Gregory Pratt
Sometimes, there's been addition by subtraction. Take the Phillies last year, exploding without Abreu, but no, I don't know of anything that TRULY constituted a firesale doing that.
