Law question

Featured Replies

OK, I have a question about law. I learned a few years ago that in this country, a convicted felon cant own or even use a firearm for the rest of his/her life. Question is, does this law apply to felons who were convicted of a nonviolent felony, such as counterfeiting or driving without a license?

what you learned is wrong

gun laws vary in each state

whether a felony conviction bars a person from owning a gun depends on the laws of each individual state, as well as whether that applies to nonviolent as well as violent felony convictions

whether driving without a license is a felony depends on the laws of each state and how it is treated - it can either be a misdeamor / civil infraction in Michigan or it can be a felony depending on the circumstances and how much you piss off the cop or the prosecutor

then of course depending on the laws of each state, one may or may not be able to get felony convictions expunged so that one can have a clean record

and of course the circumstances for that and which convictions that applies to depends on each state's law
