August 26, 200322 yr I was checkin out the Sox farm system and noticed Gabe Alvarez is having a pretty good season for Birmingham. He's hittin over .300 with 11 hr's and is 4th or 5th in the Southern league in rbi's. Anybody know anything about this guy?

He's hittin over .300 with 11 hr's and is 4th or 5th in the Southern league in rbi's. Anybody know anything about this guy? He was a second round pick of, I believe the San Diego Padres, a few years ago. SS out of Southern Cal. He was a stud back in college.

He is a minor league veteran who has played partial seasons in the Big Leagues with Detroit and San Diego. He was a top prospect in the Southern League back in 1999. He would be a decent guy for a Major League team to hold onto in AAA as insurance if help was needed temporarily. Good hitter, who actually got off to a very slow start this year.
