Ortiz "likely" going to Sox for prospects

Although this is already on another thread, I wanted to make sure everyone sees it.

NASHVILLE -- The Giants' party was scheduled to leave the winter

meetings and fly home Monday night.

Instead, they changed their flights, checked back into their rooms and

were talking about potential deals involving Russ Ortiz.

The most likely destination for Ortiz at the moment: the White Sox,

for prospects.

The Giants are over budget. And Ortiz will make $4.2 million next

year. Coincidentally, Edgardo Alfonzo just signed a deal in which his

salary next year, counting his prorated signing bonus, happens to be

$4 million.

Personally, I think the Giants are stupid for signing Durham and Fonzie if it means they have to trade Ortiz. To me, Schmidt and Ortiz are the two best pitchers the Giants have. Obviously, no one wants Livan Hernandez and I guess they'd like to keep Rueter. It will be interesting to see who could be a part of this deal. I am just glad to see that it looks as though they won't be trading any established players for Ortiz, although I wouldn't mind giving up Lee to get him. Maybe Corwin Malone and Stewart for Ortiz. Hopefully the Sox won't trade anyone like Honel as a part of this deal. Ortiz could definitely be a solid #2 starter for the Sox and he has playoff experience. Here's a look at what Ortiz has done the past four

seasons:

1999 - 18-9 (3.81 ERA) in 207.1 innings pitched; 164 K; 125 BB

2000 - 14-12 (5.01 ERA) in 195.2 innings pitched; 167K; 112 BB

2001 - 17-9 (3.29 ERA) in 218.2 innings pitched; 169K; 91 BB

2002 - 14-10 (3.61) in 214.1 innings pitched; 137K; 94 BB

Perhaps a little better than Todd Ritchie.

;)

Yeah, and this:

"White Sox general manager Ken Williams similarly returned empty handed. He was having discussions with San Francisco up until Monday afternoon about Russ Ortiz for a package of young players—the likes of Willie Harris, Jeff Liefer and a pitching prospect like Corwin Malone or Josh Stewart—but didn't make a deal."Phil Rogers

It looks more and more then were just gonna trade straight up for Ortiz using prospects, but I still get the feeling that KW will f*** this up and give away Lee or PK for no f***en reason.

Stop the speculation..... Ortiz was traded to Atlanta according to another thread.
