Home Run stats

So we all know about the Sox lack of power this season...Only 27 home runs through the first 41 games speaks for itself but if we look at when these home runs are being hit and this impact (or lack thereof) within the games they are hit it is pretty shocking.

Just some stats....

27 home runs total:

18: Solo

5: 2 Run

3: 3 Run

1: Grand slam

By my count 15 of the 27 home runs have been completely un-impactful for the outcome of the game. Abreu's 7 home runs is a great example of this:

HR 1: Opening day Solo to make the score 4-1 KC in the middle innings in a game they lost 10-1

HR 2: Solo Home Run to put the Sox up 3-1 in a game they would win 4-1

HR 3: Grand Slam in Detroit to push Sox lead to 9-1 in a game they win 12-3

HR 4: Solo to put the Sox up 1-0 in first inning of a game they lose 6-2

HR 5: Next game Solo in the first to give Sox 1-0 lead in a game they win 6-0

HR 6: Ninth inning Solo with the score 10-1 Cincinnati in a game Sox lose 10-4

HR 7: Yesterday to make score 5-1 Twins in a game Sox lose 8-1

Abreu has not homered in a game decided by less than 3 runs...and 6 of the 7 have come with no one on base. His last meaningful (if you can call it that) home run came all the way back in the Sox second home series of the season against Cleveland.

In 41 games the Sox have at least one home run in 18 games. Have not homered at all in 23 games. Their longest steak of not hitting a home run was 9 games straight.

Home runs hit in games:

0: 23

1: 10

2: 7

3: 1

4+: 0

The Sox have hit back to back home runs in a game precisely one time at this point (Garcia, Laroche 1st inning in Milwaukee) and funny enough it was on a day our best home run hitter wasn't even in the lineup.

Home Runs to tie or take lead NOT INCLUDING to make score 1-0

Flowers 3-run bomb in KC to make score 3-1 Sox in an eventual 7-5 loss

Soto to tie Minnesota 4-4 in the 5th in a game Sox win 5-4

Cabrera 3-run homer off Chamberlain in 8th inning to tie game 6-6 in an eventual Sox 7-6 victory(biggest home run of the season to date).

That's it folks

At some point you would think a break out would come...because not only is this team not hitting the ball out of the yard but the ones that they actually are hitting are about as meaningless as it gets.
