So why didn't the organization try?
Apparently Uncle Jerry only gave Rick $130MM to take to the school book fair and the good books cost more than that.

So do 10% more after taxes and see if he turns that down. It's clear we had no other backup plan, so there is no way that $12 million should be all that important.
$12MM over 5 years is like MLB pocket lint.

They did. He did not want to come here. Why can't we understand that.
1-2% more on an offer isn't going to get someone to move away from their home. If you want an employee, offer 10% more. Otherwise you really didn't want him that badly.

Even bringing back Nova would preferable to having Covey in the rotation.
People are assuming Kopech will be good to go opening day. I think that would be a huge mistake.

Go spend some $$ on the remaining free agent pitchers before they are gone.
Relatively short term deals are not going to hurt this rebuild...trading significant assets to get an expensive contract for an aging pitcher might.
If Wheeler was your guy, give him what he wanted to come here. Don't say "We had the best offer (by 1%)"

I think he gets moved after Donaldson signs. He's not going to win that grievance.
Yeah, but nobody is trading for him until that is assured.

When is the grievance hearing on Kris Bryant? I suspect that may be holding the market up.

Those are just the FA pitchers per Fangraphs. I don't know further particulars.

https://blogs.fangraphs.com/david-prices-trade-value/
This article that came out today nails Price's market value pretty well
Somebody please send that to the Sox so they have a clue what he might be valued at.

I cannot believe that after finally rebuilding our minors to some level of respectability we would even contemplate giving away our best remaining assets. That's the exact program that resulted in a decade of misery.

Well maybe there is a reason why Rick Hahn is on the hot seat. Lmao 😂
the heated seats in his Mercedes malfunctioning?

your big signing is a 31 year old catcher. that sounds like a "going for it now" kind of signing. I guess not.

It's not like your experience is unique. Most of us just grow up at some point. Carry on.
Some of us grow up and spend their time complaining about complainers on message boards.

Well, you have to assume you get a legit #2 and either one of Cease or Kopech pitches to their top prospect potential and moves on up.
If Kopech and Cease end up sucking, then yes we are doomed.
It goes for all our young core, if they end up sucking then this rebuild goes to shit. No matter how many Free Agents you go out and get.
well very smart people are telling me Kopech will start the season in the minors to preserve his service time.

yes lets not give up yet on Lopez. Agree. Not that he is a number 3 right now but his talent alone is still too early to give up on. Some just take longer than others
He IS our #3 right now.

Might want to double check that.
And who cares what you did in 2018?
OK, I doubled checked and I'm right. So now what?

You have got to be kidding me. Obviously you have not watched Palka play. Some of our White Sox fans have no clue and say stuff just because they are mad at the organization.
You do realize Palka put up better numbers in 2018 than Mazara ever has, right? So not only is it possible, he actually has done it.

sox could literally have no one in the stands or tuned in and still be raking in the dough. They don't care. That's the business model.

I guess it makes me feel better we're drafting garbage at #46.

A better right fielder than Mazara, a couple starters and a reliever make me delusional? Didn’t Hahn say he wanted something similar lol
well, you're delusional to believe anything RH says.

Not really, only a few people.
Can I be retroactively excited prior to the Mazara news?

sorting through free agent platoon right-handed OF'ers, Kevin Pillar appears to be the best hitter of LHP.
-
Well we still need two guys that can give you 30 starts if needed. Won't be an easy task.
I'd take Keuchel just to have a warm body not named Dylan Covey. I don't care what he costs.
The cost of starting pitching

The ownership structure is some sort of tax sheltered investment scheme. the passive owners get cut a dividend check at the end of the year and everyone is happy. there is no incentive to "grow the business."
