  1. Didn't PETA one time put a fried chicken head into a little girl's box of McNuggets at McDonalds?  I'm pretty sure they did, but my memory is a little shaky.

:puke That really did happen, or atleast a breaded chicken head did find it's way into a box of chicken mcnuggets. I remember reading the story on CNN back in 2000 and it was f***ing hilarious. The kid's mom brought the head to the manager. The manager apologized and offered her another order, lmao. I don't remember the incident being attributed to a PETA stunt though.

  2. Yeah, over on the MLB board I had predicted a 4th place finish for the Royals before the season started. Their offense is good, bullpen and defense are decent, and SP is absolutely horrible. Because the SP is horrible, it will quickly turn the decent bullpen into a tired, worn down BP and poor SP will also put additional pressure on a mediocre defensive club. They'll start to really see those affects by mid-May. They will be left with no choice but to try to get something in return for Beltran by the deadline. Once Beltran is gone I believe that the Indians will steal 3rd place in this division from the Royals, with MIN in 2nd and our beloved Pale Hose in 1st. Book it.

  3. No matter what we lost in players over the offseason, optimism should have reigned after the firing of Jerry Manuel. I'm tellin' ya, that guy singlehandedly cost us a shot at the World Series last year. I don't care if we would've lost 1/2 the team from last season, as long as JM was on the bus with them out of town I was going to be positive about this season.

  4. from the daily southtown sports page,

    What about Joe?

While Valentin could get a rest today, Guillen said he has no plans to give third baseman Joe Crede a break anytime soon.

"Joe is going to be there for the rest of his life. He doesn't need a day off." Guillen said. "He hasn't even gotten on base yet to be tired."

    :lolhitting

  5. I voted closer by committee, although Koch deserves another shot for the time being.

Politte was awful in TOR and even made the comment this season that it requires a completely different mindset to close out games as opposed to being a set up man. I think Cliff was pretty much saying that he doesn't possess that mindset.

Damaso is weak with runners on base and also blew several games himself last season. I think he'd be a good component of a closer by committee scenario, but he proved last season that he can't handle the load alone.

DW, it'd be worth a shot, and again he'd fit into a closer by committee deal once he's moved out of the rotation and Cottsy is moved in.

Adkins has good stuff and would actually be worth a look as well.

  6. damn alot of these type threads lately in the message boards i visit.  I agree With Juggernaut on this one here.  We will always be hated due to the fact we support Isreal and because we are the force in the west that screws up anything one of those terrorist factions trys to do.  Go to help some country, we're hated for it.  We go deny some country help, world outcry is why the hell didn't the US help.  I hate seeing Vietnam and Iraq in the same sentence, i personally don't think it will come out like that but then again thats just me.  With the urban warfare thats going on in Iraq as we type this, firing upon that mosque was the least we could do.  I sure as hell woulda done the same thing, woulda leveled it.  I'm not saying drop every building where people are firing at you from, but if you know a large percentage of people in there are trying to kill you, do it.  These people fight in such a way there is going to be no way around killing civilians, though we do try to keep the number down as low as we can.  I doubt that if we were at war in our country against some country they would do the same.  As for the question Japan has infront of it right now, i wouldn't leave, in fact I'd send more people there.

Now with the up coming election, kerry doesn't like the war but doesn't come and show a plan on what he would do.  This is not only Kerry, it's everyone who doesn't like it.  Don't say we shouldn't of not gone there, because that time has past, what would he do about it now is the question.  Ok, my slight rant is over.  I respect everyones opinion and this is just mine, take it or leave it.  I'm not trying to change anyones opinion with this, so don't start arguing with me about it.

This is why we need to let war be war. We cannot allow politics play a role in Iraq unless we want to see mass coalition casualties. There is no parallel to draw between Iraq and Vietnam except on the political level. In Vietnam our troops and commanders were fighting a war with their hands tied behind their backs. This was touched on earlier, but it's an important point. The Americans could not level North Vietnam due to the threat of the Chinese and/or Soviets jumping in the ring. We were forced to play by the VC's and NV rules instead and it proved to be a nearly impossible task. In the last few days we are seeing the same problem arising in Iraq. Although I don't see Iraq claiming anywhere close to the 58,000 American lives that Vietnam took, we are certainly heading down the path of an unwinnable war. Common sense strategy tells our commanders to level everything that they even possibly see as a threat, including civilian targets, being our current enemies are civilians, not uniformed troops. The effect would be two-fold. On one hand a greater # of the instigators would be dealt with and secondly, after realizing that the US is showing absolutely no mercy due to their inability to distinguish peaceful Iraqis from disruptive Iraqis, the peaceful citizens will be much quicker to identify the insurgents to coalition troops. But, as in Vietnam, political considerations are keeping Bush and Co. from treating this war as a war and are rather choosing to appease the global community. This past week is becoming the biggest failure of the GWB administration, he is abandoning our troops to improve his chances at reelection. Let em' fight, let war be war, and squash the insurgency asap using an all-out offensive with everything we've got. Each day we wait the further out of control we are, and the further out of control we are the more American blood soaks the sands.

  7. Put Uribe in the lineup, move Rowand to leadoff, move Lee to 2nd in the order.

    New Lineup:

    CF Rowand

    LF Lee

    RF Ordonez

    DH Thomas

    1B Konerko

    SS Valentin

    3B Crede

    C Olivo

    2B Uribe

That's the way to go right there. :headbang

  8. Why? It was yet another example of Sox offense not being able to hit good pitching.    We haven't since early 2000.

Vasquez was good, but not great pitch-quality/location-wise. Sox hitters did a GREAT job jamming themselves, overswinging, etc.

Pagin Greg f***in' Walker.    We were promised Sox hitters would level the swings and would use the whole field this year.....Gimme..

Ummmm, isn't that what makes good pitching, the offense's inability to hit them???

  9. show bad?

6 IP, 3 ER, to the best team in the league.

    I wouldn't call that bad.

I'm with Brando Fan. That was one of the ugliest performances I've seen in awhile to still earn that line... He was constantly behind in the count, granted he was being squeezed a bit, the change wasn't there except when he got Matsui with one, and he had 4 BBs. The defense definitely came up big for Scott. With that said, considering he was pitching opening day at Yankee Stadium, I think he'll be better than many of us expected in the 4 slot.

I'm not worried about the offensive production today. When the Yankees made all their moves in the offseason I never understood why Vazquez was being positioned in the #3 slot. The guy is going to be their ace this year, he's one bad mofo. I think tomorrow will be another tough go for the O, Contreras had like 25Ks in 16IP in ST with barely any runs allowed, not to mention the fact that he embarrassed us last season, 8IP, 0R, like 2H. He'll probably shut us out again. I'm glad we're getting these out of the way now.

  10. Going to be up in Chi-Town to catch the Twinkies game in May. Ordered seats and got SEC 106 Row 18. We wanted bleacher seats so that's cool but I'm wondering if row 18 means 18th row back from the field or if it's like some other stadiums, where the highest # row is closest to the field and row#1 would be closest to the concourse. Any help would be appreciated. It's been awhile since I've been able to get to a game up there.
