  1. I'm officially back in the mindset of even if we are up 5-2 in 6th in this game tonight, we'll lose..... So it's good to be back to feeling like a Sox fan again.

I'm going tomorrow to the game. Took one of those surveys, $10 outfield seats, just going to sit wherever I want. That's about the only positive from this mess. We can enjoy our empty stadium, grilled onions, and whichever superstar is in town to play us. Miggy should be fun to watch go 6-11 in this series!

Not sure how Abreu is worth a ton at this exact moment in time...

And you're building around Eaton, Rodon, Anderson, Fulmer and this year's three top draft picks???

Abreu could go 8-16 over his next 4 games with 3 homers and he'd statistically be back on track.. he'd be batting .285 with 10HR's basically 1/3rd through the season and warm months coming.

That's like saying Shields trade value was diminished becasuse of his last game with SD. Step back and have perspective.

Also, not saying we're building around anybody. I just listed a bunch of players. Doubtful all would be traded. You keep a few who you build around and start from the bottom up.

You basically trade whatever can get you the best haul, and then keep the rest.

It's not crazy to think. We're already almost nothing in this city. The Cubs wearing pajamas on a road trip get more coverage. So if there is anytime to go into hiding and build prospects its now.

Again, I think the Sox are going to go after players still. I see someone like Fulmer going for CarGo. He's signed for another year too. They want players to go after this year to try and push for a weak division. And then again with the same core next year. If at that time they aren't hitting expectations it would be a fire sale all around.

    My opinion.

  3. I think this is a very strategic plan by the Sox to make a push this year and this offseason, and then if things aren't working out, to sell everything off.

Think about it. After this year: And I'm sure some of these contracts aren't correct...

Shields - 2 years left - can be traded at $9mm to a contender for a decent return - nothing great, but something (if he pitches a 3.50-4.50 era)

Lawrie - 1 yr left - can be traded as a high energy, master utility guy for a contender

Abreu - can be traded for a ton

Frazier - one year left - can get a really nice haul

Melky - one year left - can get a solid, solid haul

Robertson - one year left - can get a solid return

Quintana - can bring in a hell of a lot

    Sale - a huge return

Add this years draft, the few other pieces we have in the minors and what we get in return for selling off all of these guys and you are 2-4 years from competing again.

I think this team will push as much as they can this year and this offseason to acquire players that have 1-2 years left on contracts and if its not working they're going to sell, sell, sell and try and build around Tim Anderson and a few other really young pieces and try and use the "Cubs/Astros" approach.

  4. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 08:50 AM)
We just had a huge thread on this that stayed on the 1st page forever . Now that it's gone you want to start another one ?

? Who cares. Would you like to talk about James Shields? I'd rather talk about announcers right now quite frankly.

I like Jason more most of the time but voted for Hawk option. Reasoning being, I like Hawk more during the good times. I feel the same emotions he does when we win or lose. I find myself yelling stretch at the TV. But when watching Jason I am just yelling by myself. Homeruns are a lot less exciting. Plays are a lot less exciting. The game feels a lot more boring.

I realize it's year one, but he could use more inflection on big plays and at big times. He's young, I'm sure he'll figure it out. He doesn't want to be a clone of Hawk, I get it. But a little excitement wouldn't hurt.

  5. Going to purposely avoid watching any of this game so I don't ruin my night. Been using that philosophy for the past few weeks - much more enjoyable.

Scherzer with 10-13K's, probably 3er (prone to a homer), 7ip

    Shields pitches 7 innings, 4-5er.

    Sox lose 6-3

    Also WAS is +100 at 1.5 --- so ... you're welcome.

Wake me up when win a few in a row. Until then I'm going to bury my head. This team is killing me.

Sox record since I bought season tix? 10-21. Brutal. Nothing makes me hate Robin and this team more than after I got convinced they might be in the race all year and then lay an egg.

  6. Hopefully we sign him, grab Carl Crawford on the cheap and then go out and get Jose Conteras to shore up the bullpen. I've also heard that Barry Bonds has been keeping in shape as a hitting coach for the Marlins - he could have some pop left too.

All would be solid moves and could really improve the clubhouse as they've "been there before".

    Do it KW!

  7. So over this 2-10 stretch or whatever it's been I've stayed away from betting against the Sox. I find it fun to gamble, but generally stay away from my own teams because it really takes the fun out of a win if I bet against them.

During this time however I have bet against them twice --- the two NYM wins.

This matchup looks terrible for the Sox, therefore I'm betting the Nats. Get ready for a win tonight Chicago.

  8. I tend to stay away from the board during losing as it makes it even worse. So my quick 2 cents on this subject are:

If you can't win your own division games you are never going to get to the playoffs. Robin has consistently been unable to win within the division. I think he only has a winning record (and by like 2 games over .500) against the lowly Twins.

Sorry, but that right there is a reason to be canned.

Other than that, I think his lineups and management of the team has been pour.

This team needs a kick in the rear. Now, will it be a solution to where we are in the playoffs if he is fired? No. a LH power bat and a reliever will help that. But something has to happen to kick this team into gear. Cutting a manager that is probably going to be fired anyways at the end of the year is a good place to start.

Renteria can run with this team for the rest of the year.

  9. Easy for me to say since it's not my money, however, if we give up better prospects to have them pay $38mm of Shields deal? Boo. Have JR pony up the money for Shields if Hahn can convince him he's good.

Either way, I was an advocate almost all winter (maybe not publicly on this board) but for AJ Griffin, Drew Pomeranz, Rich Hill.

Now, Griffin has had shoulder issues already. But the other two have been decent.

Also was a fan of Ian Desmond for 1 year at 7-12mm.

I just look at this team and what could have been and I get a bit upset. I know we don't have a ton of money, and it's all in hindsight, but just think -- we could have Pomeranz or Hill in our rotation and Desmond in LF, CF, and SS rotating for like $8-15mm total.

It was a buyers market and we did nothing with it.

  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2016 -> 01:33 PM)
Absolutely. The point is that the Cubs new network won't have that. They will need to cut deal with Comcast, Dish, etc to get onto their feeds. As it stands now, CSN is already on. The Cubs will go from being on every outlet in Chicago to none. Even YES isn't available on every network in NY. In places like LA and Houston the carrying numbers are very low. This is the reality the Cubs are going to try to start a new network in. What incentive does a company like Comcast have to cut a deal with the Cubs, when them leaving already hurts the bottom line at CSN? More and more the carriers are sticking to their guns against paying the prices to add these types of networks at an additional cost.

I lived in Houston last year and wanted to watch a fun, young team. Couldn't do it. Cubs are a different beast, just like the Yankees, but I can't imagine a Cubs fan being happy about a Cubs network. It all comes down to money and how much you can drain from your fan base, however I think there is certain mental pushback from fan bases when this happens. How much can you squeeze?

  11. When we're winning the media loves talking about the role of leadership from veterans. Such a fluff piece.

This team has problems all over. I'm back to how I've watched the Sox over the past 3-5 years ... Just waiting for the loss. Waiting for the infield pop up or strikeouts with RISP.

As bad as this stretch is however, it won't be like this all year. All the wins early in the season mean just as much as the losses now - we sit at .500'ish.

Really now though it's the Indians we have to worry aobut. That team is very talented.

  12. Well my first ever game thread got taken out by mother nature. Let's do it again.

Same facts as yesterday. Let's get a Gritty win today.

Side note - who pushes back Sale's start??? Especially during this series. I think Monday is set to be Matt Harvey who is downright brutal this year. I'd rather have Sale on Sunday. But yet again Robin shows us how bad a manager can be.

I'm calling an Abreu explosion still. 2 homers.

    Sox 7, Royals 5

  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 26, 2016 -> 04:54 PM)
    1) The White Sox do have a permanent solution for SS, perhaps the most difficult position to replace externally.

    2) Abreu hasn't gotten going, one woud think that has to change at some point (soon) with the warmer weather

    3) Bullpen hasn't had a chance to develop defined roles, Petricka's been out, etc.

    4) Lawrie and Garcia are due for a hot streak again

    5) There's a lefty pitching, so maybe Rollins can hit another homer

    6) White Sox have financial flexibility this season to make a move

    7) White Sox are still in the heart of the race...whereas fans had mostly given up by this time last year

    8) Attendance is picking up w/ the nicer weather, particularly the Sunday game this past weekend.

    9) Delmonico, Coats and Hayes are all hitting well in AA/AAA.

    10) I could easily name 5-10 flaws for every other contender in the AL Central. Nobody will run away with it, barring something strange or unforeseen happening.

    11) We're getting the toughest part of the schedule out of the way in the first half of the season.

    12) White Sox still "control their own destiny"

    13) Excitement about upcoming draft, will be much more fun to follow than last year's

    14) Danks is gone

    15) Rodon should start finding his groove about right now

    16) Matt Latos and Albers fueled our early start with surprising performances, Gonzalez has, at the very least, kept us in games

    17) Frazier GS in Texas was great moment

    18) Robertson continues to be one of the Top 5-7 closers in baseball

I like the list! I think I Like #10 the most. Every team has flaws. Moustakas being out for the year is gonna be tough for the Royals. Tigers don't have a great team.

Indians are the only one I'm really really afraid of in our division.

  14. I'm not sure the last two posts understand that this is a positivity thread. Especially the "Eaton was bad for 3 games post"

shakes head ....... stay on track! The other 134 threads are for being negative!

Alright, I'll get this ship back on course again..

Chris Sale is probably the front runner for AL Cy Young. We, the White Sox have one of the best pitchers in the game and are paying him peanuts!!

    Fun stuff.

    Another one.

The Sox have two kids in the minors that led their respective leagues in hits. Don't think that happens often.

  15. Alright, my first time ever doing this. I've decided to keep this positive. It's Thursday, almost a holiday weekend, and we got ourselves some baseball to be played tonight to take us there.

On the Mound: Miguel Gonzalez -- our Miggy has been decent, posting a 3.31 ERA over 16 innings. He has had his troubles against the Royals going 0-4 with a 6.00 ERA over his last 4 against KC, but looked decent striking out 8 last time out.

For them we go against Danny Duffy. Last time he only lasted 63 pitches, and probably won't be much above that this time.

Abreu is 7 for 19 lifetime against him and has shown signs of life over the past few days. Calling for a big game from him.

I'll go with a Sox Victory tonight to set the tone for the series...

    Sox 6

    Royals 4

Abreu knocks out 2HR. Go go Sox!

  16. This board can really take you into the gutter sometime. Let's take a step back only post positive things in this thread. Get that good ju ju going.

    Okay I'll start:

Since the beginning of the 2016 year the Sox have posted the following records for each week.

    4-2

    4-1

    4-3

    5-2

    4-2

    3-3

    1-5

2-3** current week with 3 to go

See!! Positive news. We've had ONE losing week thus far. It may seem like the sky is falling currently, but take 2 of 3 and we're .500 for the week.
