Look at the Rangers’ roster back then and how far they were from competing.

    Timing.

Arguably, this was THE trade that kick started everything for their WS run, just like we dealt three assets in their prime for a slew of top prospects that mostly panned out.

Exactly! I don't think anyone has any way to confirm this, but I think the top 3 decision makers for the org all knew exactly when to strike on a high impact mega deal. Maybe that's me being too trusthwory and giving them the benefit of doubt (one last time), but with how good we know this core of Yo, Eloy, Robert, Gio, TA, Kopech, Cease, etc. not just could be, but already is, I think all of them are looking at each other and saying, "yup, it's fucking go time". Anyone who follows this team knows they're SO close to being the very best team in baseball and that there are only a few pieces needed, and nobody knows that more than Rick Hahn, Kenny Williams and Jerry Reinsdorf.

Reinsdorf is the only one that matters though. I have bitched and moaned about Reinsdorf for years. But he's a great businessman and great businessmen are insanely competitive. He knows he's old AF and that he has the best core possible to give it a few more runs at his 8th championship.

I could be WAY wrong here and Graveman could be their biggest signing and we're all furious come march. If that's the case then I will admit defeat and admit that I shouldn't have given Reinsdorf the benefit of the doubt. Again, it's all up to him. I don't think that will be the case though. I think we'll be looking back at this convo and saying, "wow we had a great offseason and Graveman was just the start of it. We really could win the World Series"

    Just my $0.02

They won 93 games because of exactly what I laid out above; they acquired good assets during the rebuild. There is no argument from me there. Hahn, in general, hit a home run on all of those trades and acquisitions (Robert). The rest of it though? Just whatever...

and I love Hendriks, but the guy is a closer. He's the last piece to the puzzle, and honestly the Sox are throwing huge money at relievers because they whiffed on their 1st round RP draft pick, and whiffed on development of their countless young guys coming up as RP's.

I'm as excited as anyone, but my goodness if the water carrying for this ownership group isn't flat out exhausting every single off-season. We've heard this nonsense about the Sox playing with the big boys for three damn years now and the Rays are now lapping them in salary commitments to a single player. The Sox will earn the benefit of the doubt and the belief in these talking-head narratives that "we're gonna be happy and this off-season is different" when they actually prove that to fans ONE time in the entire existence of the organization.

You can google my Twitter handle + Jerry Reinsdorf and see how much I’ve roasted JR over the last decade or so. It’s plenty. I call it as I see it just like you do.

And I think you’re wrong. You’re looking at the Graveman signing incorrectly and retrospectively. The White Sox signed him because they feel like they know how to take his 2021 success and build off it. They don’t feel like they’re “buying high” and hoping for the best. They see a pitcher with high leverage, shut down “shit” that went untapped until 2021 and think they can tap into it even more. Everyone I talked to “in the business” thinks it was a great signing for the Sox. That doesn’t mean it will be, but as it sits now, there’s not a whole lot to nitpick about this move.

That is unless, like I said, they piece mail the rest of the offseason. I’ve been told they won’t but if they do we all have a right to burn it down. Just gotta let the rest of the offseason work itself out

Trust of the process is earned, not given. The Sox, from a signing MLB talent standpoint have been pretty abysmal. If we're being honest with ourselves, this team is only where they are because they were incapable of building around some stars and flipped them for young talent that pretty much all hit - which is a testament to their abilities at the lower levels to identify talent. Their supplementing of this group has been atrocious though and not at all what they promised. They have signed 1 nice asset - Grandal - and had to trade from the youth to acquire the other one (Lynn). Keuchel is a donut, Kimbrel was a shit show, Eaton was a flat out embarrassment, and their scouting of Cesar was amateur hour.

They just won 93 games and would have been on a bee line for 100 if Robert, Eloy, Madrigal, etc. didn't get hurt. They're going to bolster that same team this winter and have the largest payroll in team history by like $50MM+. You didn't mention Hendriks in here and it's only like 3 weeks into the offseason. Let it play out. If they patch work the team together again, then by all means, raise hell. I for sure will be.

But JR, KW, RH and everyone underneath them know exactly what the need and JR/TLR know their biological clocks are ticking. Again, trust the process. I think we're gonna be very happy with the offseason and that come march, the White Sox will be a better team, maybe much better, than they were when they got destroyed by Houston in early October

Don’t blame you. I don’t have that much self control, personally… and being an out of state fan compounds it.

Hear anything regarding the prospect of pulling Tepera back in?

Nada. I have a feeling 3/24 on Graveman set a similar market rate for Tepera and doubt the Sox will go there, as nice as it'd be to bring him back. He's just good. Has the least sexy "shit" on earth but he's just a pitcher who gets outs. I hope I'm wrong but don't see it.

I'll b**** about the Sox paying for guys at their absolute peak value as long as they keep doing it. It will never stop being stupid; just as it was stupid for Kimbrel, it is stupid for Graveman. Find guys before their one breakout campaign, stop signing them after it. Just my thoughts. I'm not a fan of the sustainability of Graveman as a reliever. I could be wrong.

The White Sox are actively looking to sign pitchers like this as we speak, and have in the past. Kahnle immediately comes to mind. They took a flyer on him then flipped him for more than they gave up. Sure, the deal didn't work out as Rutherford has stunk (for lack of a better word) but at the time it looked like a good deal for a former 1st round pick that still was somewhat highly thought of.

Someone like a Keynan Middleton comes to mind. Big fastball, wipe out slider, nasty changeup, big spin rates, but ZERO established success. Free agent and has high leverage "shit" without a high leverage brain yet because he's still raw, even at 27 years old. Someone like him is the sort of pitcher Katz would be trusted to work his magic on and guess what? He'll be CHEAP but if all clicks, could provide big dividends.

Not saying they're signing him, saying they're gonna sign a pitcher or two like him. A lot of you are probably thinking, "who?" and then will be like "oh shit this guy has big time stuff" when you see him pitch at Camelback in the spring

I know it ain't easy being a sox fan and every one of us are scarred to some extent, but a lot of you gotta trust the process.

  6. Who cares if cases have gone up? Almost 70% of seniors 65 and older have been vaccinated in IL. Almost 60% of COVID deaths have come from 65+ and they represent about 11-12% of the entire population. Who cares if a bunch of 20 years olds are getting it? It isn't a big deal for kids that age. We are turning this virus into "just the flu" and doing it swiftly with the vaccinations. Just gotta keep getting as many shots in arms as possible

"It’s hard to ignore one White Sox source’s penchant for rewarding a racist and sexist media outlet, so let’s just say that multiple sources are revealing that Ethan Katz, assistant pitching coach for the San Francisco Giants, will take over for Don Cooper as pitching coach in Chicago."

I'm assuming the author was taking a shot at Barstool with the comments. Not sure what hating on barstool has to do with Dave. Unless the author doesn't like him as well.

Honestly wouldn't care if he didn't like me. Plenty of people on the internet who don't and I'm an idiot who gives people reason to feel that way by my rhetoric online sometimes. I def think it's unfair unless you've met me in person, but it is what it is. That said the whole tired act of "barstool is racist and sexist" is so goddamn stupid. Ask the many people of color or our CEO, CMO and CFO if they think barstool is racist or sexist. Then on the flip side, google some of the horror stories of shit that has gone on ESPN. Nobody says a peep about them being racist or homophobic

It just annoys me to no end. Fuck off

  8. This is how I see it breaking down next year. My guess is Mookie gets 10 years at $350-370MM.  Takes him through his age 39 season

    Padres maybe (probably not)
    Angels out
    Cubs maybeeeee (probably out)
    Red Sox, Yankees out
Dodgers in (Friedman has done a masterful job managing their payroll)
    Rangers out
    Phillies out
    Astros out
    Braves maybe?
    Nats out
    Twins out
    Mets (should be, but out)
    Giants maybe?
    A's, Rays no
    Dbacks no

Those are all of the 1.) big market teams and 2.) competitive teams seemingly in a spot to make a push for major signing in 2020-21 offseason.  There are only a handful of teams that make sense in terms of window and money who will be all over Betts IMO.  So...

... The White Sox *should* be ALL OVER him.  He's a perfect fit for their roster in every single way.  We've all seen that movie before though, so I'm not gonna hold my breath.

I think they prioritize extending Moncada before signing Betts as well.

I think you and just about everyone else feels that way. That deal has had me pissed off all day so I’m hoping something else gets done that we can feel somewhat excited about

I legit have been in a bad mood ALL DAY because of it.  If he's getting 500 PAs next year I'll vomit

    @wsd - you got called out homie. 😆 🤜🤛

Idk how I was called out?  I should have never said anything like that, I replied directly to someone I'm friendly with on twitter who's probably the most rational Red Sox fan I've ever spoken with and he really knows his shit.  I truly didn't think anyone would see that since he has no following and I replied directly to him , which was dumb of me in retrospect.

Look man, I have nothing against you, but when you say “There are a few names I know they've been working on that people have no idea on.  Not gonna say who, I'll let you all speculate amongst yourselves.” as a humble brag and then proceed to stay secretive when people ask for details, you’re just opening yourself up for criticism.

Only reason I ventured over here is because someone DM'd me the post I quoted.  I can handle criticism from internet strangers, I deal with it regularly.

And if I'm wrong on Ozuna, that's fine.  I almost hope I am, he can swing the stick.  If I'm wrong and the Sox improve, more than okay with me.  Just wish he didn't suck defensively (I don't care what his metrics say, he's awful)

I only browse Reddit for Baseball and NFL stuff since the rest of the website is a cancerous safe space echo chamber.

With that being said, at least on that website, Barstool might as well be The Daily Stormer.  Some people don't like it because it's somehow "Right wing sports media", whatever the fuck that means.

Which is hilarious considering like 90%+ of the people at barstool are very liberal

And no, I'm not gonna post anything on a free forum.  Sorry.  Just let the offseason play out, it's looking like it's going to move much faster this winter, which is good for the sanity of all of us

He knows absolutely nothing. Unfollow anything from barstool, it is a joke.

I love getting these type of posts sent to me.... Holy hell.  Relax man, the internet is a big place, there's a reason I don't sit on jezebel all day.  People can pick and choose the content they consume.  Whether you like me/barstool or not, it's wildly successful so calling it a "joke" is incorrect.

I wouldn't say I know "nothing" either, I'd say I know much more than the typical fan.  With Wheeler/Grandal the organization played everything as close to the vest as possible, as they should.  They're operating in stealth mode.  There are a few names I know they've been working on that people have no idea on.  Not gonna say who, I'll let you all speculate amongst yourselves.

As for Ozuna, like Heyman said, I was told there isn't an agreement in place.  Take that as you will.  I don't think I'm wrong, but never say never.  Wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong, if I am.

Last offseason should be a textbook of what not to do when negotiating huge contracts.  They basically convinced the Padres to jump in by publicizing their low-ball offer and were overly cocky for no apparent reason.

This is the opposite of true.  That leak did not come from the White Sox and nobody knows who gave that figure to Levine
