Yes. I saw him pitch at Birmingham once.
Not sure what that has to do with the learning at the MLB level. This isn't isolated to Kopech. All MiLB pitchers needs to learn how to pitch to MLB hitters. Just as all MiLB hitters need to learn MLB pitching. There is a learning curve going from the minors to the MLB. That's why most struggle early on. Some handle it better than others.
I saw him at the start of 2018, pitch in Indy at AAA. He looked pretty bored on the mound. I think it would be a huge step back, keeping him in the minors more than the control of the 1yr they get back. He needs to be challenged.

Because there is a learning curve in the MLB against MLB hitters. He can learn some about control but not enough. It's not about mistakes getting crushed. It more about what pitches the MiLB hitters swing at that MLB hitters dont.
Have you seen him pitch live in the minors?

Luis Gonzalez is a guy that I am looking forward to watching this year. I think he'll have a big 2020.
He will be 25yrs old in September. We are kinda past the prospect stage and headed into the realm of 4A player.

Does this start the fire sale in Cleveland?

Yes, but they also have offered Bryant long term contracts. I think their payroll issue is probably Heyward.

A Bryant/Arenado trade makes absolutely no sense for both sides.
Well, Bryant would lower the Rockies payroll over time, and a more possible asset to trade at a deadline. NA, would give the Cubs a longer term asset.

I think the question becomes what does a reasonable extension look like for Moncada. 6-98 Million. Grabbing 2 more years of control, cost certainty but paying more in the beginning of the contract. This would make Moncada a free agent at 30 which would still allow him for another pay day. I can't see an agent letting him extend past 30.
2020-6 Million
2021- 8 Million
2022- 14 million
2023- 20 Million
2024- 25 Million
2025- 25 Million
Probably the Bregman contract as a comparison.

Benyamin Bailey will be a future allstar. You can get the house on it.
Was this guy some type of phenom before the Sox signed him?

You're right about Pratto, but I looked at the 6 guys drafted right after Burger, and the other 5 look like great prospects. I admit I am just a Monday QB here, just second guessing the pick, but it is still a lousy pick. I can't remember who I wanted back in June, 2017; it was probably someone taken before Burger. Still, it was a terrible draft choice.
Kinda smells like the Fulmer pick.

Pelvic thrusting.

I think, they thought, it was the best bat on the board. But the problem was, he is unathletic playing 3B. At best, I think it was a switch to 1B or DH, but did you really need to draft that?

There's just no spot for him. And he's a near 24 year old who topped out at Kanny two years ago. If he ever makes it to the bigs, it'll be a minor miracle. Unless it's for us- in which case, something terrible happened.
If this is something he still wants, trade him. For his good and ours.
It's not about that. He was suppose to be playing last year, and he never did. I don't think he is healthy, and by the time he is, his progression through the minors, he is gonna be like 26yrs old. He is probably Palka at best, if he gets healthy.

I predict, I am gonna say it like I mean it..... I predict, Jake Burger is done with baseball.

The third base writeup was so good
Gotta be the weakest position in the minors. I had hope, Bryce Bush would be something, and then he moved to the OF.

Jesus, haven't been since it was at the Hyatt.

The White Sox have never been the type of organization to just throw away $15 million per season and not face the consequences of said misallocation of resources.
I don't think it was a bad deal. I just don't think Vaughn is a lock to do anything.

Assuming the Sox are done with major off-season aquisitions I'd like to see grades for each individual move.
Abreu extension: C-
I don't hate Jose Abreu but I thought the QO was exactly what he should have got and ended with. I'm not a fan of essentially giving him a 3 year deal which will include his age 34 and 35 seasons in the heart of contention. With Vaughn likely up in 2021, Abreu's extension locks him in as our DH as he ages, instead of leaving some roster flexibility for a more impactful bat.
I am not sure why you think Vaughn is an automatic lock to be a star? There is no downside to the Jose extension, the payroll is low enough that if Jose is not good in a year or 2, he can sit the bench.

Madrigal finishes in the top 3 OBP on Sox next season, that's my prediction. I hope our players learn how to walk, we were last in the entire MLB in walks at 378.
It is gonna be all hits and no walks. I won't complain about a 200 hit season, but he swings at EVERYTHING.

I believe the Sox are going to shock me on the level of a Mookie Betts type deal.
Nothing they've done yet is going to get those phones ringing in the ticket office.
Reinsdorf is going to have to do more than provide the base with the allure of a green oasis where there's only sand.
I think the only problem with that is, giving him the money.

I think I'll take the over on Eloy. He's going to be a monster. The whole lineup offers protection for each other.
Have you seen him field? I take the over IF he DHs. He is gonna have 2-3 DL stints.

That’s not apples to apples. You’re talking about giving some 200 ABs and a taste of big leagues and an off season to work on kinks vs calling up someone early by a month at the start of the season. How many wins less would Sox have last year if Eloy started the first month in the minors? 1,2? If that.
It is about development, if you are rebuilding. Not holding talent back to save a buck. They did it will Robert too, he was ready at the end of the season to come up. I would argue Madrigal was as well.

Starting them off in the minors for the first month or so does not prevent Sox from competing.
It kinda does. Eloy was offered a contract at the end of 2018 season, and he balked, so the Sox kept him down. What would of happened to him this past season, if he would of had 100-200 ABs in 2018?

They’re not mutually exclusive. You can be competitive and financially cautious (as related to team control) at same time.
You can not have a $100M payroll, and be competing year in and year out.

Cease’s issues actually started in AAA, where his WHIP, BB% and BAA are all similar to his 70+ innings of work at MLB, so it is not as if he doesn’t have anything to work on at AAA either. If he throws another 50 innings and shows no progression at all, I’m fine with sending him back down to work on his game for a few months and call him back up when there is an opening.
The Sox are not competing this year, he can figure it out at the major league level.

I think it is until like mid april or may when they get the control back.
