When your employer just wants to employ yes-men and yes-women and there's no pressure on you as long as you tell them the person above you is great, the job is great until the employer goes out of business.

Name one private company where an employee has sayso over the owner of a company?

This deal reaks of boras. 330 mil with no opt outs and no trades, 330 million guaranteed, and Harper gets his money regardless. Meanwhile the Phillies will be stuck with an aging player once he's past his prime, even if the aav is pretty low for an all star.

Yes he won't be the same at age 26 as he will be at 39, but at an avg of $25m a year, you could he saving up front and just consider his later years as "deferred" even though his contract may not have a true deferral in it. I think both sides won in this.

  3. I do think it is entirely plausible that the Sox leaked the 175m offer only to get another team involved. That being said though, why waste $40m this off season if it was never their intent to sign Machado? For that reason alone I feel that it wasn't the Sox who leaked that offer.

Here is the real thing to think about. Unlike the Hawks when  Bill Wirtz died, a Rocky Wirtz and a new thought process isn't here to rescue us.  It will be Michael Reinsdorf as a managing partner like his father who will be more of the same.  The families are not going to sell.  This is a slush fund.  Who cares if no one shows up.  It helps with rent if that continues.  It's not like that destroys their profits.  MLB monies arrive and the checks clear for the ownership group.   A nice lockout or strike during the next CBA might piss the casual fan off, but if it protects the kitty its worth it.

When JR goes, his share will be sold. Michael has already said he doesnt want it.

Sadly, I see this team becoming the Portland White Sox.
