And now you've created a setup that can leave negotiations at a stalemate for a month and a half.

Again, why negotiate against yourself? A month from now when he's still out a job, that $40m sitting in front of him looks better and better.

Im also on the record of saying they need to put pressure on him by reducing his offer everyday.

  2. What prohibits the Sox from front loading a contract? Let's say they do go out and get both. Heck, even one of them and pay them both $40m this year and next, knocking $80m off each players contracts. This would lower their cost in 2021 by roughly $4m per year in team obligations per player.

  3. Players complaining that the market isn't right because both Manny and Bryce aren't signed are short sighted. A team that has never offered a contract above $68m has offered a contract worth at least $100m more. Why aren't players commenting on that?

I’ve been saying that the Sox should at least be engaging with Harpers people publicly to gain leverage in the Manny negotiations. They can use that. Tell Manny they only have room to sign one and they are getting closer with Harper. They kind of blew the opportunity to do that when they signed all of Mannys boys to show their commitment to him.

I believe that Hahn telling the media they won't land both is him getting ready to leverage this. I wouldn't be shocked if we learn that Harper and Sox have a meeting coming up should Manny not sign soon.

So run the risk of completely pissing off Lozano? There’s no way that works. If the Sox pull their offer, I have no doubt they are out on Machado. He’ll end up somewhere else.

Can't argue these points as they are both valid but at the end of the day, it is Manny who will make the decision where he plays, not Lozano. If Lozano fails to convey to Manny that he has the best offer on the table and he needs ti take it, then that's on him.

  6. No other official offers are on the table, right?

Time to apply some pressure. Pull back the original offer and send over a lower one. Every day lower your total contract price by a million dollars. Will I be happy to land Machado? Absolutely. But I'll also be okay if we don't land him.

I think Manny's post season is an easy scapegoat for an owner who just doesn't want to pony up what he's really worth. Manny Machado for 10 yrs 300 million and everything less than that is fair in my opinion.

Just because a few players have massive contracts doesn't mean that any player is worth that amount. Also, every team that signed those players have all been handicapped and regretted signing those high contracts, except maybe the Angles, who I have yet to hear or see anything publically that they regret it or have looked to trade him. Doesn't mean they don't though because look at his lack of production recently.

Interestingly enough, the Angles were a mystery team for Pujols.
