  1. Isn't it hypocritical that you criticize other people for picking on you and calling you names, and you refer to them as "idiots" and "goofs" in the very same post?

Coming from the guy who sent me threatening emails - I'll let that one go.

  2. Exactly.  If you guys KNOW the season's over, why are you still here?  Answer that one...

Look, I am not saying I KNOW the Sox are done, like some sort of seer of the future with a crystal ball. I'm saying that after looking at the Sox as they're made up and looking at the Twins, my prediction is that they're done. That doesn't mean that I don't HOPE they win the division by some sort of miracle.

That's why I'm still here. I'm hoping for a miracle - or at least ONE of you guys will say something other than "I'm a real Sox fan and therefore I think they'll win it forever" that would make me believe that the Sox will win.

  3. This team is so f***ing lost right now

With the way it looks, the Twins could play .300 baseball the rest of the year and still win the division easily, if this was last year.

Our offense sucks ass, and everyone on god's green earth knows this...so KW goes out and gets us a f***ing pitcher.  How the hell is that going to help us KW?

We need a bat via waivers badly within the next 3 days...Bautista, Cruz Jr, Burnitz, Delgado, Beltran, whoever the hell.  We need another f***ing bat.

Yeah those guys will clear waivers

If the Cubs managed to get Garciaparra for Gonzalez and Beltran, don't you think the Sox could have gotten him for ELo and Valentin? Jim Hendry and KW shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence.

  4. And you're happy to be right on this?  Some Sox fan you are....

I'm so sick and tired of the idiots who keep picking on those of us who have been right all along. That stupid IN or OUT thread was the start of it. Making lists of people who thought the Sox were out of the playoffs and then everybody else calling them all kinds of assinine names and telling them to shut up.

This crap about how anybody who thinks the Sox are out of the playoffs is not a real Sox fan and should leave the board and shut up really pisses me off.

As it turns out, those of us who thought that KW did a crap job of putting this team together in the first place and then with the loss of their 2 best hitters knew this team couldn't win the division certainly look smarter than the rest of you goofs.

  5. Nomar Garciaparra is hitting .333 on the road this year, and .309 at home.  That's what they said on ESPN 1000 earlier today, anyway. :huh

Now, who told you that he couldn't hit outside of Fenway?  The guy is a hitting machine, no matter where you put him.

    Agreed.

Cubs clinch wild card with this deal and, in my opinion, should now be the favorites for the World Series.

It shows the difference between a GM who knows what he's doing and one (KW) who doesn't have a clue.

  6. This is why we made the move...

    Esteban's W-L and ERA since June 1 - 3-2 6.04

    Contreras's W-L and ERA since June 1 - 6-3 5.01

The ERA is not nearly as good, but it is an entire run lower, which is worth something.

That and the fact that he actually has better stuff then Esteban.

    I love the move.

No, that's not why he made the move.

He made the move for 2005 and 2006.

This year it's a negative for the Sox. Probably Loaiza would have been better if KW was just thinking about this year.

  7. Factor out the six (or is it seven) game losing streak, and we're 9-9 or 9-8.

I'd call that a bad week;)

Um, factor out the 4 game winning streak against Cleveland and Detroit and I'd call it a really bad month.

Sorry - you just can't "factor out" a 6 game losing streak against 2 of your 3 main rivals in the division. I know it makes you feel better, but it's illogical.

  8. It's been a roller coaster month, let's just close it out with a win, and move on.

One thing that someone else said really hits home.  They need to RELAX and go play.  Seems like the silly mistakes is from pressing too hard.  Go play, have fun, and let the chips fall where they may.

They clearly are not having fun, and I think that's the problem more then anything else.

Oh my God - I've seen it all.

The reason these multimillionaire major league ball players are playing poorly is either that:

    1. They're not awake enough.

    2. They're not having enough fun.

Could it possibly be lack of talent? Could it just be that the opposition is better?

Are you people serious? Otherwise put it in green.

  9. With few moves that make sense for the Sox at the trade deadline and the prospects looking very slim about any additions, I still expect the sox to wake up.

The remaining players know it's all on them to replace Maggs and Frank [hitters as well as pitchers need to step up]. This alone should wake the Sox up from their lethargic July. The prospect that some big bat will come and bail them out will no longer be an option weighing in the back of their minds. They must step up and come together as a team to get to the playoffs.

Guys like PK, Lee, Jose and Crede have been in Maggs and Frank's shadow their entire careers. They struggled in the Twins series when it counted. I for one think more than one of these guys will learn from this July lesson and turn it on the next two months.

With the horrendous July behind them, the Sox should look more like a real major league team when the bats wake up. Starting tonight, the bats will awaken. There will be no more excuses, or waiting on a savior. Small ball, timely hitting w/ RISP, homeruns with a runner or two on base, solid pitching to keep the team in games, working counts, good defense, will be the norm rather than the exception.

    Go Sox!

You can't honestly believe that the reason the Sox have played poorly is because they haven't woken up in July.

You can't honestly believe that they'll suddenly come to their senses and say to themselves "Self, I didn't realize until now that I really need to try harder. Holy cow, self, it's July 31 and I just played the last month asleep but now I realize that I should wake up and play better".

    Please. rolleyeyes.gif

  10. But KW should've had the awareness to predict injuries that happen in the future.

I know you put that in green, but how hard is it to predict that Everett would be injured sooner or later. He was injured most of this year and he's certainly nearing the end of his career. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

If the Sox hadn't picked this guy up, he'd still be sitting in Montreal on Sunday because of his high injury risk.

There's Minny's upcoming schedule. Now, in all honesty, do you think the Sox can continue to beat themselves by not executing? It'd be a joke if this type of non-execution continued for 2 more months. The Sox are better than this, and once they realize it, Minny has another thing coming.

In all honesty, last night was a perfect example why the SOS is not that important if your team is down 4 games and playing like s***.

The Sox lose 2 in a row to the lowly Tigers and Minnesota gets beat - and the Sox lose a half game. The only way the SOS helps is if your team beats the easy teams. And right now the Sox couldn't beat the Rockford Peaches.

  12. Well - it's hard to sign a guy when you don't have any money.  JR was telling Kenny he actually needed to decrease payroll by a couple million, so if you want to blame someone, blame JR.

We'll get off YOUR ass, when you get off Kenny's ass...  ;)

Both KW and Jerry said that money was not an issue.

The issue is that the team is basically done and KW and Jerry know it. There is no point in throwing good money after bad. Nothing on the market would make this team any more likely to win this division or the wild card, so Kenny should just stand pat or possibly look to dump ELo or Valentin for young talent. Hopefully, Maggs or Frank will come back and the Twins will somehow miraculously collapse.

They key was the series against Minnesota. As much as many of you "IN" guys didn't want to believe it, it didn't matter how many games were left, strength of schedule or Carl Everett. That critical series determined whether KW would go for broke or back out. He's backed out. And he's right.

  13. 10 games.....yes, not 5 or 6 no f***ing way.  We've seen how hot this team can get.  I'm nowhere near giving up and I sure as hell know KW isn't either.

When have you seen how hot this team can get? This team is a team without their 2 best hitters. This team has never been hot, only very cold.

KW has to make the best decision for this year first but he also has to consider the next few years. I don't think he should do a "white flag" type trade but I don't think he should spend any more talent or money on this team either. Also, if the right offer came along for ELo (young, special talent) I'd take it.

  14. This team isn't doing anything right. They look like s*** they play like s***. Its a joke that we can't put more than 2 runs on the board against the Tigers. With all this said lets not forget that there are still 63 games left to play. Anything can happen and its looks bad right now, but I we will know where this team is going by the trade deadline. if we make a move we are probably goinmg for it this year and if not then e are definatley playing for next year. Without our 3 and 4 hitters its going to be tough to put runs up. The only thing to take comfort in is the schedule

  15. Regarding whether or not it was a cheap hit by Hunter, I think David Justice expressed a viewpoint that has not been mentioned here.  He refered to a play where Joe Girardi suckered him by making him think the plate was open, then slid his leg in at the last second to block it.  Burke was standing in front of the plate receiving the ball, Hunter saw this and reacted, and did so in a split second.  Burke could have tried to pull the same thing on Hunter that Girardi did on Justice.  Hunter eliminated that possibility.  I do not think it was a cheap shot in any way, shape or form.  It was hardnosed, do whatever it takes, baseball.  The type of baseball the White Sox better start playing if they want to beat these SOB's.

:notworthy Couldn't have said it better myself.

  16. Oz is sick of seeing him suck.

Jose V. has produced big time in some clutch situations, so

he's not a front runner regarding Jose who has proven

    he can play the game.

I want Uribe to succeed, but it looks like he is what Oz

    says he is ... utility.

As I said a month ago (and got hammered for it) this was another bad KW move. Failing to recognize the potential of Aaron Miles and trading him for Uribe was a mistake. Alot of posters said that the fact that Uribe could play 3 positions made this a good move, but if the guy can't hit, I don't care if he can pitch and catch at the same time. I'd much rather have Miles at 2nd and leading off full time right now than Uribe on the bench.

  17. Ok well I said i was gonna take a break from this board but I just cant.....its too hard not to look.....There is too much negativity on this page.....i also felt this right after the game today but as time passed my mind made amends that we cant throw out the white flag yet.....we got plenty of time and schdueles in our favor.....the white flag comes out if the tigers pass us in the standings

No white flag...just don't throw good money after bad.

If the SOS gets the Sox in front - that's great. I honestly don't think that's going to happen unless Frank and/or Maggs make a miraculous recovery and get themselves in playing shape in a hurry. At this point, the Sox should just stand pat and hope for a miracle. :)

  18. As a new member to the site I can appreciate the optimism of many posters. However, I think we need to take a little time to stop making cute images of Sox players on the computer and start watching whats happening to this club. How about a little history lesson from a die hard fan who has had his guts ripped out by this club for over 20 years (including the awesome playoff run of 2000...swept in the same dead ass fashion as we have showed vs the Twins when it counts.)

Who has won the division the last three years with what are supposedly less talented players?? Who has won the big game head to head down the stretch when it counts?? Who took the division at our place last September?? Say what you will but every year we look like world beaters on paper, but when it comes down to the wire we burn like the very paper the supposedly vaunted line-up is printed on. The fact is that when it counts the Twins flat out get it done.

I love this team, in fact took off a bit early from work yesterday and Monday to attend the games and cheer on the club. And what happend? In front of two sell out crowds we fall flat on our asses. I was at the games last September as well...and I am sick of watching this team not show up in big games. Mags and Frank are out...too bad. Hey, we came back vs the Tigers last week...big f-ing deal, they suck. There are no asterisks in the standings, no what-if points, just wins and losses.

The bottom line is that the team as it is presently constituted can not win. They cannot win the big game, they cannot get the big hit, and they cannot win in the playoffs. I know there are 64 games left vs a weak schedule and the Twins play a tougher one, but they come to the Cell again in September and I see nothing from this ballclub that convinces me the outcome will be any different than last year. I have no desire to see this team slip into the playoffs only to get swept while scoring a total of 4 runs in three games. The goal is to "win the whole f-ing thing" to quote Lou Brown, and if you think this team can do that you have been staring at the monitor in your parents basement for too long.

It is my sincere hope that we do make a run sometime in the future, make a run with a club that has some heart and the horses to give this city and this teams fans what they deserve...a champion.

    Nice post.

It's nice to hear somebody who wants the Sox to win really bad but knows the situation they're in right now. Don't let some of the posters here get you down. It's OK to have an opinion that makes sense and is accurate and not just wishful thinking without any sense of reality.
