  1. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:24 PM) Trade Thread 4 kicks off with this rumor regarding A.J Burnett; I hope we stay far, far away from Burnett. He has been in the league as long as K. Wood has (7 years) and hasn't started as many games as the often injured N. Side "Ace" (What do ya'll use for sarcasm). Stats: 763.1- IP--------------1094.0 42-49 -W/L------------70-52 3.80 - ERA-------------3.67 .230 - AVG against----.216 Burnett is on the left. Wood is on the right. If you can't pitch better than Wood then I don't want you. And if I remember right Burnett didn't pitch in the '03 post season so he dosn't even have "post season experience" that we need.
  2. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) If the prospect's going to be ready soon, and is going to contribute for a long time, over a pitcher who's not going to be back after this season, than yes I'd say there's a reason. Could open the door for someone like Jeff Bajenaru as well. FWIW Santos had splits of .282/.332/.461 in AA last season. How soon? Soon as in now? or soon as in next season? Personally I hope that no starters are traded for prospects right now. However, if Bajenaru is ready then it changes everything.
  3. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 09:39 AM) Ok my guess is that it's going to be the Arizona Diamondbacks. Unfortunately we won't be getting Conor Jackson or Carlos Quentin though, but if we can get a high - level prospect for Shingo, hell yeah we should do it. It means Viz and Jenks are probably here to stay for good as well. Is there a reason to trade an MLB ready pitcher for a prospect this season?
  4. This guys sends a thank you note and everyone is ready to declare him king. Wow. JR is the best owner a Chicago franchise has had because of his dumb luck of buying the Bulls that had MJ on it. Being the best owner in Chicago is like being the tallest midget. How about some quotes from JR? "This is Cubs town and always has been." Being from the city he knows better than that. That is just an excuse because he refused to own up to the fact that he did nothing to help take back the city that previous SOX owners managed to give away to the Cubs. "Anyone who thinks we can catch Cleveland is crazy" Four games at the trade deadline sure is insurmountable... (what do ya'll use for sarcasm around here?) I could go on but why bother? You guys understand my distrust of the man. The greatest basketball player of all time said this: "What went on between Jerry Krause, Jerry Reinsdorf, and me during the 1985 - 86 season was something I never got over. It gave me a very clear view of Krause and Reinsdorf. And they didn’t have a true appreciation for the game. They made business decisions and basketball just happened to be the business. They were businessmen. They were not sportsmen." – Michael Jordan to Mark Vancil. From the book ‘For The Love Of The Game’ by Michael Jordan, Edited by Mark Vancil. Pg. 28.Published 1998. Black Jack said this about him: "Fans don’t know this, but not only was I never offered a multi year contract, I was never even offered a one year deal! The Sox just automatically took me right to arbitration three years in a row" I also have a problem with how he handled Fisk's departure. Honoring him with his own day at Sox Park and then cutting him on a road trip a few days later. Then Fisk wasn't even allowed to go into locker room before the Sox playoff game to wish them good luck. JR has done many things that make me think ill of him. A thank you not is not going to make me forget such things. A championship will help but I doubt I will ever forget threatening to move the team unless he got a new Park.
  5. You forgot to F him for 97. F him for MJ. F him for Phil Jackson as well but we were just talking baseball. I digress. I am still waiting on that 1st class organization that he promised.
  6. QUOTE(wallyburger @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 02:25 PM) I am all for bringing Joe up. Timo be gone. With Ozzie's penchant for resting players, Joe can be used in spot starts and late innings. Never could figure out why they haven't worked him out at first some. If he is going to wallow in the minors, what is the point of saving him. Make him the 4th outfielder and give him some confidence. Timo is so weak. It is time for Joe. Actually Timo is hot right now and The Oz is very impressed with him, so much so that they don't want to bring up Gload because they would have to drop Timo. They can't drop Harris because Crede has a couple of herniated disks that he is going to try and play through the rest of the season with. Fact is, Timo and Harris can play the OF where as Gload cannot. The only thing Gload would be good for right now is to relieve PK. Personally I don't mind seeing Timo/Dye playing first every so often to give PK a break. JIMH, I agree with you on Anderson. Sadly, it is time to forget about the Borchard that never was and focus on Anderson. He is a stud. Scouts say he is ready to play everyday in the MLB right now. Next year could feature Anderson/Pods/Rowand with Dye at first and PK gone. Anyone know how pure of a CF Anderson is?
  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 09:29 AM) The point is that if KW and the scouting dept thinks he could help the team, then why the hell not? Last year was last year. Randy Johnson was Cy Young quality. This year he's not even close. Based on last year, would you have predicted Brian Roberts leading the AL in BA at the break? Last year was last year and the year before and the year before etc... I don't know how bringing him up would be an improvement on the quality of game they are playing or the chemistry or anything that would even remotely make sense. I like Borchard personally. I watched him play a couple years ago against the Norfolk Tides. It was the first game after he was sent down and he played hard, had a smile on his face the whole game and I could see him in the dugout rooting on his team. He was really into the game. That speaks volumes about him as a person but unfortunately he sucks as a MLB player.
