  1. I'm all for signing Iguchi at 6M/2yrs, but for those who think that he is going to be our 2b of the future please let him have at least a few major league AB's before sending him to Cooperstown. Below average players have gone over to Japan and dominated, such as perenial all-star Tuffy Rhodes (mlb career .236 BA). If you take away Iguchi's last 2 years, he is mediocre, even in Japan. You don't just wake up one day and learn how to play.
  2. I think that at 6M/2yrs the reward absolutely outweighs the risk. KW should not haggle over a few hundred thousand dollars. Get the deal done while the scrubbies are still having their little convention.
  3. Iguchi's people are asking for Kaz Matsui money (20M/3yrs) That is why KW has backed off. I think that he is waiting for them to realize that if he wants to play in the mlb we may be his only shot.
  4. Gambling at 10-12M/3yrs would be a calculated risk, but at 20-21M/3yrs would be suicide if he flopped, especially in the Sox budget.
  5. Why not eliminate some of the risk for the Sox, give him a base salary similar to what he would make in Japan and load the deal w/ incentives that, if met, would push him closer to where his side was looking. Seems to me that he needs to prove himself as a viable major leaguer anyways, so if he believes in his ability the incentives shouldn't be a problem.
  6. I would have rather re-signed Valentin than go after Gonzales. At least Valentin is clutch.
  7. I would think that the only reason the Marlins would need to get rid of Castillo is if they end up signing Delgado. Then they may need to clear up some room. I would love to have Castillo, but it would be hard to give up Marte. Dominating lefty set-up men don't exactly fall from trees.
