  1. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 09:32 AM) Talking about returning a lot of players, can anyone guess which team this is... 1) They just won 10 games. 2) They return their top 3 RBs, top 4 WRs, and all 5 O-lineman. 3) They do, however, lose the QB who was a 3 1/2 year starter for them. 4) On defense, they lose their two starting DE's. However, those two guys coupled for the lowest sack total for both DE's in years for this program. 5 sacks and 12.5 TFL combined for both starting DE's. The top backup DE had 4 sacks and 12 TFL by himself. 5) They return their top 3 DTs. 6) They return their 1st team all-conference MLB as well as their 2nd team all-conference WILL. 7) They lose their SAM, but he was the "3rd" LB of the corps this year. Easily replaceable with a former 5-star, Sophomore-to-be waiting in the wings for next year. 8) They lose one of their starting Safeties, but return every other DB that got ample PT. Both starting (freshman) CBs, the nickle back, and the dime back. Also, a starting Safety from a year ago is said to be re-applying for admission to the school, and it's believed he'll be back on the team. 9) They also return their kicker and punter (both were named 2nd team all-conference). Pretty stacked team, eh? Yep, it's Tennessee. Of the 24 starters, they only lose 6, most of which will be replaced by better players next year. The SEC East is gonna be so stacked next year. Don't forget to add they lose the only OC they have won with in the past decade along with 2-3 other offensive coaches.
  2. QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 09:49 PM) Forgot the Orange Bowl was on. Why do they wait so long for the title game Monday? Because it is played in the same city/stadium as one of the games the week before. Need time for all the fans, media, etc. of the first game to vacate all the hotels so the ones for the Championship can come in. Basically makes it two separate events for the host city.
  3. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 10:29 PM) is he bringing his staff with?? Much of it, yes. OC, DC (most likely, not yet definite), CB/Recruiting Coordinator, S and one other, I think. Might be off one or two, but I think he is bringing 5 or 6 plus his S&C Coordinator.
  4. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 11:17 PM) The closeness of BCS games has nothing to do with determining the national champion, or really, the 1v2 game. Exactly. People too often forget or don't know that the sole purpose of creating the BCS was to provide #1 against #2. The rest of the BCS matchups are determined by a combination or rules they created out of "fairness", old bowl tie-ins and money. The bowls themselves actually choose from eligible at large teams to match up with the automatic conference tie-ins.
  5. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 08:00 PM) Is the BCS obligated to take the Big Ten runnerup? I don't know for sure. Either way, Missouri deserved to be in the BCS over at least three teams. No, but the BCS can only accept two teams from any conference, so Mizzou lost out to KU. Like it or not, the rule has stood for awhile. Wisconsin, ranked #5 last year didn't get in. Whether it is fair or not, it is what it is, so Mizzou was only eligible in the place of Kansas, not in addition to.
  6. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 09:48 AM) Yeah -- that's the height of arrogance, saying that the Vegas spread was right. I don't think it's delusional to think that Iliinois could have avoided coughing up the ball a couple of times. But, hey I'll give you what you want: Illinois was embarrassed completely. They shouldn't have been anywhere near a BCS bowl. That they were there and not Missouri is a travesty. Missouri would have had an excellent chance of beating USC. Everyone feel better now? Problem with your argument is that Illinois was not there instead of Missouri. Mizzou not being in the BCS had NOTHING to do with Illinois. The only way Missouri could have gotten in is to be picked instead of Kansas.
  7. Did I mention that I absolutely HATE the fact that Fox has the contract to broadcast the BCS games????
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 1, 2008 -> 08:55 PM) I almost took my new TV back because of the blur from all of that SEC speed today. That slow Maize and Blue team looked like they were stuck in mud. Amazing how a team doesn't look slow when it plays with a purpose and makes plays. Miss a bunch of open field tackles and take bad angles and you look real slow.........
  9. QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 1, 2008 -> 07:48 PM) Minnesota is going to win the national championship next year! Hockey? Wrestling? Women's bowling?
  10. QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 1, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) Michigan is going to get raped. Genius play by Michigan to start it off Nice evaluation. Got any other fine predictions for us???
  11. QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 1, 2008 -> 07:33 PM) You are correct. Thought the Oregon game is when he got hurt first. That was Henne
  12. QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 1, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) Pretty much. Unfortunately, we were healthy in Week 1. WTF Hart!!! Actually Mike Hart got hurt and missed two quarters in the opener. So no, there were zero weeks this season that this team was healthy. There were severel other supporting players that were hurt going into that game as well.
  13. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 30, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) Touche -- although in complete hindsight, Florida was much more of an athletic team than Ohio State was (or it sure seemed that way). Perhaps a close observer of both conferences (Rex?) can comment about the relative athleticism of both teams. I honestly don't think there is that big of a speed difference between the two conferences. I think the SEC plays a different style that emphasizes, especially defensively. The bottom line is you can have all the speed in the world, but if you take a bad angle, miss a tackle, miss a cut, etc. you'll look slow. I watched Floriday a lot last year. The difference in that game had nothing to do with the conferences. Florida played the game of its life last year. They didn't play nearly that good the whole season. All I will say is that game was not representative of either team's performance over the course of the entire season. It was simply one game gone wrong or right, depending on who you were rooting for.
  14. Was kind of surprised to hear that Michigan DC Ron English was very interested in the SIU job to the point of having Lloyd Carr and a couple of other people make calls for him and he got zero interest. I'm not sure what kind of coach SIU got, but I have no doubt Ron English will make a good head coach someday soon. He's young, charismatic, recruits well and did a good job for Michigan. The spread caused Michigan defenses problems for sure, but it pretty much does for everybody. Injuries and inexperience really hurt his defense this year, but none of that will keep him from becoming a HC.
  15. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 29, 2007 -> 01:28 PM) This sounds familiar to someone else on this board as of a week ago... The difference is I had never seen IU play in Bloomington. I have seen them play in Indianapolis, Evansville, Louisville, Birmingham and Orlando for a total of about 10-12 games. That's 5 cities and 4 states for those keeping score at home.
  16. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Dec 29, 2007 -> 01:17 PM) Well Im going to Tampa, and never even really considered going to Austin. But if Wisconsin was in the Sweet 16, and it was a time I could get days free or plane tickets, etc, then id probably go to that as well. For most Wisconsin fans, football comes first. When it was a possibility Wisconsin was going to the Alamo bowl people were talking about going to that and then seeing the basketball team. Not to mention Ive never been to a Wisconsin basketball game, but had season tickets to football... Even worse, Wisconsin has played in Chicago a few times and Ive never gone either. Based on that, personally I think you should be banned from this thread until you attend a Badgers hoops game. All of this "info" you have been giving us is based on false pretenses. I'm deeply disappointed. ;-)
  17. Great finish and a nice win for Wisky and the Big Ten. Road wins against top 10 teams are not easy, especially without a key player. Soxbadger, I have a hypothetical for you. Based on the assumption you can only choose one and not both. Which trip does a Badger fan make? Austin for a matchup with the Top 10 Longhorns or Tampa for the Outback Bowl Where do the loyalties lie for most Badgers?
  18. IU plays its first game of the year with its full lineup tonight against Chicago State. Reserve forward/center Eli Holman is out with an injury, but he was only getting mop up minutes for the most part so I did not count him. Tonight will be the first time they have to find playing time for Gordon, Bassett, Crawford and Ratliff. Ellis will slide to the small forward spot where he was early in the year, so the two inside spots will have to be split between DJ, Mike White, DeAndre and Stemler. They'll have a legit 9-man rotation to use tonight.
  19. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 23, 2007 -> 10:25 PM) Nope, but I'm watching via webcast. Bama was 6-8 from behind the arc in the first half, but couldn't withstand a barrage from Wes Johnson, who has something like 13 and 9 in the first half. Bama won't shoot that well from long distance in the 2nd half, book it
  20. QUOTE(danman31 @ Dec 23, 2007 -> 04:52 PM) Seems awfully meaningless for the press it's getting. It's the assistant coaches at Michigan. For those interested in Michigan and how it will affect it is meaningful. Not sure how much press it is getting outside of that realm.
  21. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 23, 2007 -> 10:16 PM) ISU 40, Alabama 40, half. What in the hell got into this basketball team. The Tide doesn't totally suck... This game on TV Heads?
  22. RB Coach Fred Jackson has been re-hired by Rodriguez. He may or may not coach RB's, however (although it looks like he will). Two other assistants may be re-hired as well. Current rumors have them as Steve Stripling (D-line) and either Scott Loeffler (QB's) or Erik Campbell (WR's). Then again the rumors seem to be changing daily.
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 11:33 PM) MIAMI!!!!! And its Miami University folks, it was a school before Florida was a state. lotsa hot babes too!
  24. Rich Rodriguez has told all current Michigan assistants they will not be retained. Word is some may actually be re-hired, but there is no guarantee. Gotta be a strange time in Ann Arbor. This move has to make recruiting, including the current commits, very dicey. Yet, the old staff, including Coach Carr are still there coaching the team through the Capitol One Bowl. I guess nothing is ever smooth when you hire an outside coach, but this seems a bit off from the norm to me. We shall see if the current commits overreact and start to jump or if his new staff can re-recruit them quickly enough to not lose which seemed to be a pretty strong group.
