  1. Agreed. The root of the problem is not bad acting, but bad writing.

That said, as the former editor of a satirical newspaper, it is very hard to be consistently funny over a long period of time. Eventually, you find yourself developing gags that you know won't work, but you do it because you have to. It really hurts on the inside.

  2. Anyone else make the mistake of ordering their World Championship stuff online with the cheapest shipping?

I can't wait for that hat to get here. Its $5 more at the store, but everyone I pass somebody wearing it (which is often) I feel guilty and think "I should be wearing that hat too".

  3. I think Ozzie's image will be tarnished in years to come as Sox seasons fail to live up to this one. Look how quickly things turned around in Florida, for instance.

But, when we're removed from whatever valley brings us the end of Ozzie, perhaps a few years down the line, I think he's a shoe-in. Frank will be there as soon as next year, I imagine.

  4. I don't think I'll be forgetting this anytime soon. I still remember what concessions I got during big wins (and losses) in 2000. (Though I attended a lot fewer ballgames back then)

There is already a book, I think. Its available along with a DVD and a commemorative coin.

  5. Hideki Matsui: 3-Year worth 21M- will make in 6M in 2003, 7M in 2004 and 8M in 2005- + he can earn 500K each year in bonuses- + has a complete NO-TRADE clause- + if he does not sign a contract extension or a new contract by Nov. 15, 2005, then the NYY must place him on waivers for the purpose of granting him his release- + if he were to clear waivers he would become a free agent Agent: Arn Tellem/John Kim Service Time: 2.000

I take it the Yankees can't recall him from waivers if this happens?

I'll laugh if he becomes a Royal this way.

  6. Needing to get another first baseman to replace Konerko is a fallacy. I'm willing to give Dye a chance to play 1B, and then replace Dye with a new outfielder.

Ideally, should Konerko leave, Matsui and Giles would replace the production wonderfully. Of course, Matsui may end up being even more overpriced than Konerko, with the Yankee connection. He might not be interested in playing for anyone who's not the Yanks.

  7. I think he took my comment out of context. People were asking what team he felt closest to, and, by what I read in the article, it seemed to me that the Devil Rays were his favorite ballclub at the time of his death.

But I certainly didn't mean that in a "he's a D-Rays fan, let's not mourn his passing" kind of way, and, indeed, I stated that he probably approved of this year's Sox. Shortly thereafter, an article was posted proving me correct.

  8. If not Furcal, then keep everything as it is except upgrade at DH with Hideki Matsui.  He can also play some CF if needed.

Hideki would be a HUUUUGE pickup. The sort of thing that would automatically lead to me getting season tickets if I had that kind of money.

But we'd have to outbid the Yankees. Good luck with that, though if we ditch Konerko maybe Jerry will pay up. I'm hoping Hideki's choke job in the playoff lowers his value.

  9. Seems he died a Devil Rays fan.

But it seems that, above all, he was simply a baseball fan. And therefore, I don't think he really had a problem with how this White Sox team won it all. I'm sure he approved.

  10. I'll admit I was a big-time Crede hater. As late as Game 2 of the ALDS, I was heckling him everytime he came up to bat, calling him a bum, and telling him that his presence defiled the team he was on and the uniform he wore.

I'm not going to be doing that again. Ever.

  11. Hey, since this seems to be the forum where people ask for sig-related help:

I want to make a sig celebrating Ed Farmer's iminent promotion to Play-By-Play guy. What I have in mind is text that says "The Coming of the Age of Farmio", with a montage of images including a picture of Farmer from his White Sox days, and then pictures of a Canadian Flag, C.C. Sabathia, and sunglasses on a cap with big red X's through them (since Ed Farmer is "not a big fan" of any of these things...get it?)

I'm fairly certain I can do the image editing myself. But all the pictures online of Farmer I could find are from his days as an Indian or a Philly. Does anyone have Farmer in a Sox uniform?

    Thanks.

  12. Basically, they had the two girls who do weekend update on. They're from Chicago and claimed to be Sox fans for their whole lives despite being from the Northside, one of them is from Evanston and the other from Wrigleyville. They claimed to get their meat at Moo & Oink, know people from the Robert Taylor Homes and catch the redline to pass by U.S. Cellular Field(girl called it Comensky Field). Scott saw they were frauds and they admitted they were Cubs fans and one of them was also a BoSox fan. He said that was okay and it was for the whole Chicagoland area. They started naming off suburbs like Wilmette, and they said, "Even for Schaumburg?" and he paused for a second and said, "No, not Schaumburg."

The concept and punchline seem amusing in text. But it wouldn't surprise me at all if the current incarnation of SNL botched the delivery.

Seems that its only good when a politician hosts it (Gore, McCain, Sharpton).
