  1. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 01:24 PM)
    I think Marte's an untouchable unless it's for Clemens or RJ, which we know is not gonna happen.

    Marte has the chance to get some clutch outs late in a post-season game... no way would I touch that.

    Marte is not untouchable. He, Contreras, and Crede have been linked to a possible trade for Burnett and Mike Lowell.

  2. I don't understand his offensive problems either, but I have faith in him. I read a qoute from Lowell that said if he gets traded, he'll play hard wherever he goes, plus he has the ws experience, and he is also a great defensive 3B. i just hope that he and Burnett don't get traded to the BoSox.

  3. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 02:02 AM)
    Many World Series teams also have awesome pitching, a solid offense, and good defense up the middle.  Much more important factors than a strong hitting 3Bman.

    Afterall, I wouldn't say Matt Williams was that strong offensively in 01.

    Theres no doubt those are more important, but if we get him, we have all of the components. Also, based on Lowell's involvement, I believe we do have the best chance of getting him, because Baltimore has Melvin Mora, so they really have no use for Lowell.

  4. According to a Miami newspaper, the Marlins may package thirdbaseman Mike Lowell in the Burnett deal. Also, the paper says that although Baltimore has intensified interest, baseball insiders say that the sox are still the frontrunners to grab Burnett from Florida.

    Allthough his numbers are not the typical Mike Lowell, the deal may be better off with his addition. Now the sox can trade Crede instead of Rowand or Everett, which the sun times said the sox may have to do. Crede still has the potential of being a good offensive player, but it's better off trading him than Rowand or Everett.

    P.S.- Many WS teams have had strong hitting thirdbasemen. Last year it was Mueller, who hit for average, and Rolen who hit for power. Plus, Lowell has had WS experience and I believe he will turn it around in the second half.

  5. I agree, but getting burnett wouldn't hurt either. i'd love to see the sox get burnett and either vizquel or randa. they are both hitting .300 and vizquel plays just as good, if not better, defense as uribe. randa isnt bad either.

  6. A Miami area newspaper said that the white sox were the team most aggresively pursuing a.j. burnett. they also said that a marlins scout was in town for the a's sox series. i hope they get him. what a potent rotation:

    Buehrle

    Garcia

    Burnett

    Garland

    El Duque/ Contreras

  7. QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 01:52 AM)
    Getting Eddie G. would be a beautiful thing. I don't know about Burnett though. He has never really put it all together for a long period of time. He gets hurt a lot too. I guess it just depends what we have to give up. I don't wanna lose Marte. I don't wanna be trading any major league pitching away. With Eddie Guardado our bullpen becomes sick.

    i think the reason Guardado keeps coming up is so they can possibly trade Marte for Burnett and get Guardado, another lefty.

  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 01:20 PM)
    If this move goes down I'd do it, assuming Kenny is confident he could pull a Wagner or Guardado from his sleeve.

    I could really see the sox getting guardado because Peter Gammons said that the sox are making an aggressive push. also, was rosenthal suggesting that the sox will pursue Burnett and Schmidt?

  9. QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 04:27 PM)
    For some reason, I don't think the players get all jacked up about the WS Home Field Advantage.  While it is a great honor, give them the rest and have them sit and watch.  The honor is being there, not playing in the game.

    im not saying they get pumped up, but if they want it to mean something then the best team should have a starter.

  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 04:22 PM)
    Or they could have the pitcher having the best season in the American League start the AS game, not to mention the fact that his team is in the playoff race, 4.5 out of the East.

    Halladay. Period.

    Give Jon and Mark some rest.

    I would agree with you if this didn't have advantage for the world series hanging in the balance, but it does, so if they want the best player to start then they have to take the WS home field advantage rule away.

  11. Either Buehrle or Garland should start the all star game for a simple reason- THE SOX HAVE THE MOST TO PLAY FOR!! The best team in baseball doesn't have a starting position player, so a pitcher should start the game. If they want to have the all star game decide WS home field advantage, then the best team should have a starter. This is also the same reason Podsednik should get the final spot.

  12. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 02:07 AM)
    I didn't read that.  This is what I read. It says nothing about  schmidt.

    thanks for the correction, made a mistake. stupid thinking....but maybe one of them will go..we'll see.

  13. Okay, now many of you may say that you don't have a relationship with Schmidt, but you may very soon, so let's take a look at the differences(Overall career with some of this years stats)

    Contreras

    Can Hit 95 MPH

    No Confidence

    Shows flashes of greatness

    Inconsistent

    This Season:

    3-5 4.35 ERA

    Schmidt

    Can Hit 95 MPH

    Savvy Veteran

    World Series experience

    Devastating changeup

    Pitching inside= lots of confidence

    This Season:

    6-4 5.10 ERA (ya its a little high)

    Now- you may still rather have Contreras, but when the Giants traded for Schmidt in 2002, He was 6-6 with a high ERA. When he got to the Giants he went 7-1 with an ERA in the mid three's. My point is if you put this guy on a winning team, he will be consistent and give solid outings, and hes on pace to have almost a 200 inning season, and this is with the shoulder problem at the beginning of the year. I think he would fit in great and with him you have 4 aces and potentially 4 #1 pitchers.

    Take a look:

    Mark Buehrle

    Freddy Garcia

    Jason Schmidt

    Jon Garland

    Orlando Hernandez

    P.S.- MLB.com says that the sox may trade Arnie Munoz and Sean Tracey in the Schmidt deal. So I think we will keep Anderson and McCarthy.

  14. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 01:13 AM)
    Welcome to the board man! :cheers

    Just for further warning, we actually have a whole trade thread thats pinned up at the top. I think nearly all the pages are pretty much devoted to this rumor.

    As far as the actual trade, it seems like the sources keep wavering. Its a giant rollercoaster ride.

    But once again, Welcome!

    Thanks for the heads up and the welcome.

  15. I was watching CLTV and have heard on Sporting News radio that Jason Schmidt could be headed to the sox this week. On CLTV, they had a Sporting News beat reporter on and he said that the trade WILL happen. I hope it does, i just don't want them to trade Brian Anderson. If they can pull it off without losing him, I'll be fine with it.
