  1. QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 02:36 PM)
    Cowley calling Peavy 50-50

    Cowley wishes he was right 50% of the time. I dont think he's had a useful Sox nugget all year, and why he still has a job as a "beat reporter" is beyond me. Levine is so much better and he doesnt even exclusively follow the Sox, hell Chuck Garfiend is better.

  2. Wow, just yesterday Levine was pointing at the Labor Day weekend series at home against Boston for the earliest possible scenrio in which they would bring Peavy up to start, and now after the brutal game yesterday, they move it up a whole week. Not sure I like the last resort efforts we are going through just to stay competitive within the AL Central race.

  3. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 02:20 PM)
    White Sox home attendance has been on a steady decline since the World Series excitement has worn off.

    2006= 36,511 (avg.)

    2007= 33,140

    2008= 30,877

    2009= 27,803

    It just goes to figure. Attendance has returned to normal. As for road attendance it doesn't surprise me but certainly is disappointing that the Orioles, Indians, Twins, and A's in particular outdraw the White Sox.

    Maybe our road oppenents consider us a "premier game" lol

    I'd think we draw better now than we did in 2003 and 2004.

  4. The flying Elvis' fly in on parachutes during the national anthem and afterwards right before the firwork display (fully equipped with roman candles coming out their arses), at least they used to jump before and after games, not sure anymore. They also have an Elvis look-alike parade along the warning track, and a bunch of cover Elvis acts. Looking forward to our annual patio party!

  5. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 02:34 PM)
    The Score just said on their 2:30 PM update that Rios will make his debut with the team today. I am assuming this means that he will be in the lineup.

    If that's true, that's one helluva early line-up card. Is Ozzie making the batting order from his hotel room?

  6. ...and to think I was laughed at even on this board after selling high on Torii Hunter to get Beckham straight up a couple months back. Forget Hunter, he's outscored Ryan Braun and Manny over the past couple weeks.

    From cbssports:

    Gordon Beckham, SS/3B, White Sox

    Do people not realize he qualifies at shortstop? I mean, he plays third base for the White Sox, so maybe if you just glanced at the box scores, you might have missed that little detail. But surely you didn't. Surely you went to your league's stats page. Surely you sorted by position. Surely you noticed Beckham outpacing everyone else available at the position over the last three or four weeks. Surely.

    His emergence hasn't come quietly or gradually. In standard Head-to-Head scoring, he's averaging 24.2 points over the last five weeks, which is more than Hanley Ramirez is averaging this season (21.6).

    Yeah, he's hot. Yeah, he won't sustain quite this pace from now until Sept. 30, but the fact he can sustain it at all is a testament to his ability and preparedness. After a 2-for-28 stretch to begin his major-league career, he's batting .355 in 155 at-bats.

    Let's not forget this is a guy so naturally gifted the White Sox considered putting him on the roster right out of spring training, before he had even played a game at Double-A ball. His hitting is consistent, his power is emerging, and outside of Hanley Ramirez, Jimmy Rollins, Derek Jeter and Ben Zobrist, I can't think of a shortstop I'd rather have in my starting lineup than him. Maybe Michael Young, Troy Tulowitzki or Alexei Ramirez, but it's close.

    It's time to wake up and smell the White Sox, people. Beckham is here to stay.

    PS- Nice article, Cowley. Youre a clown and a sorry excuse for a beat writer.

  7. QUOTE (Shamrock4Life @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 03:22 PM)
    if they weren't playing slayer every day, then yes it would have been a mistake. but he is playing everyday and raking, so it wasn't a mistake.

    that's the point.. Beckham has sat out what 2-3 games? Black Jack's rant was after a double-hearder and they sat Bacon for 1 of the games within a week of his call-up.

  8. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 10:31 AM)
    It's funny how the Slayer thing was all primed to take off and then Bacon swooped in out of nowhere to dominate

    Wiki had his nickname as "Bacon" before Ozzie even mentioned him in a press-conference. He was heralded as Saint Gordon from the second he arrived, and eveyone thought Ozzie couldnt pronounce Beckham, I think he was just feeding or mocking all the the the surrounded his calling up.

    I wonder if Black Jack still thinks it was a mistake to bring him up this early if he wasnt gonna play everyday. idiot

  9. Every guy in the New England area should fear his gf going out on a ladies night from here on out...

    BA is roaming the streets and is always looking for something to naw on! While maybe not much of a threat on paper, or in person for that matter, do not take party-time BA for granted, he is one resiliant creature of the night.
