  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 03:36 AM) So if the Mets sign Zito, how likely are they to give up Milledge/Humber/Pelfrey? That's the entire point of dealing now. Well luckily for the Sox, the Mets need 2 starters and poss. a 3rd. They dont know what going on with Tom G and Pedro so its poss. they would need more than just Zito and one of our pitchers. The same could be said for Texas too.
  2. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 09:53 PM) Yeah that would be the plan right there. Well I have to admit that I didnt like the idea of trading Garland either but since you were nice enuff to find info. on the possible prospects we would get in return and then factor in that these guys must be legit since KW is no fool, I sold. Especially in the current shape of our pitching in the minors. I would say its anarexic at best. Going into 07 with MB, JC, BMc, Javy and Freddy is still one of the best rotations in baseball. People have to remember that this team severely underachieved in 06 and I for 1 think they will bounce back.
  3. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 09:40 PM) As soon as I heard Masset was a converted starter, I had a feeling he was another Jenks. Power guy, good heavy stuff who's effective when the ball is down in the zone, these are the type of guys KW wants to acquire for the pen, as you've seen from the Aardsma acquisition. I like the Hurley, Danks, Masset for Garland and BA idea, but the only reservation I have is how the Sox are going to fill the LF/CF need. If you can acquire a guy like Figgins without having to give up too much, then by all means pull the trigger on the Garland deal. How does replacing a starter with someone who can put up similar numbers, and free salary for other needs weaken the 2007 team? How does replacing a starter with someone who can put up similar numbers, and free salary for other needs weaken the 2007 team? So what are you thinking, Masset in the pen with poss. Danks and or Hurley in the rotation in 08?
  4. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 09:12 PM) The Sox seem to be interested in Masset as a bullpen piece. He's been a closer in the Mexican Winter League and has an ERA of about 2.25 with about 12 saves last time I checked. So he's a converted starter, and I assume the Sox would use him out of the pen if they acquired him. Kind of like another Bobby Jenks situation. A little piece on Masset; And also here's a really, really good article about Hurley vs. Danks; Im impressed man. You did your homework. I was wondering why reports kept mentioning his name.
  5. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 08:30 PM) That would be the only way Uribe plays 3B. If whatever KW has there to replace Crede struggles. Uribe will not go into the year as the starting 3B. Thats all I was saying. Thats why I like having Cintron on the bench, if something happens he plays short and Uribe goes to 3b. Dont get me wrong I dont want him over there either, Im just saying he could do it is all.
  6. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 08:12 PM) If KW trades Crede you can be damn sure that Uribe isn't his replacement at 3B. Why is that? If Fields ends up not ready to make the jump then who replaces Crede? You could put Rob at third but he hasnt played there in so long who knows how hid D will be. No matter who you put at third it would be extremly hard to replace Crede's D.
  7. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) You know, I don't entirely believe this is true. When various high profile FA pitchers sign, we're (likely) eliminating those teams from dealing with us. Potential trading partners will eventually become fewer and fewer. I'd be more willing to offer our starters when the entire field is a possibility. Even though there remains a lot of time between now and Spring Training, Williams waits long enough and suddenly he'll become the desperate party. Everyone already knows we're willing to sell. It's a bit different dealing with 10 teams now than 5 two months from now; none of which may possess the prospects/players we may covet. I'm not suggesting Williams immediately jumps upon the first offer; but honestly, we should have already traded a starter by Christmas. After that, I'll be more worried about return value than I currently am. I also agree with what your saying but teams like Texas and the Mets are looking for 2 maybe even 3 starters so even if they sign someone a deal could still be made for 1 of our starters.
  8. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) Honestly, I don't see how anyone can think that Garland is our best pitcher unless these people who do decide to erase all of their histories except for the last two years -- and even then, I think Garland comes off looking weaker than all of them except for maybe Javier. About SS: I don't think it's that large an area of need. If we can upgrade Uribe, then sure, go for it, but I don't think we can without overpaying and taking on a big nasty contract. Our priority shouldn't be replacing Uribe and it shouldn't even be too high up on our list, IMO. I like having him on the bench, too. As far as Uribe, he could become even more valueble if the sox do end up trading Crede. I remember a few years ago he played some games at 3rd and played pretty well. He definately has the arm to play it or should I say cannon.
  9. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 07:56 PM) I don't think Cintron's glove is that good, and that's always been the knock against him. He's not a bad option, but, if it's between him and Uribe, I'd take Uribe every time. Oh I totally agree. I like having Cintron on the bench to give IF's days off and some speed off the bench for late innings.
  10. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) Buehrle had 15, Contreras had 13, and Garland had 13. I guess Vazquez was our best last season. Well I think its safe to say that all of our starters under-achieved last season.
  11. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) Williams' willingness to trade his "best pitcher" might have to do with the fact that Garland, ah, might not be the best pitcher in his eyes. Or, perhaps, it might have to do with the knowledge that God needs a rotation spot in 2007 and that he should acquire some arms that'll contribute to the club, soon. really, I'm just saying that I'd rather give up Cintron than Uribe, easy. I understand what your saying, its almost impossible to replace his D and after having such a s***ty season that he would rebound in 07 with bat. I just hate to give up cintron b/c he is a quality SS with a good glove, good bat and brings some speed to the game.
  12. QUOTE(shoota @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 07:34 PM) Good point, I see the importance of obtaining young, quality pitching; my puzzlement is born from KW's seemingly willingness to trade his best pitcher, Garland, before two other pitchers of value: Vazquez and Garcia. With 6 legitimate starters, I agree with the philosophy of trading from this position of strength to improve a position of weakness. I disagree with KW using his only expendable player of high value on the parent club to improve minor league pitching before upgrading SS and LF. I can understand that Garlands youth and contract make him more attractive, especially being a ground-ball pitcher at Ameriquest but its those same reasons that I would like to keep him. I think teams are under the impression that KW is desperate to trade one of the starters and are shooting for the moon with Garland. These GM's need to realize that they need our help and not the other way around. There are plenty of teams that want 1 of our pitchers. I think if a team doesnt want to settle for Javy or Freddy then f*** them we'll find a trade partner with someone else!
  13. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 07:22 PM) Here's a write up on Feldman from Baseball AMerica's 2006 Prospect handbook: #15 prospect "Feldman's fastball velocity increased from 88-90 mph early in the yr [2005] to 91-93 by the time he received a mid-August callup to Texas. His fastball has plus life and good sink, inducing bushels of groundballs. He has a loose whippy arm and a deceptive sidearm delivery. He shows plus-plus command against righties moving the ball around the zone but typically keeping it down. Feldman compliments his fastball with an average sweeping slider. He also has a changeup to employ against lefties as a show pitch. He still needs to improve at getting lefties out, and the Rangers think he eventually will become a middle reliever. For now, he figures to be aright-on-right specialist for Texas" Sounds like Chad Bradford, but about 10 years younger and $15 million cheaper. Great research on your part. That long arm coming at you from the side of a 6'6" frame should really mess up hitters. He sounds good to me, throw him into the mix.
  14. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 07:12 PM) Wonder if we could deal Garland and Cintron for Young and the pitching prospects? Garland and Uribe, even, if we had to, but it sure be nice to ship off Cintron who is, IMO, too expensive for a backup and not as good as Uribe. Then we could ship out Uribe or Tadahito and replace whichever with Young, though in that case I'd rather move Iguchi since he's in his last year. Just speculation, of course, but it be interesting. I see what your saying about cintron making 1.6m and up for arbitration but looking at this financially I would dump Rob Mac. instead. He is a bit pricey at 2.75m for 07. Especially for a guy who is a terrible OF but he is good to have around to back up Crede.
  15. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 06:41 PM) Someone please look up Garcia's gamelog for this year, because I am almost positive he had 10-12 bad starts too. My computer is lagging like a mofo right now. I counted 14 bad starts last year. Thats 14 games with 4 plus earned runs which seamed to be the criteria used for Javy.
  16. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 06:34 PM) For those of that are actually keeping track: Freddy is going to the Angels Javy is going to the Mets Garland is going to Texas Buehrle is going somewhere the Foxsports has yet to determine. Rotation for next year: Count BMac ???? ???? ???? Believe everything you read! Thats awesome man. From now on I wont believe any rumors til I here them from you first .
  17. QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) He was 64-68 with the Expos . Then he went 14-10 with the Yankees. Then 11-15 with Arizona. Then 11-12 with The White Sox. If someone could demonstrate to me Javy's tremendous upside, which has not been evident in NINE FREAKING MAJOR LEAGUE SEASONS, I'll change my opinion. Until then I will call a dog a dog. Well I cant argue with you on the #s. They do speak for themselves. I dont know what happened to him with the Sox, Spanks and the D-backs but the Expos were a s***ty team for a long time and his #s are more than good enuff to have a plus 500 record. As far as up-side Im looking at nothing but his stuff. He did show at times last season what hes capable of when hes locating and keeping that curve-ball down.
  18. QUOTE(beautox @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 06:10 PM) I agree, everything i've read on Diamond is that he is in the same class as Juan Morillo, yes he has a 97mph heater, but he hasn't developed any secondary pitches. He throws 97! That would explain his high walks. A 1 pitch pitcher with alot of walks means no control. Im not sold on him either but he is young and could still develope another pitch or two and learn to locate pitches better.
  19. The worst out of Garcia ...Ill buy that but not the best out of Javy. Javy has too good of stuff to be that bad. If he could pull his head out of his ass he would get back to pitching like he did for the Expos. The guy has alot of life on his fastball, a great slider, a good curve (when he doesnt hang it ) and a descent change. He still has good years ahead of him.
  20. QUOTE(shoota @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 05:45 PM) The current construction of the White Sox is that of a contending World Champion. Thus, I find it puzzling that KW is allegedly in pursuit of acquiring unproven players in exchange for his best pitcher. Well with 2 starters and 1 arb. eligable for 08 hes does need to get something going for the future. All we have for youth as of now for 08 is Broadway unless KMc grows up real fast. We all know that KW doesnt live on the free-agent market.
  21. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) I'm starting to like you. Oh s***, how did that happen? QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) The thing is, if Anderson is included in this deal, are we going to go out and try to sign say a J.D Drew, trade for a Chone Figgins, or are we going to give the reins to Ryan Sweeney for 2007? Um I dont know. Im thinking with Sweeney being 2 yrs younger and steadily improving that maybe BA is expendable. Either way they still have to sign or trade to fill in the LF spot.
  22. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 05:08 PM) I'd take Hurley in the deal instead of including Otsuka. You can always go out and sign Justin Speier in the FA market instead. Good point man. The Sox would have more money to spend after trading salary. I hope I put the periods in the right places this time.
  23. Rosenthall was asked by someone at fox where Frank was going to and said he was sure Frank was going to to stay in Oakland. Yet another Rosenthall prediction gone bad. Ill believe these rumors when I click on the Sox web site and see it for myself. Wasnt Rosenthall also the reporter speculating on a Sox-Mets trade?
  24. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 12:51 PM) Am I the only one who doesn't want to trade Garcia? This is a "win now" team and Freddy still has some years left. If I'm dealing someone to make room for McCarthy, it's going to be Vazquez, who I never liked in the first place. Having said that, I'm not sure I want to trade any of the pitchers until we KNOW that McCarthy is the real deal. Not to mention Contreras's back could go out at any minute and we don't know if Buerhle will bounce back. I guess what I'm saying is that you can never have enough pitching in baseball and I don't want to give any of it up (unless I'm getting some in return, as was rumored - and then shot down by KW - in the Garcia to LA deal). The only thing I dont like about Garcia is he coulnt hold a runner on 1st with a sniper rifle in his hand but I do believe he will bounce back with his velocity and get back to who he was . I agree with you that you cant have enuff pitching but if we were to keep everyone than BMc sits in the pen for 07 too and when 08 comes people will be saying the same thing about BMc not being proven. Thing is we will never know til we get him in the rotation. I will say this about BMc, he did start some games at the end of 05 and looked damn good especially the game he pitched in Boston.
  25. QUOTE(kwill @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 12:22 PM) 3 was deal White sox get: Crawford+Figgins Angels get: Crede+Garcia Tanpa Bay get: E. Santana and a prospect It makes sense for all parties. Tampa gets a great young pitcher. Angels get that power bat in Crede and front line starter in Garcia. We get the table setters for the middle of the lineup...Imagine the lineup, CHONE CRAWFORD DYE THOME KONERKO AJ TADIHITO URIBE SWEENEY/ANDERSON/FIELDS tHATS WHATS GREAT ABOUT FIGGINS, WE COULD SEE WHO IS THE BEST PROSPECT. That sounds good but with Crede gone Fields would be in the lineup at third which leaves BA and Sweeney on the bench. Also could put Figgins at third, he did play third a few years ago when Troy was injured and put 1 of the 3 kids in the OF. Unfortunately it doesnt look like getting Figs and Crawford would actually happen but it would be nice.
