Toby Hall isn't the greatest defensive catcher, but he may be the best free agent catcher (assuming he does get let go, which I think he will). Also he hits lefties well, whom AJ struggles against.

Overwhelm Toby Hall with an offer. Kenny has to realize that if (god forbid) AJ were to go down with an injury we would be absolutely screwed. We have NO ONE within the organization that can replace him.

No way the D-Rays would do that. It's not enough value for Crawford, plus the D-Rays already have a logjam in the outfield as it is. They probably would demand a package centering around McCarthy. Maaaaybe, maybe if Crede was signed long term to a reasonable deal. I'm looking at a Grady Sizemore type deal, but considering he's about to become a rich, rich man thanks in part to Boras, he definitely isn't worth more than Santana and Figgons.

It may even turn out better that KW waited to pull the trigger on a trade for one of our starters. After some of the free-agent starters get signed, there will be a few teams who couldn't cash in, who would then be more likely to overpay for one of our starters. I think another spot that needs addressing, albeit it isn't as pressing as say LF, is back-up catcher. Stewart isn't the answer, and AJ needs to get rest. He was clearly tired by the end of the season. Ideally we could get a competeny back-up who can hit lefties well. Hell, at this point I'll be happy with anyone just as long as we don't bring back Sandy.
