Way to take my comments and take them to a ridiculous extreme and then make a sarcastic comment on your ridiculous take to prove your point. That's a logical and intelligent way to put forth your point.

Let me return the favor: So you're saying that you believe that on any team it should always be "every man for himself" and you think the goal of all sports is get yours and screw the team. Oh, okay, I now agree with you.

    See how that goes.

Also, I wouldn't want a parent like you to have a kid on my team because you're one of those parents who thinks is okay for kids to miss practice for a haircut or to go shopping with the family because family comes first.

On you second comment. I know we can't, but I would bet you big money and even give you odds that Stievers and Crochet (not sure how to spell their names and don't feel like looking it up) don't throw a pitch in the post season. And when Kopech starts out next year with an extended stay in the minors, can I come on her and say I told you so.

Kopech hasn't seen real game action in 2 years, of course he is going to start in the minors. That isn't really an I told you so moment.

Grandal is better, no doubt. I do think however all things being equal if the Sox invested their money in a RF instead of Grandal, we would be better off with McCann and (insert big money RF) vs Grandal and Mazara. I think going forward you have to commit to Grandal.

I think pitching was more important than an RF at the time and is going forward.

I am not undervaluing McCann.  He's a good ballplayer and I agree he's not the same guy he was in Detroit.  He's also nowhere near as good as Grandal, nor is he anywhere near as good of a fit for this roster as Grandal.

Again, I like James.  I hope he decides to stick around, but I find it incredibly hard to believe he's going to sign with a team that has one of the best 2 catchers in baseball over looking for an everyday opportunity elsewhere.

I am sure McCann won't be here next year, he would be foolish to not find a job as a starter. The only slim possibility is that the Bromance with Giolito is so strong that he can't tear himself away.

I am not deluded enough to think that Grandal is bad, I just don't think that spending the money to upgrade from a B to an A+ made sense when there are still D's on the roster. It also becomes more frustrating when in an admittedly SSS we haven't seen that A+ player. Some articles I have read have indicated that framing abilities decline rapidly at around age 31, if the elite framing disappears is Grandal still a top 2 catcher?

I like James McCann.  He's turned himself into a quality mlb starting catcher.

Chances are, he would get very exposed playing everday, just like he did last year.

    1st half stat 2019 line: .316/.371/.502

    2nd half 2019 stat line: .226/.281/.413

    career stat line: .250/.301/.391

Chances are, if you play McCann everyday, you're getting a .250/.300/.400 type hitter.  This is not the type of hitter that makes you pass on 3.5-5 fWAR catcher in Grandal, who also happens to fill two of the other main weaknesses of the ball club (strong OBP and lineup balance).

Grandal will be fine, but people need to stop expecting a .300 hitter.  He is a career .240 hitter.  But he gets on base 35% of the time, which this lineup sorely needs.  He's not really a middle of the order bopper though, and it would help if RR moved him down.

I think you greatly underestimate James McCann. I see a guy who worked hard to change his approach at the plate and became a much better hitter because of it. He is completely changed form the hitter he was in Detroit. I think you over simplify things by showing the first half and second half numbers from last year. Going month by month you get:

    April  .357/.400/.536

    May .338./372/.514

    June .275/.363.500

    July  .173/.212/.309

    Aug .274/.330/.476

    Sept .250/.314/.453

One horrible month of July is really dragging down the second half numbers. it looks to me like the pitchers finally made an adjustment to him in July and he had to adjust against that. He may not put up those first half stats over a full season but I believe he is clearly much better than a .250/.300/.400 hitter.

Unfortunately #1 starters get paid $200+ million in free agency.  That's not going to happen while JR owns the team.

There only appears to be 1 potential #1 starter on the FA market this off season. If we are getting one it would likely have to be via trade.

They had a high priority placed on a top end pitcher, even offering 9 figures to get one done.  I have zero doubt they will chase another #1 starter this winter.

I certainly hope they can find a #1 starter this off season. I would expect a regression from Giolito at least for his fist season without McCann. Hopefully they also find a backup catcher that will be able to work with Giolito if he can't click with Grandal.

    Factors working against Grandal:

    1) He signed a team record deal at $18 million per season.   People are expecting greatness based on that.

    2) The Dumb Ass manger has him anchored in the 2-3-4 spot of the lineup all year

    3)  While McCann is not as good as Grandal, the gap between them is way closer than people think with also factoring the fact that the teams' best pitchers prefer to pitch to McCann.

I think another thing working against him is that after the signing he was presented as having this great knowledge in working with pitchers and he was going to be able to get more out of the pitchers. That hasn't seemed to happen so far. He was also an elite framer but for that hasn't shown up yet either. I have read a couple of articles that have said that framing abilities tend to drop off rapidly after age 31 so it is possible that we may never see that elite framing.

  8. I don't hate Grandal but I think he was poor allocation of funds. We already had a good, maybe not great but good catcher on the team and several other holes on the team that should have been a higher priority in my opinion. The way he is being used makes it more frustrating. Move him down in the order and maybe some of this goes away.

  9. I am really torn on this. I do think that the time could be right to take a real run at things but I am not sure any of the names that seem available are the guy to put us over the top. I think to have a chance both this year and next we need a true TOR starter and I don't really see one available. Lynn look pretty good but I am not sure if he is enough. Ray shouldn't even be looked at. Bundy seems to have emerged but is it for real? deGrom seems to be the only real difference maker to me and I doubt he is available.

That's why you extend James to a multi year deal which allows you to trade him for something of value.  Letting him walk would be such a Sox/Rick Hahn brainless move.

Why in the world would James McCann sign a deal to be the White Sox back up when he will be very likely to get a job as the starter somewhere else? Losing him for nothing was assured when he wasn't traded shortly after the Grandal signing.

Thank you for believing in me. But I will take a pass on Manager, Pitching Coach, Hitting coach, Third and first Base Coaches. I will take the GM job if offered to me. I have a tremendous amount of confidence in my abilities. I would make a tremendous White Sox GM.

Out of curiosity, what do you feel are your qualifications for the job?
