That's great to hear. I knew (or rather heard) that he was getting his fastball up to about 95, but wasn't expecting him to be getting much higher than that. Was the higher velocity fastball his 2 seamer with the life or a 4 seamer without much life that he added? Cause if he was touching 98 and getting up to around 95-96 with the running fastball he has.... damn!

I think the scouts and the beat writers might have put those expectations on the kid. After all, the first real reports we had on the kid had the words “Cuban Babe Ruth” as a primary piece.

 

I remember being unimpressed when he was first mentioned here on soxtalk a few months before he was really hyped up in the media.

I doubt SF would want Paulie's contract. I think he's worth more to the White Sox than most teams. The Sox have to have some offense in 2009.

 

If the pitching staff stays as it is, I don't think it really matters what kind of offense we have.
