  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:31 PM)
    One position player in, and Eaton out. I don't see the net gain here.

    Agreed. We are set for pitching as one can be but utterly starving for position players, especially outfielders. But we just traded our best one who could've been part of the future.

    One thing I will say is that we sold as high we probably could've with Eaton... just wish it would've been for a position player headliner.

  2. I just worry that we just traded a legit Hall of Famer in his prime on a bargain contract for two unproven prospects and didn't get one proven player in return. Love Moncandas ceiling and if he pans out as a superstar or even very good player, then the deal was probably worth it. But if he flops, we got hosed. That's my thought. To have a hall of famer in their prime on your team is a very rare thing...

  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 10:52 AM)
    Right, and Saladino has the same issues. If you could get a haul for Lawrie, fine. What are you going to get for him? The team will be able to use both, and they both will probably miss time. I like having guys working on the last year of their contracts. Much more positive than negative.

    And while I am sure Saladino would rather play just one position, his value is in his ability to play multiple positions. Getting away from that doesn't make much sense to me.

    Agreed. Plus it's great insurance.

  4. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 12:41 PM)
    He has a 7.62 ERA with the White Sox. That's a f***ing AVERAGE.

    I suppose that means if James Shields goes out on the mound, if we don't score EIGHT RUNS, on average, we lose.

    Is this the worst acquisition in the history of major league baseball?

    But we got him for a bargain! Only paying him $10 million a year....

    What an embarrassment for whomever was pulling the trigger on that deal (which we will never know who b/c there is no accountability).

    With the $12-$13 million off the books from LaRoche and $15 million for Danks next year, we could theoretically use that $25 million per year to sign a big FA bat (assuming the FO was resigned to doing so) without our salary cap being really impacted. We now can no longer do that b/c we replaced Danks horrible K with another horrible K for the next 2 years (you literally can't make this stuff up).

    At least we have an extra $12-$13 million to sign another middling, aging veteran FA.

  5. But it's been frustrating to see him blow the only bright spot we've had this season (Chris Sale's performance) and then pick a win for it. He's done that a few times this year. Once to Quintana this year. At the very least, I'd like to see Sale win the Cy Young since it's the only thing that will pique my interest. Robertson not helping that cause.

    I find it so hard to believe Hahn couldn't find a suitor for him at the deadline...

  6. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 08:28 PM)
    Then why trade Duke? He was our only good lefty and didn't need to be moved? If he's going "all in" he better spend a s*** ton of money. Cespedes or some bat, revamp the bullpen by signing Chapman and stop half assing things. This franchise also needs to stop rushing f***ing prospects. I'm tired of it. You're seeing how unready Fulmer is. Anderson I could understand but they're too aggressive. Adams, Fulmer, etc.

    What about Jennings?

  7. This is true. Don't get be angry about Sale and Q, because it's possible Sox didn't get fair value for those players and properly held out. But all indications suggest they could have moved the guys you mentioned and gotten something of value for them and/or obtained payroll flexibility at the same time. Seriously, we could have unloaded Shields... Plugged Fulmer into the rotation next year and had roughly $25 million of payroll off the books for next year (Danks + Shields), which could be used to sign some positional talent.

  8. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 02:38 PM)
    Ugh. This is stupid. The Sox would have traded Sale and Q if they got the offers they wanted.

    Clearly they didn't.

    Exactly. Teams aren't budging and nor should the Sox. We need to hose a team of their prospects in order to get fair trade value on Sale. If nobody is willing to do that and just unload Sale to just to make a move, then we get hosed. Stay put if it's not there.

  9. Robertson isn't as good as Chapman, but he's still a solid closer whose worth his contract, will help another team out down the stretch, and has 2.5 years left of control. That to me nets you what the Yankees got for Chapman as he it literally a 3 month rental.

  10. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 02:22 PM)
    Tells you things didn't go according to plan.

    I like the idea of holding on to 1 or both unless we get something decent. We just may given the way they've both pitching and the state of the market. (plus we quietly sneaking back to .500)
