Who knows. What happened to Sammy Sosa's arm? Just bulked up beyond belief, and has poor throwing technique. Throw in some injuries...... Yeah Quentin would be better than Dye in right, but that's not saying much. Dye has no range anymore, is the King of Almost-Catch, falls asleep on some plays, makes rookie decisions and his throwing has reaaaally deteriorated lately.
  2. Yes, but Oney also got b****-slapped by Brian Anderson's younger brother at a bar during an imprompu drinking contest (which is, btw, the real reason why Ozzie still holds a mega-grudge against Brian.)
  3. Wait, how's "solid 2-3 starter" translate to "incredible upside". Not to split hairs, but Stephen Straussburg and that Cuban Lefty have upsides that are remotely close to incredible level. Is Hudson that good? Is he really topping out at 98? I mean, I know he throws 4 pitches and all.... but so did Josh Fogg and Matt Guerrier.
  4. Why can't David Cook be our Jake Fox?
  5. Brandon MaCarthy, Neal Cotts and Gio Gonzalez struck out a lot of A-ball hitters, too. Big deal. Dex Carter needs to prove he's Corwin Malone before Padres annoint as anything "next"

How much money are we talking about? Sox have Quentin as the future LF (his arm is no longer RF quality). Jermaine Dye is a DH at this point, but who knows Ozzie's idiocy he might want him back as a RF. And we all know Pods ain't no CF. So how much money are we talking about?
  7. Scott Linebrink doesn't want or cannot throw that nasty splitter anymore. That is why he is no longer one of the better relievers. That is why guys like Jeter can sit on his straight mid-90s fastball in clutch situations and eventually do some damage with it. It's his shoulder most likely. And that rarely goes away at his age. Sox should try to sell high no him and maybe even Bobby Jenks in the off-season. Meh.
  8. Yes, and "defense aside" Frank Thomas was much more valuable as a CF. . Sorry, it simply doesn't work that way (outside the confines of fantasy dorkball, err, I mean baseball).
  9. That's not exclusive to Soxtalk, though, but most fans our age and younger. Neurotic and hard to please. Yankee fans, for instance, haven't felt joy or exhibited sense of good-will toward fellow human beings since, what? 1950s? It's, like, a scientific fact.
  10. Relax. Quentin's swing is still explosive. He missed a lot of time, and even when he played, he played on a bad leg (if not with a still unhealed wrist). When healthy, Quentin is the best hitter on the team. And that includes Beckham. 2008 wasn't a mirage. Let's hope Q. is not dragged down by injuries. *says prayer*
  11. Beckham most certainly is NOT worth more as a SS than he is a 3B. Why? Because there is nothing in his college or minor league career that indicates that he can be anything but a mediocre defensive SS. Although defensive prowess remains exceedingly difficult to quantify, it's fairly reasonably to conclude that Beck will cost you bases/outs/runs with the glove as a middle INF, in the long haul 3B, however, I can definately see him play on above-average basis --- as he is more athletic than most 3B. In fact, it can be argued that since the AllStar break, he's made a big improvement at the position (until yesterday, lol). Beckham is the 3B of the future. Alexei is the SS of the future (hopefully the whole aloof/lazy thing on routine throws is just temporary). It really is that simple. Even Ozzie agrees.
  12. a) roids B) injuries c) lack of high baseball IQ & OBP skillz.
  13. Whatever the cause.... Danks velocity is down by a tick as compared to 2008, and he leaves his off-speed pitches up way to much. He's been at times atrocious at USCF. Ozzie's mishandling of him, IMO didnt' help the matter either in 08 or in 09.
  14. The reason people "love" Getz so much is that he has a chance to be a..... grinder. Not the washed-up Darrin Erstad 2007 kind. The real kind: low salary, high SB total, low CS total, high OBP, low K, etc. Now, obviously Getz is still work in progress: his swing is just a little too big for his talent profile; as well he has struggled after his finger fracture which doesn't make his overall season stats that appealing. But I think the guy is a keeper as an ideal #9 hitter, and who knows, maybe even a good #2 some day. Finally, ridiculously overrated fake-stats like UZR aside, Getz defense hasn't been that bad. Weaker arm than you'd like; some rookie brain cramps, sure, but it's not in the rangeless D-Angelo Jimenez or Jeff Kent territory.
