  1. I like Robin as a person but this is hard to say as a Die Hard Sox fan Robin so far has not been a good manager. He is not at level of the Tigers manager.
  2. QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Mar 2, 2013 -> 05:32 AM) I never stated that his four season define him and you misquoted me. I corrected the total at bats he has had over four seasons by 150 but you continue to bring it up as though it makes a difference. It doesn't. I explained that the statistic was misread by me since that number is right under his total at bats at baseball reference.com. But again, it doesn't matter. Flower's batting average still averages out to .205. If you extrapolate his strikeouts over a full season, he would have about 160 Ks and that concerns me. Additionally, I have watched Flowers over the past several years as we all have so my opinions as well as others have been formed over time, not just by a quick review of his poor offensive stats. I have heard all sorts of excuses for his low batting average and those are just fine, but they do not remove the concerns that many Sox fans have. And those concerns are not just based upon poor offense but his durability given his size, his weight and the fact that he has not had a full season behind the plate in the major league. Trying to turn this around or having multiple IDs singling me out as though I just invented this issue is baloney. It is not up to me or any other Sox fan to prove why we are concerned about relying on Flowers as our starting catcher when it is obvious. The fact that some "think" he will improve and hit over .250 with 25-30 home runs is fine, and I hope that is right. I am sure thousands of other Sox fans doubt that will happen. Try to accept differing opinions graciously rather than flipping into attack/troll mode. As I have said, I do not acknowledge people who do that and I will not continue to go back and forth to try to get the last word in or to engage people in a worthless, time-consuming, circular argument. In the future, if you want someone to go back and forth with, pick on someone else. Well said Hitman. I agree with you 100%. I too hope Flowers develops into a .250 hitter with 25 HR's but I am concerned that he will be a .210 hitter with under 20HR's and way to many K's.
  3. Just another day and no moves from the comatose Hahn. Who's payroll is he on? Sox or Detroit? Just maybe if everything works out we can beat KC for 2nd place.
  4. Once Rick Hahn gets off the life support system and snaps out of the coma he is has been all off season then I am sure he will make a blockbuster deal. If he could just wiggle his toes to let us know he is still alive.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) As of today, this team will be lucky to win 100 games See? Works both ways The chances of the current lineup having 3 starting players that will hit under .250 possibly under .240 and even under .230 [Dunn, Beckham & Flowers] is very high. How many other contending teams have 3 every day starters with those numbers?
  6. Maybe some of us "whiny" fans simply realize that the already loaded Tigers became even tougher to beat during this off season and the Sox didn't. Do you really feel that adding Keppinger and losing AJ made us a better club? We will still support our team but in the back of our minds we know that making the playoffs with this current lineup even as a wildcard is a longshot.
  7. Wow great news, Flowers is projected to hit under .220 with less then 15 HR's and under 40 RBI's. Who needs AJ with those impressive numbers from our new starting catcher.
  8. Doing nothing to improve the current roster does not give the impression that the Sox are serious about competing with Detroit. Unmotivated fans means less tickets sold which means no money for future moves. Give us a real reason to believe we can beat the Tigers and we will spend our money on this years team.
  9. Kenny made some questionable deals that didn't pan out and he also made some excellent deals that really improved the team. The point being Kenny had the cahones to do a deal. He was never content with the roster and he was always looking for a way to make the team on the field better. Dumping AJ and adding Keppinger is a wash at best. Will Danks be ready for opening day, who knows? Will Flowers hit his weight or will he continue to be a .205 hitter? Will Dunn not strike out 200 times? Will Tank stop swinging at pitches 6 inches outside the plate? Will Beckham hit like he actually belongs in the big leagues? Will Thornton not lose 10 games again? Will the Sox actually score runners from 3rd with less then 2 outs? I say we have alot of questions to answer to be considered serious contender to the always strong and improved Tigers. If Hahn adds some more talent we will have a fun summer but he has to prove to a lot of us that he is actually serious about winning this year, so far he has not !!!
  10. They just interupted the regularly scheduled TV programming with breaking news. The Amber alert for Rick Hahn has been finally lifted. He was found cowaring under Kenny Williams old desk shaking and crying like a little baby muttering that he is in over his head in this new job. Disregard any milk cartons that still have his picture on the side of them. Hahn was rushed to a nearby hospital to see if they could sew a set of nuts on him. Stay tuned for updates.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 12, 2013 -> 08:15 PM) The difference isn't that great. It's usually just one or two moves. But consistently hitting the mark is impossible in predicting stocks or making "winning" trades year after year after year. Flip Victor Martinez for Adam Dunn in 2011, the Sox have a MUCH better shot of competing. Flip Thome (not going to the Twins) for Kotsay/Jones in 2010. Last year, they did about as much as humanly possible with Youkilis, Myers and Liriano and it just didn't quite work out in the end. On paper, the Tigers win the division 90%+ of the time if it was a computer simulation. As currently comprised, this team is still at least 2 impact players away, and we can't mortgage our future, nor should we...if Paul Konerko is gone after 2013, they're going to have to find someone to market, and the plan won't be "come out and see Adam Dunn and Alex Rios play in their final seasons for the White Sox." Maybe it's Sale, Viciedo, Thompson or Hawkins, but we have to develop our own superstar-caliber player internally. We can't afford to go out and buy that player on the open market until the new local broadcasting contract comes up for renewal with a huge influx of new revenue. I agree were about 1 or 2 good moves from seriously contending. And I agree as the rosters stand now the Tigers are about a 90% favorite to win the division. Then do we just concede the division this season and just go through the motions and lose more fans or do we do what is needed to give the Tigers a serious run at the title and not worry that we have to save some young players for the seasons down the road. I say we worry about 2015 in 2015 and make the moves now that will give us the best shot to win now.
  12. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 12, 2013 -> 08:56 AM) I am not sure why people think it is easy for Rick Hahn to make moves. 1) We don't have much money to play with in free agency, so he really can't acquire anyway using that method. 2) We don't have a deep minor league system to deal for a proven veteran. 3) We don't really have that many valuable assets on the ML team. We have old veterans making a lot of dough who are not that attractive for other organization and we don't really have the young talent that teams pine over. So are you saying we should just settle for a none serious season long contending team on opening day and be happy if we catch a few breaks and maybe win 85 games again? You might be contend to sit back and watch Detroit and KC get better while our off season has been a wash, we get Keppinger and lose AJ. We all hope that Danks will start the season on the opening day roster but that is not a given. Like I said previously not all of Kenny's moves were successful but at least he had the nuts to pull the trigger on deals that he though could make the team better. So far Rick Hahn has done nothing creative with the same limited resources Kenny had to show alot of us diehard Sox fans that he is serious about winning this winnable division. Of course Dunn could cut his strikeouts down to under 100, Beckham finally could hit like he belongs in the major leagues, maybe Thornton will not lose double digit games again, maybe The Tank will stop swinging at pitches that are way outside of the strike zone, just maybe the entire team will actually learn how to bunt and who knows this year we will might actually score a runner from third with less then 2 outs on a regualr basis. There's a chance Flowers will hit his weight and not his career ave of .205. That sure is alot of if's. If all that happens then Rick Hahn was right by not making any major moves. The chances of all that happening isn't to good so I say lets ket the rest of the division know that we are serious about competing this season and do something that will make us obviously better.
  13. Just another day and again no moves to improve this team by Rick Hahn. I guess he will just be happy to just finish ahead of the Indians, Twins and maybe the Royals. Some of Kenny's moves were questionable but at least he tried to make this team more competitive with the Tigers. Hey Rick, grow a set and do something just to let us know you are still alive.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 01:21 PM) It is easy to sit up and take shots like that when you aren't the one managing the budget. Fortunately Kenny, Rick, Jerry and company do consider the effects on the fan base. Sox fans are notorious fickle. Their history proves that. Oh I see its the fans fault theat management traded away good, inexpensive, young talent for Nick Swisher and Edwin Jackson
  15. CF A. Jackson 7 vs DeAza 6 slight advantage Jackson LF T. Hunter 6 vs Tank 7 almost a wash but I'll say slight advantage Tank RF Q. Berry/ A. Garcia 6 vs Rios 8 advantage Rios 1B Prince 9 vs Paulie 8 sorry to say but I have to give advantage to Prince 2B R. Santiago 4 vs Beckham 5 both suck but because of D slight advantage Beckham SS J. Peralta 5 vs Alexi 7 advantage Alexi 3B KM. Cabrerra 10 vs Keppinger 7 blowout advantage Cabrerra C A. Avila 5 vs Flowers 4 Flowers is unproven advantage Avila DH V. Martinez 8 vs Dunn 8 push Ace Verlander 10 vs Sale 9 Sale is very good but Verlander gets the advantage Rest of Starters Det 6 Sox 7 slight advantage Sox Bullpens Det 5 Sox 5 push Bench Det 5 Sox 3 Sox have no bench Manager Det 6 Sox 4 Robin still learning In my opinion and home made formula Detroit wins 92 games and the Sox win 88 [maybe enough for wildcard but doubtful] 4 games Detroit advantage is catchable if Rick Hahn makes the right moves. Come on Rick we are counting on you.
