  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) What do you mean you haven't had time to comment? You have time to set up 4 different threads but no time to actually participate in the threads? I just wrote those quickly and checked up on them. I haven't really read any other articles yet, but once I do I will probably comment on them.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 29, 2012 -> 10:38 PM) There are plenty of longtime posters that promote their own sites, side projects and blogs on this site. Have you seen multiple posters with Flapship.com in their sig? Statestsports started here as a poster named Jimbos drinker. We dont have a problem with that. What we do have a problem with is people who show up, register and immediately link their own blog as a way to drive up their own site traffic. Thats bulls***. If you want to participate in discussion and be a member of the site, we are all about that. But you and Soxnews(if that is another person or just an alternate name of yours) look like you are just setting up to start linking to your blog. Thats why other members as well as mods and admins are calling it out. Dont play the "you guys discourage discussion" card around here either, thats a copout. If you participated in threads like others do you would see there is plenty of discussion, some of it leads to arguments of course but there is some damn good members on this site that provide some damn good insight and thoughts on many different topics, so dont act like you are reinventing the wheel by coming up with a poll and a paragraph to start a discussion. Other people do it too. Yes, I understand the whole don't self-promote concept, which is why I haven't self-promoted since I returned. But if other people set up polls and start discussions then why isn't an admin scolding them. I've been on the site for about two days, I haven't really had time to comment yet. Also why would you think Soxnews is going to start self-promoting, he's written one article and didn't link to anything.
  3. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 03:34 AM) Being in the internet business since 99, I get a kick out of these guys who wake up and finally realize they too can start a blog and put adsense around their junk posts hoping to make $$$. This is what we did back in 2003 when spamming Google was working so well for many of us. Now the game is to put up a crappy White Sox blog and link back to their site from SoxTalk, WSI, etc and hope to make some revenue from adsense clicks. Problem is you're beginning to realize that 1.49 a day isn't going to cut it, even while living in your parents basement. I'm sorry but I'm all for laying it on you for this one WhiteSoxNews, you deserve it. Add value and you will be embraced here. Self promote and you'll be crucified. Deal with it. I haven't even self-promoted my own site since I've returned and that isn't even my plan. When I did self-promote it, I certainly wasn't intending to make money from it. I didn't have adsense set up, I was just wanting some people to read some of the articles I had spent a long time writing.
  4. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 29, 2012 -> 08:54 PM) ` You don't participate in any discussion that you didn't start. When you join a site with the idea of increasing your own audience, I guess it breaches some sort of netiquette. Here's the thing, I wouldn't care if someone linked to their own blog and I also don't understand why others would care. The reason I don't comment in other discussions is for this reason, everyone starts arguing with each other and everyone walks on eggshells with every post they make. I mean I could understand such treatment if I were on this site as a Cubs fan, but we're all White Sox fans, why can't we just openly share ideas and thoughts? Also, what's wrong with polls? If Admins are so concerned about polls then they should just remove the feature. People have participated in my polls and they're a good indication of how people feel about certain topics. No one should have a problem with that.
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 29, 2012 -> 03:36 PM) How about contributing to threads more instead of continually posting polls all day. I'm sorry but this is getting a bit ridiculous. Anyone who posts on this site is just criticized. Not just me, but scroll through the threads and all people do is argue. You'd think some one would be allowed to post some articles and some polls on a forum website. It's not like my posts are only polls and no other content. I write things as well and try to start discussions. I mean isn't that the point of this site? Last year I reviewed your posting regulations and saw that you were allowed to link to other sites, but after linking to my White Sox blog, a different admin spoke to me with a friendly attitude and told me otherwise. I had not intended to break one of the regulations of this site and was sorry even though it hadn't been clearly stated in the rules and regulations. For awhile I was discouraged to go back on here, because some other members had made profane comments to me in the thread just because I had linked to my own site. Recently, I came back because I wanted to start discussions and share my opinions with other White Sox fans in a nice setting. Once again, more unconstructive comments by someone who is supposed to regulate the site to prevent unnecessary criticism between users.
  6. WILL ADAM DUNN CATCH MIGUEL CABRERA AND JOSH HAMILTON FOR THE MOST HOME RUNS THIS YEAR? Current Home Run Standings: 1. Josh Hamilton 43 2. Miguel Cabrera 42 3. Edwin Encarnacion 42 4. Ryan Braun 41 5. Adam Dunn 41 As Miguel Cabrera fights for the triple crown and the division, Adam Dunn is in a position to disrupt his ability to accomplish both of those feats. Sitting at only one home run behind Miguel Cabrera and only two behind Josh Hamilton, Adam Dunn is in contention of hitting the most home runs in the MLB after only hitting 11 last season. Comment below on who you think will hit the most home runs this year.
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 29, 2012 -> 07:45 AM) If you have to ask this question, you need to start watching more baseball. I merely asked the question to see what others had as opinions about it, not because I didn't know the answer. Personally, I believe it is a combination of both the pitching staff and the hitting performance in the past few weeks that has led to late-inning September losses for the team. Offensively we have been struggling during almost every inning of the game, but the real problem as far as pitching does not lie with-in our starters, but in our relievers and late inning bullpen. In a recent game we went into the ninth inning tied 3-3, and the WhiteSox reliever Bret Meyers gave up a solo shot to give the KC Royals a 4-3 lead. Our offense was unable to perform successfully during our last at bat of the game. Whether that loss in particular was a direct result of our pitching or hitting, there is no argument that the pitching aspect had an effect on the outcome, and inevitable losses for the WhiteSox recently.
  8. BREAKING DOWN CHRIS SALE AND JUSTIN VERLANDER: If you compare the division race to a poker game then it is certainly time to bring out the aces. Today both Chris Sale and Justin Verlander will take the mound in separate games. After pitching in today's games, they will most likely not start again for the remainder of the regular season, with the exception of the tiebreaker, in which both pitchers are slated to start. Some have also alluded to the idea that Verlander could possibly start on Wednesday on short rest, if the race reached a pivotal point. Thus the stage is set for the ultimate showdown of pitching performances to occur today. Ultimately, these starts will be the most imperative outings for both Sale and Verlander this season. So imperative that it is necessary to break it down. Pitcher Profile: Justin Verlander: 16-8, ERA 2.72, SO 231, BB 58. Chris Sale: 17-7, ERA 2.86, SO 185, BB 48. ERA- Earned Run Average. SO- Strike Outs. BB- Base On Balls. Analyzing the numbers: Differences: Chris Sale has a better record and Justin Verlander has a better ERA, but both of these upper hands are separated by a small number margin. Significant Differences: Justin Verlander has more strikeouts than Sale this year. (Indicates that hitters have a harder time reading Verlander's pitches) Chris Sale has less walks than Verlander this year. (Indicates that Sale has better control) Overall, the pitchers are both remarkably similar. They both have great command, which means that they both have the ability to properly pitch their arsenal of pitches, getting the correct spin and movement. They are both able to reach speeds between 95-100 mph. They also have the ability to control their pitches, or pitch them in the intended location. Match-Ups: Verlander will face the Minnesota Twins line-up (2.61 Batting Average) in Minnesota. Sale will face the Tampa Bay Rays line-up (2.40 Batting Average) at home. To conclude, the match-ups are also very similar and what it really comes down to is which one of them rises to occassion and is able to handle the playoff race pressure.
  9. SPORTS ANALYSTS OVERREACTED AFTER THURSDAY'S LOSS Sure, it wasn't the greatest position, but was it the end as everyone insisted? Undoubtedly there is a big difference between being two games back and one game back, much less three games back, which would have been the outcome had yesterday's two close games gone in Detroit's favor. It's all about getting hot at the end. After Thursday's game every analyst was ready to count out the White Sox. Yet, they weren't ready to count out Tampa Bay or the Angels, who had similar deficits. Was it an overreaction? I think so. Does it mean we are out of the woods? No, but Chris Sale can be our compass. If the White Sox tie Detroit for first tomorrow, then it simply proves the complex dynamic of a division race, and how quickly the outlooks change. For example, at two games out, all of the sports-related articles deemed Detroit a clear winner, and emphasized how difficult it would be for the White Sox to lessen the deficit. However, at one game out it is suddenly a closely contested race again. The reason for this switch is the quick drawing of conclusions that occurred on Thursday. The denial that the underdog could actually beat the favored team. Well, erase all of those fine line statements and call the AL Central what it really is, a division up for grabs.
  10. What part of the team is in a larger slump, the WhiteSox pitching staff, or their hitting offense. What are your thoughts?
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 04:35 PM) Serious question, not counting vs. Minnesota when was the Sox's last blowout victory? Have they had one in September? Did they have any in the last 2 weeks of August? I think there last blowout game was against the Yankees, in late August. They won 7-3.
  12. With Detroit win, the WhiteSox must pull one off tonight as well. What are your thoughts?
