We are over here with people seriously talking about building around Fedde, meanwhile this exists on planet earth.  When I talk about talent gap, this is exactly the type of stuff I am talking about.  THIS is what you want to find in the draft and trade processes to build around.  You are looking to give yourself every opportunities to back into talent like this, not a 31 year old who found the fountain of decency.

I mean I glad Fedde is having a resurgence, but if you want to squint and look at a guy like this in a real playoff rotation, you know one with World Series aspirations, where you do see him?  3rd?  4th?

What does any of this have to do with the return in an Erick Fedde trade

  2. This is basically the same thing the Sox did with ReyLo a few years ago. He wasn’t cutting it as a starter, and then improved a lot out of the bullpen. Hopefully Kopech will be the same way so they can trade him for something.

Yep. The only teams with actual 40 man crunches are teams like the Braves and Dodgers. Not the bottom feeding White Sox.

Exactly.  If Getz can’t cut a guy like Scholtens loose for a 24 year old lefty outfielder with good minor league numbers, he’s doing the GM thing wrong.

    100% agree.

There is a decent chance that some young guy the White Sox dump from their 40 man this year (Romy, Sosa, Colas, Lee etc.) goes on to be a quality player with some other team.

It might not count as a 40 man crunch but they've created something truly weird here, where they are absolutely overloaded with NRIs and they have a manager who already has indicated he would rather play a 40 year old NRI than a promising kid. Maybe it's a "voluntary roster crunch" or a "managerial roster crunch", because the manager wants the vets and the kids have to be dumped as a consequence.

I’m not even really referring to those guys. I’m more so referring the Tanner Banks, Sammy Peralta, Jesse Scholtens types. No one is going to be that devastated if those guys get claimed.

Romy Gonzalez got claimed. Teams take chances all the time on imperfect players if they think they can fix them.

And that’s fine. The White Sox still do not have a real crunch at the 40-man at the moment. They just don’t.

I don’t agree. It’s not that easy to navigate right now.

As far as clubs having the same valuations, yes. The QO is brutal though. Guys like Bellinger and Snell should’ve considered taking the QO if they wanted 7-10 year deals. Now that they have the QO attached, it makes a 1-2 year deal far less likely.

I mean come on. Nobody thought those guys would be unsigned as camp opened.

It’s very easy to navigate right now. The Sox have tons of guys they could cut who would likely clear waivers and in the event that they don’t, it’s not some devastating loss. They should absolutely be using this time to upgrade the 40-man when possible.

This is crazy. We need to see Gonzalez play this year before making any sort of declaration like this.

Smith-Njigba isn’t really a great fit as a LHH OF. Sox have a 40-man crunch already.

Again, Sox have a real 40-man crunch.

No they don’t. A real 40-man crunch implies they would lose someone of significance. This roster is trash and there are at least 10 guys they could cut today and very few people would care.

I keep getting a weird feeling about PIT.  There were rumors about them before.

    T. Johnson, Jones and Solometo = 49m

    Cease =42m

Tough to say no to a LHS that can stick at 2B, plus a RHP and LHP.

I’d be happy with that package I think.

It's Feb 7th for god's sake.  The absolute worst thing if Cease doesn't get traded will be everyone falling over themselves to be the first to diagnose an injury.  OH MY GOD HIS VELO IS DOWN .8675309 MPH!!!  i KNEW IT!!!! I SAID HE WAS GOING TO HURT!!!! HE'S HURT AND NOW HIS ARM IS GOING TO BE AMPUTATED!!!  OH THE HUMANITY!

This might be the first good post you’ve ever had on this forum.

Seattle is sending cash. DeSlafani offsets Polanco’s money, but Topa, their #4, and their best pitching prospect feels like a lot to me.

What, what? The pitching prospect the Mariners traded is not anywhere near the best.

Nah. BA has him behind Lazaro Montes who slots in right at 100.

Not going to pretend I know tons on the player, but I don't love the defensive concerns/conditioning I'm reading. Everything else sounds great though.

That is not an overly encouraging scouting report at all. No thanks.

Tinfoil hat theory: They posted it because they were trying to embarass Haber and his computer on the way out.

Willing to bet that the vast majority of fans on social media have no idea who was behind that pick.

I still don’t get why people are freaking out.  They will land Bellinger and possibly Chapman.

Even if they do land Bellinger they still aren’t really any better than they were last season.

They do need more and I don’t necessarily disagree with what you are saying but while both of the top guys are inexperienced, there is very little to say they are taking some sort of a step back.  In fact, GRod should be a lot better overall and Bradish has been excellent for 1.5 years, so there isn’t much in his stats that say you expect him to be worse.

I want a true #3 or better guy and one more legit BP arm.

The thing that concerns me most with Bradish and Rodriguez are their workloads. Both guys pitched a lot more innings in 2023 than they did in 2022. Not sure how that will impact them going forward. Might not be a factor at all, but who knows.

That’s why I think a guy like Cease fits them, you know he’s durable and will always take the ball so they can give other guys breaks if needed.
