Question for my fellow baseball minds: If it is to be believed that the Phillies have offered a contract or contracts to Machado. Is it bad or good for us that no terms whatsoever have been leaked?

We have never had players of this quality and age hit free agency. Many contenders are maxed out. This may be the only off season that ends with the likeliest scenario.

I am sure Jerry has always been involved but Rabbit seems to be suggesting that he is has taken the reigns. This would suggest to me that this is getting done.

Anyone with a subscription? Anything of note?

Well, let’s start a conversarion then. Do you think the Sox are only willing to go 7 because no one else is forcing their hand or because they are trying to get Manny on a discount?

Switch out Engels bat for an eventual Eloy call up and it looks a lot better than last year but still not very good.

I guess a glimmer of hope is what Mb13 (i think that’s his name) the D Day guy, gave us yesterday is that Reinsdorf is involved in the negotiations and yesterday he was at the inauguration. Maybe it gets done today.

What is the consensus on this guy? I know for a fact he has gotten stuff wrong BUT he has also broken some very specific Cubs and Sox news. Is he extremely lucky or does he have a source? He broke Wellington Castillo (including the length and ammount) and a Cubs trade (Hamels i think) with all the pieces.

This actually makes me happy. We knew they would eventually offer a contract. We also knew 7/200 is a joke. This just means the end is in sight. The Phillys offering a contract will make the Sox either put up or shut up.

Why? It doesn’t say he accepted or is expected to accept.

Who can guess the time tonight that another encouraging report comes out? And then the time we get crushed again ?

If they don’t land him, it perpetuates the idea that the Sox are a cheap franchise not willing to do what’s necessary to win. It goes against all this “change” they have been preaching.

100%. This bidding low and trying to sell free agents on the Sox doesn't work. It wont work until they are legit. They need to get with the times.

But claiming 7/200 to me would cause more problems. More teams to get involved and a bad taste in fan's mouths when they miss.

Bottom line for me is this: If the offer is 7/200 million and they refuse to move, they will not get Manny. Why not let fans think they offered 8/250? Bizarre to me and I don't see what they gain in the end. Lozano knows what they offered, why would this be Sox vs Lozano?
