Also from MLB.com,

Rockies: In separate interviews with the Post and MLB.com, O'Dowd rated the club's chances at signing Aurilia to play shortstop a long shot. The Post mentioned Deivi Cruz, Pokey Reese, Rey Sanchez and Jose Hernandez, who played for the Rockies in 2002 but was traded as his strikeouts mounted, as possibilities. O'Dowd acknowledged to MLB.com that he is exploring trade possibilities for a shortstop.

Royals: Kansas City appears to be closing in on the free agent signings of catcher Benito Santiago and outfielders Raul Mondesi and Matt Stairs. But as of Wednesday night, GM Allard Baird said no deal has crystallized. The Royals would prefer to wait until after Sunday to sign a free agent outside the organization because then they might not have to surrender draft picks as compensation. It appears negotiations with in-house free agents Rondell White and Brent Mayne have stalled, but the club is working to sign veteran reliever Jason Grimsley before Sunday's deadline.

Mariners: Cameron has been offered a one-year contract for about $4 million, a substantial pay cut from last season's $7 million. The Mariners must decide by midnight ET Sunday whether to offer Cameron salary arbitration. But it also could mean that Cameron accepts the arbitration offer and has his 2004 salary determined by a three-man arbiting board.

Rays: GM Chuck LaMar said he does not anticipate any more deals before the Winter Meetings. However, the Rays are having ongoing discussions about a number of free agents, mostly hitters. The Rays have an interest in outfielders Juan Gonzalez, Carl Everett, Jose Cruz and Reggie Sanders and first baseman-DH Brad Fullmer.
