Commish to get involved?

Featured Replies

It looks like the Bud is pushing for this deal to go through and he is trying to get the deal worked out here is the link Bud to get involved

he should.

if this trade happens, baseball wins, bud selig wins, fans win

if it doesn't happen, EVERYONE loses...bud selig should be gone.

I hope Selig steps in over the union. Anything to weaken the players union. I am sick and tired of them holding up stuff that needs to be done or fixed, while they see what they can get in exchange for it.

:fyou Players Association

MLBPA has little recourse to do other than what they did UNLESS they can redefine what they mean by making sure there is something 'of benefit to the player.' By 'something,' they right now are exclusively referring to money. Without knowing the details, it's clear Boston's proposal results in less guaranteed money for Rodriguez. If the players union was willing to see that the newly included player option out-clause is a real benefit to the player (ensuring he won't be stuck in a bad situation for 7 years without choice). Hell, getting out of Texas is a real benefit for that matter.

If A-Rod has agreed to this then what the hell business does the union have in it? His contract isn't with them! I hate unions, especially the MLBPA! :fyou

Not quite what I was referring to, but that's....OK.

It's not quite correct to say that ARoD has agreed to this being done outside the Union rules. I'm no fan of MLBPA but let's get the facts right. According to ESPN, ARod has said the following...

"In the spirit of cooperation, I advised the Red Sox I am willing to restructure my contract, but only within the guidelines prescribed by union officials," Rodriguez said Thursday in a statement he read to The Associated Press. "I recognize the principle involved, and fully support the need to protect the interests of my fellow players.

"If my transfer to the Red Sox is to occur, it must be done with consideration of the interests of all major league players, not just one. Any statements by club officials suggesting my position is different than stated is inaccurate and unfortunate."
